Juesheng Temple, also known as Dazhong Temple, is located at No. 31, Beisanhuan West Road, Haidian District, Beijing. It was first built in the 11th year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1733), and became a royal temple in the 52nd year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1787). One of the venues for praying for rain, it was opened to the public as the Ancient Bell Museum of the Dazhong Temple on October 4, 1985.
Juesheng Temple faces south from the north, with five courtyards in front and back. From south to north, they are the screen wall (no longer exists), the mountain gate, the Tianwang Hall, the Main Hall, the rear hall, the Sutra Library, the Bell Tower and the east and west wings. In addition, there are bell and drum towers and six villas distributed on both sides.
The bell of Juesheng Temple contains a bronze bell cast during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty in China. It is now the largest bronze bell in China. The Yongle Bell was cast during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. It was cast by the Jingshi Bell Foundry in the West Zhuzhong Hutong of Drum Tower in Beijing. It is 6.75 meters high, 3.7 meters in diameter, weighs 46.5 tons, and has a bell lip thickness of 18.5 centimeters. It is known as the "Five Wonders of the Bell King". There are more than 100 Buddhist scriptures in Chinese and Sanskrit cast on the inside and outside of the bell, totaling 230,184 characters. The scriptures are in neat fonts and were written by Shen Du, a calligrapher of the Ming Dynasty. The bell body is narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. The bell sound is rich and sonorous, with undulating sound waves and a lively and elegant rhythm. When the bell is struck, the tail tone lasts for more than two minutes. The bell sound can be heard as far as 15-20 kilometers away. The Yongle Bell is the bell with the largest number of existing inscriptions and is also a treasure of Buddhist culture and calligraphy art.
