Tell me what we're doing.
I'm going underground Alex.
We're going underground.
Okay so this is going to be one of the most craziest videos and unique videos
oh my days I've ever done.
Oh I just don't know where I'm going.
It's just that dude.
I don't know if it's going to be repeated.
As soon as you clip anything the crash is never-ending because there's
wall everywhere.
Oh left there, arrows, oh steep chute.
I say that because this is a once in a lifetime thing.
And you know if you don't overcook it Alex it's like...
We're going riding underground in a downhill mountain bike trail.
Oh what?
500 meters under the ground in some abandoned lead mines.
The rope to climb up there.
This is gnarly, this is scary.
I just hope my battery lasts.
I don't like small spaces.
I literally don't think I can fit through that.
I'm claustrophobic.
My seat is as low as possible and I'm still trying to duck.
I'm just freaked out by it.
I have no idea what to expect.
It's so strange.
Yeah you just went underneath yourself on the track.
We're at the bottom now.
We're going getting head torches strapped to our helmets.
Got a torch on there.
And that's it as much as I know.
Cheville torch, look at that.
Incredibly balanced, that is very impressive isn't it?
So we're gonna sign in now, sign our lives away.
Right that's where we're going.
See I'm the one in red.
Oh is this you?
Yeah viral jersey.
Viral jersey.
This is Ollie.
You will just sign the papers down.
Nice knowing you mate.
Signing away, never to be seen again.
This means if I leave you inside.
Signature.
All your fortune belongs to me, no mortgages, no debts and no wives.
Thank you very much.
This is also a timing chip which means we're doing time runs in a mine.
Tell me about this, the race.
I don't know much about it yet Alex.
Other than not many people have ridden this trail now we have to race down it.
So not only are we going riding these mines, we're doing a race inside it
which has never ever been done.
I've got a timing chip on my wrist, chip activated,
race on and we're doing a timed run or multiple time runs in this mine.
So that means going really fast.
In the dark.
I can't even see where I'm going.
Oh my god.
On your own.
I don't remember any of this.
With a torch in your head.
The torch keeps falling down.
500 meters underground.
You excited?
I've got this mix of being scared, like scared and excited.
Yeah definitely yeah.
I think that's a good thing, I think you're gonna really love it.
I never know if the clips really get across how insane this actually is.
Let's start.
We're walking in.
Wow there's like moths or flies trying to get my light.
Baby dragons are they?
From now on we are doing everything together, okay?
Meaning if you need to stop for a second you shall stop,
everybody shall stop till the word reaches to me and we do things together.
There are more than 1000 kilometers of tunnels here in the mine so it's pretty easy to get lost.
Are they dynamite things?
Yes.
Dynamite.
They blow the tunnels up.
So they dug this by hand and with dynamite.
So now we're doing two and a half kilometers
into the mine all flat before we get to the start of the track.
Yeah good thing to do.
Wow.
How many times have you been here then Oli?
I've been here a long time because I came in before this trail was built
and I kind of enjoyed to be a bit of adventure before it was even here
and then we did the promotional video which is a whole week underground.
A whole week underground?
Yeah so this is all like daily commute.
Now I leave you inside.
I'll show you something about the past, the present and possible future.
Levels in the mine are counted opposite as in buildings meaning the 20th is the lowest
and the first ones are the highest.
Today we start at level zero and we are riding at level zero at 780 meters of height
and we are riding down to level four at 640 meters of height.
So we've been riding now for like 20 minutes straight in
just flat going deeper and deeper into the mine to the start of the trail
and look how crazy this is.
So into the black hole trail into the black story behind the adventure.
Did you see the big drop in it?
Did you check it Alex?
What?
Yes.
Wild.
So walking down having a look at it.
Come closer boys.
Just be careful do not step to the edge that you don't put the sand to the trail
because then it's a super slippery one.
Oh my god.
Oh it's so low.
Hesitant to proceed.
Wild.
I'm like disorientated.
It's so strange.
Yeah you just went underneath yourself on the track.
Wow.
What on earth?
When we say that our mountains are drilled through like Swiss cheese that we are not lying.
We're ready.
Yeah.
Ready dude.
Oh it's sandy.
God.
Interestingly you can't sprint out of the saddle you'll hit your head.
Yeah.
Super low.
I'm like ducking right now to avoid my head hitting the ceiling.
Literally crouched down on my bike.
I wish I was like five foot nothing.
Yeah.
Could stand up and sprint.
Oh this is a big chamber.
Wild.
In there.
So how do you like it?
And this is now the sign for the race for later on for the crack.
And you know if you overcook it Alex it's like nothing moves it's just.
Your head moves.
Yeah.
Oh it doesn't move.
Wild.
So you've got braking here and then you've got another one.
Oh what?
Wow.
You can you can just continue walking it down.
Can you modulate your speed pretty good down there?
There's a lot of grip but.
Holy hell.
Yeah it's just it's just that dude.
No I'm more worried about the yeah I'm worried about my head hitting.
Yeah it's like as soon as you clip anything the crash is never-ending because there's
wall everywhere above you.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
You can see it's got an exit to the right.
I think it's worth looking at though.
Yeah go to see at the bottom and here you have a right right corner.
Go all the way down to check it out.
It's so low.
Tight here.
It's also quite a compression okay.
Can you modulate your speed all right on this?
Yes.
You can go super slow.
You can go super slow?
At least at the beginning super slow.
Okay.
What is this?
A rope to climb up.
You're hoping?
Yeah boy.
Nice.
Literally don't want to ride that bit.
This is really low.
I'm actually going to be real humble here and I'm going to walk down this first bit.
Like completely freaked out.
I'm just freaked out by it.
Like I don't even know how to describe how how weird I feel.
Like almost vertigo.
I've never.
Yeah the problem is once you're there there's no way back.
Because if you wanted to go off the bike it's simply very very low.
So that's the problem on this one.
It's not often I would choose to walk down something but f**k.
Hold it and grab with your left arm.
Grab the rope and hold it by the frame with the right arm.
Yeah.
Now just walk on the side and give me the front.
When we did this one the first time.
Here at the bottom it was 30 centimeter higher drop.
Here.
And there was sand here around.
So it actually surfed around the corner.
That was f**ked up yeah.
Wild.
Thanks.
And this bit does it go to the left where?
No left.
So it goes nicely down and then the right right corner.
This one has a lot of grip.
Slow.
So you can really go slow all the way down if you want.
It has a lot of grip and it's not so so super hard.
Yeah.
That first thing literally weirded me the f**k out.
Yeah it's so um.
I have like vertigo looking at it.
I couldn't.
But it's steep in daylight.
There's no reference point.
I couldn't I couldn't picture myself ducking under that last bit at all.
It's actually hard to get under it.
Yeah I think.
How the hell do you get onto that ladder?
Good.
You hold it?
Yeah I've got it.
Now let's go same tempo nice and easy.
Let's go.
Wild.
All good?
Yeah wild.
Here the time resets.
Okay.
For the race.
Yeah.
So here is no timing.
Then here you have now a left corner small drop and a right corner.
Be careful it's loose ground and then wait 10 meters in.
Sure.
So creepy.
You just turn the lights off?
Yeah.
Oh my days.
Do it.
Right hang on one sec.
It's really dark.
Let me turn mine off.
Oh.
Hold it.
Oh my god.
That is eerie.
Isn't it?
No light whatsoever.
Unusable footage.
Yeah man.
Yeah John boy.
Idiot.
Yo.
Yeah dude.
I am.
Nice.
It's cool isn't it?
So there is a rule in the mind.
If you want to ride it down do not look up first.
42 degree angle going down.
42 degrees.
Lights off.
Turn off the lights.
GoPro will be seen.
Oh yeah that's true.
So here actually if there would be no GoPro and the green lights on my bike
there is actually no source of light.
So it's actually pitch black.
Okay.
So you can't see anything.
So the rule in the mind if your light is gone is sit down and wait.
Okay.
Now imagine uh miners uh they had an eight hour shifts later on.
And if they were out of the light imagine after two hours they had to wait for around
six hours for somebody to pick them up.
And a lot of legends came out.
One of the legends is a legend about three brothers.
They were working in mine for like 20-25 years so they know the mine has their own pockets.
At least they thought so.
And once the gust of wind blew their lights off and when they started emptying the pockets
they saw there were no more diamonds in their pockets but only lead in their pockets.
And since then our mine doesn't have diamonds anymore but only lead in our mines.
So...
God that story is so...
It's so ridiculous.
You really got to see deep for this last section.
A lot of water in here.
Look at that trailer open and ready at the end.
Ride straight into it.
There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Complete.
Here is the light at the end of this tunnel.
While are we waiting to race?
The temperature change.
It's like really warm now.
Chip activated.
Race on.
Going up for another run now.
Just done the first scouting lap.
That was wild.
Never ever have I ridden a downhill trail in a mine.
We're going back up for another run.
We're going to be riding this alone.
So that run will be with everyone.
Now the challenge becomes riding it on your own which is going to be a whole different ball game
and the level of complexity probably will go up a few steps.
Maybe to the boss level.
Especially because we've got these timing chips on.
It still feels pretty alien like by the end.
I think this is more that you get used to this environment.
It's more than the actual trail.
Because this trail okay despite the crack and stuff it's hard but at least everything else.
If you put your stuff outside 50% of people will ride it.
I'm ready.
Full speed in the mines.
Yeah I'm well excited to get the ladder down there.
I'm nearly ready to go.
Good luck dog.
Let's wait another minute.
Big man.
Yes dog thanks.
Look forward to seeing you down there dog.
Let's go.
We good?
Yeah.
Let's go.
Oh he's off.
He's off.
Let's go Jono.
Send it Alex.
Go.
Who now?
Oh he's away.
Into the underground he goes.
All right this is going to be freaking wild.
Enjoy.
I'll try.
Oh wow this is weird riding on your own.
I don't remember any of this.
I can't even see where I'm going.
I can't even see a thing.
Oh left there.
Arrows.
Oh steep chute.
Duck, duck, duck.
I'm on the right track.
My seat is as low as possible and I'm still trying to duck and peddling.
What a wild experience.
Arrow turn right.
Oh my god.
Nobody is going to see me.
Uphill.
Bridge.
I don't remember any of this.
This is insane.
What in god's name am I doing?
My neck is killing.
Oh arrow.
Oh drop.
Sharp right.
Down we go.
Remember this.
My eyes.
Okay I remember this bit.
Steep bit.
Around that.
Right off down here.
Oh big 180 turn.
That's all right.
My torch keeps falling down.
Many torch companies want to sponsor me.
I'll happily come and do this again.
And I can see where I'm going.
Right here.
Oh steep bit.
Crap.
All right I'm not riding this bit.
I'm not riding this.
I'm going to ride it.
This is so weird man.
The first time for me also that I'm doing without the guest.
I'm like totally different.
Then I don't have to stop.
I can just go.
I'm really dis...
I'm like disorientated.
Did you get scared that you got lost now?
No I'm just...
Riding underground like this is so weird for me.
I...
Especially now that the tunnel is moving so fast.
Oh I just don't know where I'm going.
That and the ceilings.
Everything about it I find quite difficult.
Maybe with another run or two I could know where to go.
Trying to race after you've done it once is not a good idea.
Okay.
And now we go down here.
Yeah.
That's quite sketch.
Yeah thanks.
How was it?
That's just strange man.
So strange.
Not fun to race when you've done it once.
Fuck.
Really fun.
Just like...
Just weird.
Just so different to anything I've ever done.
I can't even explain it.
I'm just weirded out by it.
Trying to go fast and then not knowing where I'm going or...
Where's the...
On the right side you have one foot.
A little bit more down where you are now.
I don't remember this bit.
Are we at the bottom now?
One, two...
Like a wide...
Yeah a wide chute down.
Okay.
I'll be fine.
That's fun.
Yeah.
Tell me I'm stone dead last.
Surely.
Surely I won the race backwards.
So we just did a race run.
I'm by no means competitive.
Weirdest bit of bike cycling I've ever done.
Felt inconsistent.
Out my depth.
Weirded out.
It's so strange.
Super unique though.
To think that you are 500 meters underground.
On your own.
With one torch on.
And there's thousands of kilometers of tunnels in there.
We've done time to practice.
Now it's time to race.
Yeah that was good.
Thanks dog.
Just look ahead.
Yeah boy.
Enjoy.
Have a good one.
Enjoy.
Have a good one boys.
Yeah boy.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Ready?
Yeah ready, ready, ready.
First shreddies.
First echo.
Yes dude.
Oh they're off.
All mud experience.
They were super fast.
Yeah yeah.
Sprinting all day.
All the game he can't breathe.
Enjoy.
Enjoy, see you.
Alright.
It's just being able to see ahead.
Oh this thing.
Wild.
I can't remember any of this.
Hear the boys screaming.
Alright steep section.
My head is so close to them.
Obviously.
Eyes are watering.
I'm too big for cave racing.
Down.
Okay steep section.
You need narrow bars.
You need to be about four foot tall.
And have the leg power of Chris Hoy.
What is this?
This is so incredible.
I just heard my battery last.
It was flashing red before I took this one.
Imagine if it ran out.
In this cave.
I don't want to imagine that.
And then miss that one.
Okay.
I literally don't think I can fit through that.
Okay I will continue.
Can I get clipped in?
Oh that's so cool.
Oh god.
Missing chest.
Yeah Alex.
Yeah.
How was that?
That was better than the last one.
Yeah?
Way better.
Are you like climatizing?
Climatizing yeah.
Still gnarly.
I didn't feel like complete crap.
I still overshot a few of the flat corners.
I'll tell you what.
It's better.
It's way better following you.
It's just like.
I think just having you there was good for me as well.
Yeah and like I feel like I gave off a bit of light for you as well.
Follow you two down this last bit.
Definitely.
Good bit.
No no no.
I don't think it's.
I just don't like the risk too much.
No it's not a one world risk.
It's not a sensible risk.
Yeah.
Hey I can't believe the.
There's an awful drop.
The other end.
Edge of this ladder.
More danger than I even realized.
What that?
Oh that's great fun.
It was better that time.
Yeah.
I appreciated that more than the first one.
I was not liking it.
I just I didn't feel like I was even rolling down the flat bits on the first run.
The second one.
It's so much better with Jonno in front like.
We're talking and stuff.
It was.
It was really difficult to talk wasn't it?
Yeah.
Get a rope.
Thank you.
I'm sad my GoPro fell off.
It fell off?
Yeah I've got it though.
Oh what?
Just sticking.
Just off the crack.
Love you all.
Sorry sorry sorry.
Sorry Alex.
I was way too close.
Yeah boy.
Mate that was amazing.
That was dope.
Dude that was quite something.
That's wild.
Unreal.
Well played Alex.
I went so close at the start there.
Yeah.
Mate it's wicked that.
Yeah you know it's coming up.
You can't.
You still can't see it can you?
And you can't really get rid of speed at that point.
No.
You can't.
I think what it is.
I can't quite see full 3D in the line.
You know what I mean?
Because it always comes to shock.
The compression.
I lose my smell.
Fuck yeah.
Nice one Jonno.
That was ridiculous wasn't it?
So good.
High five for the beard.
Yes Alex.
That was the business.
All right.
As you can see from the guys reactions.
I'm kind of speechless to be honest here.
One of the most surreal things I've ever ever done.
Nothing ever comes close to that.
You riding 500 meters underground and it's an actual trail.
I honestly thought when they said yeah we're gonna go ride some underground trails.
I was like oh yeah it'll just be a basic little flow trail underground.
This is an actual full-on track.
Like I wouldn't even say it's the faint-hearted.
But it's something every mountain biker should do at least once.
So if you are keen to do something out of the ordinary.
Something that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
I will put the description.
I will put in the description links to go check out mountain bike nomad.
And come and check out the black hole trail in Slovenia.
You will not be disappointed.
Bucket list item for every mountain biker.
Hope you enjoy this one.
Let me know in the comments below what you think.
I'll see you in the next one.
