Hey guys, Joy here, holistic nutritionist.
So I'm gonna show you how to make
like the trendiest drink right now.
But I have to say, I've been using these ingredients
for a really long time, not because they're trendy,
but because of the health benefits.
So this drink I'm gonna show you how to make
is super trendy, super delicious,
and insanely good for you.
So I'm making an iced turmeric ginger latte.
I mean, look at how beautiful the color is.
It's so good for you.
I'm gonna tell you exactly why.
The key ingredient in your iced turmeric ginger latte,
of course, is turmeric.
Now, most people don't actually know,
can we zoom in on that?
Don't actually know that this is turmeric.
It's a root.
And turmeric, yes, it comes in a powder form,
but most people don't realize that the root,
this is what the root looks like.
It's from the same family as ginger, actually.
But turmeric has been around for thousands of years.
Like, it's trendy now, but hello,
people were using it like 4,000 years ago.
And turmeric literally has thousands.
If you go on PubMed and you look up turmeric,
you're gonna find literally thousands of studies.
You know why?
Because this is a super incredible, super food.
Okay, so here's the thing.
I'm not gonna bore you to death for 10 minutes
talking about all the health benefits of turmeric,
but I have to tell you a few of them
because I am a nutritionist
and I do get excited about these things.
Turmeric is like a seriously detoxifying super food.
It actually increases specific detoxification enzymes
that help your body eliminate carcinogenic compounds,
like compounds that cause cancer.
Turmeric is also amazing for heart health.
Now, I realize you may be 21 watching this thinking,
well, Joy, I don't need to worry about heart health.
But actually, yeah, you do.
You wanna start thinking about keeping your heart healthy
when you're young because what you do now
is going to influence your heart health
10 years from now, 20 years from now, when you're elderly.
And turmeric is great for heart health
because it lowers a very inflammatory chemical
called homocysteine.
It's rich in B6.
This is, B6 is so important for heart health.
Okay, so I should actually make this recipe.
First of all, when you make this iced turmeric latte,
you know, if you have like really nice nails,
I'm gonna tell you right now,
your nails, they're gonna turn yellow.
So you may wanna put on gloves.
I don't personally wear gloves because, as you can see,
my nails are very low maintenance.
I'm almost embarrassed to show you
how terrible they look right now
because turmeric really, really stains.
So I'll show you.
I'm gonna crack one open here.
See the orange?
See how bright and beautiful that is?
Okay, so all we're gonna do
is we're just gonna grate four teaspoons of turmeric
using my fine grater.
And we're gonna do two teaspoons of fresh ginger.
Okay, so here's the thing.
Don't, you guys gotta use,
you guys gotta promise me when you make this
that you're actually gonna use fresh ginger root.
Why?
Number one, because of the health benefits.
You're gonna get more health benefits
from using it fresh, whole food versus the powder.
And the taste, tastes so much better.
And by the way, this iced turmeric latte
does not taste like curry.
A lot of people have the misconception
that turmeric tastes like curry.
It doesn't.
It's what gives curry its beautiful color.
Turmeric is also used as a food dye.
That's why it dyes everything.
Do you guys see my cutting board here?
My wood cutting board is now dyed with turmeric.
But that's okay.
I don't mind.
Now, yeah, it does take a little elbow grease.
You can see this is not just like snap your fingers
or go through the Starbucks drive-thru
and order your iced turmeric ginger latte.
Takes a bit of work.
But you know what?
It's worth it.
Because it's so anti-inflammatory,
so rich in antioxidants, so beautifying,
so good for your skin, so good for your detox systems.
When you detox well, this really influences
or really helps you have healthy skin.
Detoxification, key for beautiful skin.
Okay, do you think that's enough?
That's a lot.
That's a good amount.
By the way, I'm doing the ginger now.
Did I already say that?
So fresh ginger.
Did you know that ginger is an amazing food
to help lower inflammation and help reduce pain?
So if you have pain from like arthritis,
anything that ends in itis that causes pain,
ginger is really, really good for.
So is turmeric.
We've like seriously got the two best pain,
natural pain medicines in food right here
in my joyous kitchen.
Okay, so we've got our turmeric, our grated turmeric.
As you can see, I have the nails to prove it.
And we have our ginger.
And now we're going to put this
into one cup of coconut milk.
Now, if you don't like coconut milk,
because I can hear the questions coming in right now.
If you don't like coconut milk, no problem.
Use almond milk, use hemp milk.
Whatever milk, you know, suits your fancy.
So I've got one cup as you see here.
I'm just going to dump it in like that.
I'm going to grab a spoon because I want to stir it up.
So I'm just going to mix it like this.
And I'm actually, I want, you want to let it sit
for about five minutes.
Okay, so I've let it sit for five minutes.
As you can see, hopefully you can see this in the video.
It's gotten really yellow.
That's a good sign.
I'm just going to strain it through here.
So just taking out the solid bits.
Now, if you want to, you don't have to do this.
It's just that your latte isn't going to be nice and creamy.
And so you're going to be left over with the turmeric
and the ginger sort of gritty bits.
So what I would do with this, what's left over,
I would put it in a smoothie.
All right, so I've got my glass
because this is an iced latte of ice cubes.
All I'm going to do is I'm going to pour
my delicious, creamy, wonderful tasting latte over the ice.
I'm going to add a little bit of maple syrup.
You could also use stevia.
You could use coconut, palm sugar as well.
And I'm going to put some cinnamon.
Cinnamon's great for blood sugar balance too.
And it's also very anti-inflammatory.
I'm going to enjoy my iced turmeric ginger latte.
Oh, it's so good.
By the way, I know I've talked so much
about the health benefits of this drink,
but I didn't tell you how damn delicious it is.
It's so good.
Spicy and sweet and creamy and oh so good for you.
So there you have it guys.
There is the trendiest drink right now
that is so good for you, so easy to make.
Please use the whole ingredients.
