What is going on?
Today I've got the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1.
All new for this year.
It's the cheapest way to get a Camaro.
It's more muscle for the money and we're going to go through a full review and test drive
coming right up.
Before we take a look at this 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1, I want to give a big thank you
and shout out to my friends at Britain Chevrolet in Greenville, Texas.
If you're in the DFW area, please be sure to check them out or check them out online.
You'll find their information down below.
So the big news with this 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 is that it has the 6.2 liter V8.
You don't have to get the SS in order to get the power that you want.
You still got the 6.2 liter V8, direct injected, 455 horsepower, 455 pound feet of torque that
comes out of the mid 4000 range.
The Tremec six speed manual transmission is standard with automatic rev matching, but
you can get a 10 speed automatic transmission for about a $1,600 upgrade.
One reason you may want to go with that automatic transmission is that it's actually faster
zero to 60.
So the manual is going to be 4.3 seconds and the automatic is going to be 4.0 seconds.
In case you're wondering for miles per gallon, the manual is 16 city, 26 highway, and the
10 speed is 16 city, 27 highway, which also has cylinder deactivation.
The 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 starts at just a hair under $35,000.
So you can get this for less than the SS now for this 2020 model.
I'm going to show you everything that you get here on the outside.
This is not an LT, like a one LT.
This is the LT1, which is above those LT models and just below the SS models, technically
the same powertrain as the SS models.
So up front we get LED daytime running lights and LED projector headlights.
It's got the same front end styling as the LT models and not the SS models.
And as you know, the SS for 2020 was actually revised a little bit with its styling.
So you get a repositioned bow tie and a body color bar running across the grill instead
of the similar look that we have on this model.
We have the LT1 badge as well, and this is the Riverside blue metallic.
And this looks really good on this car.
I really like the way it looks.
In fact, this has some special rims.
You'll have 20 inch rims standard, but we have the optional carbon flash painted rims
and you'll get 245 40 series tires on all four with four piston Brembos in the front
instead of Brembos in the back like the SS and wider tires in the back like the SS.
So just one difference between that and the SS, we don't have magnetic ride control available.
That's only on the SS and one LE, but you still get the same performance suspension
on those on those other SS models without magnetic ride control.
We also get a limited slip differential for optimum traction.
Of course, you still have that same styling coming around the back.
We have a dual outlet exhaust instead of the four tip exhaust that we see on some other
SS models.
And this is the normal exhaust instead of the dual mode available on upper trims.
Let's take a look at that exhaust.
Now, we all know that the cargo area for the Camaro and all these sports coupes are pretty
small, but there's a little button up under there.
I'll show you what it looks like with a carry on suitcase, and it kind of lifts itself.
It's got some nice hydraulics that don't actually get in the way.
So back here in the coupe, we've got nine cubic feet.
You will lose about two cubic feet with the convertible.
You know, it is small, but it is still somewhat functional.
So I just threw my carry on in there and there's still some room for some more, but that's
what you get with the Camaro.
Even though this is the base V8, the LT1 Camaro, you still get a smart key system and remote
start.
So all you got to do is push that button to lock it or unlock it if you have the key with
you.
And of course, remote start.
Zoom, zoom.
Now hopping into the front seats of this 2020 Camaro LT1, we've got eight-way power cloth
seats.
The one thing that seems to be missing is lumbar support, but overall, I'm pretty comfortable
in these seats with the LT1 being the base V8.
We don't have heated seats or ventilated seats.
You'd want to move to the SS if that's what you're looking for.
The passenger seat is six-way power, and we just have these stock seats, but you can still
get the Recaro Performance sport seats in here if you want to.
The steering wheel is a flat bottom steering wheel.
It is leather wrapped with some nice grips on it, and it is manual adjustable tilt and
telescoping, and I'm 5'9".
I've got this seat as low as it goes, and I've got still a pretty good amount of space
above my head.
We don't have a moonroof in here, so you definitely want to test this out for yourself.
These seats are conforming.
They still are a sporty seat.
They grip me around the sides, around the thighs, and they seem to be a pretty good
seat for this kind of car.
Now, when you hop into the back seat, that is definitely for smaller people or children.
It's pretty much useless for adults.
There's two spots back there.
There's a little storage cubby.
It's just lacking in legroom, but at least you have that option, and you can fold those
seats down.
Now, let's take a quick look at the interior of the Camaro.
Everything is pretty simple.
You've got a nice soft padded armrest, a soft area for your forearm right there, kind of
this unique trim piece running down here, and a little storage cubby right over there.
Automatic windows, nice metal door handle.
We have push-button start, and like I said, we have a leather-wrapped steering wheel that
is flat bottom, so this is one for ergonomics so that you have a little more room.
You can pull the steering wheel down.
It's got that sporty look.
You've got these nice sport grips on there.
All the basic radio controls you would expect.
You even have paddle shifters on here because we have the automatic transmission.
Right up front, we get a couple big gauges on the sides, the regular gauges up above,
and then the smaller information display here.
If you want to get a larger information display, I believe you can get an 8-inch on those upper
trims.
You can even get a head-up display, but this is what we get on the base V8.
It still gives you all the information that you need, just like you've seen on some other
GM products, pretty much the exact same information here.
It's kind of cool that you still get a performance timer if you want with that.
You also get a lap timer, and you get the G-forces right here, so that's pretty cool
if you kind of want to monitor that and just see exactly how fast you're moving.
Now, one thing that the Camaro isn't known for is visibility, and as you can see right
there, we have kind of a small front window, but sitting right here, I can see everything
that I need to see.
This pillar's not that big.
It is large, but if you adjust your mirrors properly, you can still have some pretty decent
visibility.
So, of course, it's not going to be great, but that's what you get with these sport
coupes.
There's the back pillar, so that is the worst spot right back there.
You can see a little bit out the back.
I'll show you the backup camera in a little bit.
Just be sure to adjust your mirrors to accommodate.
And we have the 7-inch touchscreen right here.
I've got no trouble with GMs with their systems on here.
Everything seems to be fairly responsive.
I haven't really had any troubles with it.
I've had more time with some of the other vehicles.
We have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The thing with this is we get six speakers and no Bose option available like the SS models,
but we still can have SiriusXM and Bluetooth, of course.
Otherwise, you can get the 8-inch screen on upper trims.
Still get some physical controls right there and the volume knob.
Single zone climate control with the same unique circular dials that can be aimed away
from the gear shifter if you've got that manual transmission so your hand isn't going to freeze.
You can get dual zone if you move up in trims, of course, but this is the base V8.
Just remember that.
Got traction control.
You can turn that off.
We've got our mode to select between touring mode and sport mode, snow and ice.
We don't have the dual, I can't remember what it's called,
but the exhaust where you've got the different modes.
The last one that I had, we had a track mode as well.
We've got a 12-volt power outlet and we've got one larger bottle holder and one smaller
bottle holder.
So my big bottle fits in that one.
We've got this padded armrest with a nice material on it.
Not super squishy, but you've got an armrest.
And then we've got a little cubby space right in here with an insert and a couple USBs.
And then right behind you is another little storage bin for you or your backseat passengers.
Now shifting into reverse, here is our backup camera.
Nice long lines and dynamic lines as well.
Thank you so much for sticking around for the test drive.
I know that a lot of you, this is probably what you want to see.
I have driven a Camaro before, so I do have a longer,
kind of more detailed video of the Camaro.
If you want to check that out, I'll put the link down below.
Now I want to get this out of the way, since this is a dealership car,
just know this is not going to be like a track test or anything like that.
I've got to respect it.
And a huge thank you to Britain Chevrolet and Cadillac for loaning this to me to show you guys.
Starting off, we are in touring mode and first impressions, just right off the bat,
you just feel the power.
You feel the vibration of this car.
It just, you feel like you're in a spaceship in a way.
And it's really awesome that Chevrolet is offering this powertrain at this price point.
In touring mode, the weight of the steering is a little easier,
so definitely could be something easy to live with.
Now, a lot of people's concern with the Camaro is the visibility,
but really, it's not that big of a deal.
It's bad, but you've got your mirrors, you've got your backup camera, and you can make it work.
Now we're in touring, just a little bit of throttle down,
and you still get some nice exhaust sound.
You can just kind of, you can just hear that back there.
We'll test the paddle shifters out in a little bit.
Now, this isn't the most important thing or the thing that most of you are going to care about,
but the ride comfort in the Camaro, of course, is stiff and it has to be stiff.
If you have a performance suspension, it's going to pay off with your handling.
Now, that is the biggest thing.
It's not harsh by any means, but it's just a stiffer ride,
which, of course, it's going to be.
You've got to suspect that, and with the wheels that we have, too.
But these wheels look great.
20-inch, I think it's called carbon flash finish on them.
It's really nice.
Now, I'm going to go ahead and put it in sport mode, and it automatically downshifted.
That's just partial throttle, too.
It's been kind of sprinkling off and on.
I've been trying to hide that.
It's been super windy, so I apologize if that made its way to the mic.
Now, we're still in sport mode.
Nice weight of the steering.
Still holding those RPMs.
You can have so much fun and get into so much trouble with this car.
And like I was saying earlier, it just feels powerful right up underneath your butt.
There is no joke about it.
Now, we're in sport mode.
We're going about 25.
Going to get on it some.
It'll put a smile on your face, that's for sure.
Let's obey the laws.
Now, the transmission is quick.
I mean, this is a 10-speed.
Now, when you've got the 6-speed, it's all up to how you shift.
But you do get that Tremec 6-speed, which is well-known.
And comment below what you think of the manual.
And which transmission would you go with?
Let's go ahead and throw it into the plus and minus for the paddle shifters.
We're in 9th gear right now.
Got it downshift a little bit.
5th gear, 4th gear, 3rd gear.
Those are quick.
Those are very quick, especially for the price.
Now, everything that I'm talking about is based off of this price point.
Obviously, you can talk about vehicles that are a lot more expensive,
performance-oriented type vehicles.
But this, for the mid-$30,000 range coming in, you can't complain with this.
Now, if you want to see the ZL1, I have a video on that as well, from Britain Chevrolet as well.
So be sure to check that out too.
Now, obviously, I don't have the roads to show you how this handles.
But it's not just a straight-line beast.
It does handle well.
The steering has some nice feedback and feeling to it.
It is performance.
It's a performance suspension.
So it's going to do great.
4-piston.
We don't have Brembos in the back.
So if braking is something that is really important to you, of course, you can change those.
Or you can go for the SS models for a couple grand more and get Brembos in the back.
Got it back in the paddle shifters.
Got some rev matching.
Very nice.
Very well done.
Now, I probably personally wouldn't use the paddles a whole lot.
But you definitely could for some extra fun.
If Chevrolet North America is going to loan me a Camaro, I could possibly show you a little
more of what this does.
Get a couple different unique angles and some of the nice shots that I like to do.
But for now, that's what we get for performance with a dealership car.
So that is going to be a wrap on this 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1.
All new for this 2020 model is the LT1 that puts itself right below the SS.
And you get this V8 powertrain.
6-speed Tremec or 10-speed automatic.
You can just get the power and you get more muscle for the money.
Thank you so much for watching.
