Hey guys, welcome to Gardening Upbeat and in today's video we're going to see how
to get more flowers on Zerbera Daisy.
Zerbera is one of the best flowering plants which is a perennial and it also blooms throughout
the whole year.
There are only 5 simple steps to get more flowers and let's take a look at the procedure
Step by step.
This is the plant that I'm going to transform today.
Although it is blooming, the health of the plant does not look good.
We can't expect more flowers on a plant like this.
So let's fix everything.
Step number one, removing dried leaves, yellow leaves and the other leaves on which I can
see some spots.
Also going to die the flowers which are already spent.
It was about to get dark and sorry for recording in somewhat low light.
Done and now the plant looks much cleaner.
Step number two, I'm going to re-pot the plant and for the pot selected one 10 inches
Deeper and 10 inches wider pot.
If your plant is smaller, you don't need to use a bigger pot and you can use either 6 inches or
8 inch pot.
Step number three is very important.
We need a very good potting soil mix and here's how I'm doing.
50% normal garden soil, 30% permacompost and 20% sand.
Please note Zerbera needs extremely well drained soil and my normal garden soil is
It's a little sandy.
If your soil is not sandy, please increase the percentage of sand in the potting
soil mix.
Instead of sand, we can also use perlite.
While replanting, please make sure not to bury the crown or else the plant may start rotting
at the crown and eventually it would die.
Step number four, watering thoroughly.
Next I would keep the pot under indirect sunlight for the next 2 to 3 days and then I
would provide a whole day of sunlight.
To get more flowers, we need to apply some important elements and I would discuss about
It's on step number five.
This is after 40 days and we can see that the plant has already transformed quite nicely.
Here comes the fifth important step and it's about fertilizers.
We only need three components for a much better flowering.
The first two components will provide the essential nutrients to our plants and
Those are fish amino acids and pansargeta.
Those are 7 to 10 ml of fish amino acid and 20 ml of pansargeta in 1 liter of water.
These two are 100% organic and we can apply once every 15 to 20 days.
Here I'm applying the same thing and applied almost 70% of 1 liter.
The third component is flower booster.
Basically it contains potassium humate and it helps in growing flowers.
The dose is 2 ml in 1 litre of water and we can apply once every 25 to 30 days.
If your plant is new, please use only 1 gram in 1 liter of water.
Let's take a look at the update.
This is an update after 53 days and we can see that the plant is blooming quite well.
As of now the temperature in my place is around 36 to 38 degrees Celsius and we can see that
My plant is blooming well.
In my place Zerbera stops blooming from somewhere around July to September.
It's because that time it's too hot and humidity also gets increased.
Usually the relative humidity of my place is around 82% although it varies from 76% during
summer to 88% during the monsoon.
Sharing all the details with you so you can compare with your environment.
Let's apply potassium humate today and I'm applying this for the second time.
22 days ago I applied once already.
Like the liquid nutrients I've applied almost 70% of 1 liter.
Other than these things for sunlight please note more is always better.
Although they bloom in partial sunlight for me all day sunlight works really well.
But of course I would try to protect the plant from the noon or afternoon sunlight from May
to September.
Since my plant is getting sunlight all day, I also water daily.
But in other cases we can let the top soil dry out before watering.
So far no pest attacks on my plant.
But sometimes you may find pest attacks on your plants like mealybugs, aphids etc.
Recently I uploaded a video about taking care of pest on hibiscus.
Although it was done on hibiscus the same thing can be followed for Zerbera too.
