Changes coming for some Medicare Advantage health care plan offerings
Oct 31, 2024
Anyone out there who has a Medicare Advantage health care plan may see some
changes to their plans in the new year. Some insurance carriers announcing
they're leaving or limiting their participation in the market due to
rising health care costs. Our own Amani Fleming is in Windom tonight to
explain Amani.
Well, john, right now there are currently 44,000 seniors in our state
that could be impacted by this. And experts tonight tell me that all of
this is happening because some companies just can't keep up with those
rising health care costs. Now, we do want to break down exactly what this
could mean for you. Starting January 1st of 2025, Anthem, Martins Point,
United Health Care and WellSense will start offering M. A. Plans without any
changes, so no changes there. Edna will be reducing its product offerings and
availability. Harvard Pilgrim and WellCare will no longer be offering any
Medicare Advantage plans in the new year, and Humana will keep some of its
Medicare Advantage offerings but reduce availability in some areas. So
essentially, these companies are either getting out of the Medicare Advantage
market altogether, or they're just scaling back on the number of plans
they're offering.
Now, seniors should be aware that just because they may get a letter or a
phone call from their Medicare Advantage carrier, that does not mean
that that carrier is getting out of the market altogether. It just might mean
that they need to choose a different plan.
And so, just to reiterate here, any seniors currently enrolled in a Medicare
Advantage plan that's set to be completely discontinued should go ahead
and pick a new one if they want their coverage to continue. DJ says,
otherwise, you'll automatically be enrolled in the original Medicare plan,
and that may not be the best coverage for you. We're live in Wyndham tonight.
