Hey, Lou Mosca, Chief Operating Officer of American Management Services and welcome,
welcome, welcome to this edition of Straight Talk. Again, Jonathan put something in front
of me. It's an Inc. article that's titled, Six Workplace Style Myths. Is that what it's titled?
Six Workplace Style Myths. I'm going to read you what they are and then I'm going to tell
you what I think overall. One is that work should be all about the business, nothing personal.
Two should be long work hours provide more productivity. Three should be money is the
sole motivator. Four is most folks do not work hard enough. Fifth is multiple work styles in
your work environment is not productive. And the sixth is that if someone is going to win,
then someone has to lose. Okay, so here's what I think. I think I probably agree with all of
them when I was younger and I still agree with some of them. All right. But overall,
here's what I believe. Your work environment should be one where people get it. You have a
plan so everyone's on the same page. We're all rowing in the same direction. We're all doing
what we need to do to be productive. But people need to enjoy where they work and whether that's
silly stuff like a ping pong table or whatever else, some of the other crazy things people do
or break times or whatever it is. But people need to enjoy the environment that they're in.
So if you want them to be more productive, it's not about whipping to putting 10 more hours a day.
It's about providing an incentive and training and a tool and motivation to make people want to do
more. So to me, I think I found I follow this philosophy for at least the last 10 or 15 years.
If you really love what you do and you work real hard at what you do, then success will come and
then the money will follow. That's what I believe. So for your employees, you want them to feel part
of what's going on, to feel like they're invested in what's going on today, tomorrow, next month,
next year. Then you want to teach them. You want to communicate with them. You want to work with
them. You want to mentor them. You want to sit side by side with them. You want to have lunch
with them. You want to take them out for a drink after hours. It's okay to blur lines a little bit,
as long as we all know where we're trying to go. So then you create opportunity, you train,
you teach, you put your arm around, and I'm telling you great things will happen and the
money will follow. I hope that helps. I love doing these straight talk videos.
I got to go and answer a phone. Have a great day.
