Hi and welcome to Next Edge. Today, I'm going to be showing you a fun little video that combines
some simple steps that you can use on your next practice session. So in this exercise,
you're going to see a mohawk, a pump, and a swizzle. And I know what you're thinking,
gosh, this is too boring. Well, it's really not. It's taking something really simple and
elaborating on it, making it big, beautiful, using that power. So let's get started. Let's
learn this exercise. So before we put the steps on our axis, let's recap on what these
elements are. So the first one is going to be a swizzle where the heels touch, our feet
come out and away, and then they come back together, a pump. We're going to use a right
pump. So we're at the foot, only the right leg works, right pump together. And we're
going to use a mohawk. We're going to go from our left to our right. And then that exercise
is just going to repeat down the ice. So let's learn this pattern using an axis just so that
you can see my direction and where I'm going. So the first thing that we're going to do
is our two forward pumps, and we're going to pump with our right leg. So we're going
to go right pump together, right pump. Then we're going to do a swizzle to cross over
the axis. Then we're going to do an inside mohawk, left to right, step forward, feet
together. And then we repeat pump one, pump two, bend swizzle, mohawk, step forward,
feet together and repeat down the ice. As you can see on one side, I'm doing the two
pumps. I use that big swizzle to cross over the axis. And then I do a mohawk on the other
side, step forward and repeat down the ice. Now that we have an understanding of our direction
and where to go, let's add a bit more speed and utilize the whole entire ice now. Okay,
now we're here. Let's go. So we're going to go pump one, pump two. Now we're going to
do a swizzle, swizzle, mohawk, left to right, push forward and hold and repeat again. Pump
one, pump two, big swizzle, left to right, step forward. Great job. One more set. Pump
one, two, bend swizzle, left to right, step forward and hold. So with this exercise, I
really want you to focus on getting down in your knee using nice pushing extensions. Now
that we have the steps, we're going to use our upper body to really make it fun and beautiful
and just to challenge yourself a bit more. Sometimes we find that we focus so much on
the legs and we don't challenge our upper body until it comes time to programs. And
then we don't really know how to use our arms correctly. This is the perfect time to take
such a simple step and add these arms. Okay, we're going to take those simple steps and
add some arms. So we're going to go push one, now right arm, down and up, bring the
arms around the body. Then we're going to go press and press, step forward, switch.
And again, one, two, around, push press, push press, step forward and hold. One more set.
Push one, all the way down and up, arms come around the body, push one and two, step and hold.
And there you have it. Those are just some arms that I have given you, but I want you
to challenge yourself. Try some different arms in this exercise. Okay, let's take a look at this
exercise one more time, but now you're going to follow me down the ice. So we're going to
start off with the pumps again. Pump one, pump two, swizzle, mohawk, hold, step forward. Now
we're going to repeat again. Press, down up, down and around, press and press, last set, one.
So there you have it. That is your new fun exercise that combines some simple steps with
our upper body. Hopefully you enjoyed it and happy skating.
