What Do Sea Otter Pups Eat?

Mara right now is eating a variety of different seafood. Every couple days we introduce another item because we feed a plethora of items to our sea otters here. We'll feed her when we're in training sessions. She's also learning how to get food out of enrichment and that's great because that helps her utilize those natural instincts and abilities that they have and she's also learning how to get food out of ice and that's something new we started this week and it's pretty exciting because she seems to find it very reinforcing and just seeing that energy and excitement about it, it makes me feel good because I know that she's enjoying what we're giving her. Gibson right now is still receiving formula throughout the day. He gets about six bottles and he gets them every three and a half hours. He is a growing big boy and those bottles just make sure that he's getting the calories that he needs, the protein, the fat so that he can continue to grow and we're currently in the process of starting to introduce, you know, shrimp, scallops, mussels, you know, the food that he will be eating as he continues to grow and so as we do that, the more of that food that he eats, then we'll start weeding off the bottles until eventually he's not getting any bottle feedings during the day, but we're just at the beginning stages so we'll see how that goes.
