Saoirse Ronan Reflects on Starring in Greta Gerwig’s First Film | Women in Hollywood | ELLE

I am Saoirse Ronan and I am a woman in Hollywood. I would say the moment in my career. That still amazes me. A couple of things. I really am so proud that I got to be in Greta Gerwig's first movie. Very, very proud of that. I also went to Telluride Film Festival for the first time recently and they did a tribute for me and it had a compilation of all of the movies that I've ever done, which spans like 22 years. That's mad to me that I have grown up in this world and I've worked with hundreds of people now, hundreds of brilliant people, and they've added so much to me. And I think, yeah, just the fact that like this is such a huge part of my life and it's my job constantly amazes me. The advice I would have given my younger self when little Saoirse was starting out was to make sure that you give as much time and care and energy to your personal life as you do to your work life. The Hollywood moment that still amazes me. The first one that came to my mind was Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain. Whenever I see that, I go, oh, yes, that's Hollywood. It's so beautiful and it's got so much heart and joy. And they just like really knew how to put on a show back then. The first time I saw myself in a character was. This is a difficult question, because obviously there's always going to be elements of your personality that are going to come out in whatever you do. But I think most recently, probably my character in the outrun is the one that I would watch and go, oh, yes, I can see a lot of who I am and a lot of sort of my own character in the role. The future of Hollywood is letting more people into Hollywood. What the industry really needs to be about is just people doing really great work and being given the opportunity to do that great work, which to me is more of the thing that needs to change.
