What if I told you that the creator of the universe, the one who made the stars, the
mountains and you, wants to have a personal conversation with you?
Yes, you.
The question is, are you ready to listen?
Today I want to explore one of the most incredible truths of Christianity.
God wants to talk to you.
This isn't just an abstract idea, a feel-good notion, or a distant hope.
This is the very heart of a relationship with God.
And it's real.
He wants to speak to you, personally, deeply, and directly.
And if we are willing, we can experience a connection with Him that transforms our lives.
Throughout Scripture, from the Old Testament to the New, we see this remarkable truth repeated
again and again.
God is a communicator.
He spoke to Adam and Eve in the garden, to Moses through the burning bush, to Elijah
in a gentle whisper, and through prophets and apostles.
And through Jesus, He demonstrated that He is not a distant or detached deity.
He desires to dwell with His people and speak into their lives.
So let's take this time to explore what it means that God wants to talk to you.
What does that look like in everyday life?
How can we recognize His voice?
And why does it even matter?
Since the very beginning, God has wanted a relationship with us.
This is the foundational truth of the Bible.
In Genesis, we read that God walked with Adam and Eve in the garden, sharing moments and
conversations with them in the cool of the day.
This connection was more than just companionship.
It was an invitation to know Him deeply and personally.
Even after sin separated humanity from God, He still sought ways to communicate with His
people.
In the Old Testament, He used prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah to speak to Israel, guiding
them, warning them, loving them.
And finally, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate expression of God's desire
to speak to us.
As the book of John tells us, the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
Jesus is literally the Word, God's message, wrapped in human flesh, walking and talking
with us.
Isn't that incredible?
The Bible shows us that God has always wanted to be in conversation with us, and He still
does today.
Now you might be wondering, how does God speak to us now?
In today's world, we don't often hear audible voices or see burning bushes.
But that doesn't mean God is silent.
In fact, He speaks in a variety of ways, and often in ways that are deeply personal.
First and foremost, God speaks through His Word, the Bible.
The book of Hebrews tells us that the Word of God is alive and active.
When we read Scripture, we're not just reading ancient words on a page, we're encountering
the living voice of God.
Each verse, each story, and each promise holds the potential for God to speak directly into
our hearts and lives.
God also speaks through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus promised His followers that after He returned to the Father, He would send the
Holy Spirit to guide us.
And the Spirit does exactly that.
He comforts, convicts, encourages, and leads us closer to God.
Through the Spirit, we can experience God's voice as a still, small voice within us, as
He speaks to our hearts in moments of quiet and reflection.
He may also speak through circumstances, through the wise counsel of others, through sermons,
worship, and even through the beauty of His creation.
The Psalms tell us,
The heavens declare the glory of God.
The skies proclaim the work of His hands.
Every sunset, every starry night, every detail of creation is like a message from God, reminding
us that He is near, that He loves us, and that He wants to be known.
One of the most common struggles we face is discerning God's voice.
With so many distractions, how can we tell when God is speaking?
Jesus said,
My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me.
Like sheep recognizing the voice of their shepherd, we can learn to recognize God's
voice through familiarity and closeness.
This takes time, commitment, and practice, but it's possible.
Here are a few ways we can grow in this.
First, spend time in His Word.
The more we read the Bible, the more familiar we become with God's character, His ways,
and His voice.
When we know what He has already said, we're better equipped to discern His voice in new
situations.
Second, pray and listen.
Prayer isn't just about talking to God, it's about listening.
When we sit quietly before Him, we give Him space to speak into our hearts.
It might be a thought, a feeling, or a new perspective that comes to mind.
Third, seek confirmation.
God's voice will never contradict His Word or lead us into sin.
If you feel that God is speaking something to you, seek confirmation from Scripture,
mature believers, and prayer.
So why does this all matter?
Why is it so important to hear from God?
When we hear God's voice, it anchors us in truth.
In a world filled with confusion, God's voice provides clarity, purpose, and direction.
He speaks to guide us, comfort us, challenge us, and encourage us.
His voice reminds us of our identity as His beloved children, even when the world tries
to tell us otherwise.
God's voice gives us hope.
He speaks to remind us of His promises, that He will never leave us, that we are forgiven,
that we have a purpose.
When life feels overwhelming, His voice can be a lifeline that pulls us back to His heart
and His truth.
Now let's talk about practical steps we can take to tune into God's voice.
First establish a daily time for devotions.
Set aside time each day to read the Bible and pray.
Even just 10-15 minutes a day can make a difference in growing familiar with God's voice.
Second, find a quiet space.
Distractions are everywhere, so finding a quiet place to pray and read scripture can
help you focus and listen.
Third, consider journaling.
Writing down thoughts, prayers, and what you sense God is saying can help clarify and solidify
His messages to you.
And finally, find community.
Surround yourself with other believers who can encourage you and help you discern God's voice.
God often speaks through others, and community can provide much needed accountability.
So are you ready to hear from God?
He's waiting.
Right now He's reaching out to you, calling you into a deeper relationship, wanting to
speak to you in ways that are personal, profound, and life-changing.
Hearing God's voice isn't reserved for the super-spiritual or the perfect.
It's for anyone who is willing to listen.
That includes you.
He knows your struggles, your fears, your dreams, and your doubts, and He wants to talk
to you about them.
As we close, I invite you to take a moment in prayer.
Open your heart to God, ask Him to speak to you, and be ready to listen.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who desires a relationship with us.
Thank You for speaking to us through Your Word, through Your Spirit, and through creation.
Help us to recognize Your voice and to follow wherever You lead.
Open our ears to hear, and our hearts to respond.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
God is speaking.
Are you listening?
