Jasmine Paolini vs. Elena Rybakina | 2024 WTA Finals Riyadh Group Stage | Match Highlights

Take the ball out of Paolini's hands. Time on that forehand and made it count. Love that movement on the ball from Paolini. It's almost like a training exercise. Attack versus defense and it's attack that eventually wins. Made that slight adjustment herself, just noticing that she's quick enough to take this serve earlier. She didn't do enough on the approach there though and get stung. Defensive, she's pounced. Oh, that's some shot on the run from Reback in it. Might have just helped Paolini, but what an adjustment from the Italian. Not done yet, though, in this first set. What a point to finish. As Jasmine Paolini finds a way to get over the line in the opening set. Had to dig in there. It's the Italian who takes the opener on the tiebreak after an hour and four minutes. Getting herself for getting her body underneath her, getting such good balance to be able to handle the pace of a Bacchina. It's a very good hold from Reback in it. Just when you think you're there ready to receive it, it still has a bit more kick and bite of the surface. One of the best points the Italian has played. Simplifying the sport, just going side to side. Oh, well, guess the right way once, but couldn't keep it up, Paolini. Has that found a baseline? It has. That was a slightly safe approach and you just cannot do that against a player of the quality. All started with the return. You love the Lecia. And then moves past the point of contact and then recovers. How to apply herself on that surface that historically she struggled on. First time we've seen the drop shot from Paolini doesn't work. Bacchina will at least ask the question. Jasmine Paolini on debut secures a first ever WGA tour finals win.
