The Weather Kids campaign was launched on 21st March 2024 in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and The Weather Channel. In collaboration with UNDP offices and Meteorological offices worldwide, the Weather Kids campaign was adapted in over 40 countries, featuring local 'weather kids' forecasting their version of the future in 2050. Each adaptation reflects the unique challenges of their country, making the message more impactful. These children aren’t just sharing weather reports—they’re urging us, the adults, to take responsibility for their future.
Disclaimer: Forecasts based on 2023 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the UNDP Climate Horizons and with a scenario of a 1.5 to 2°C increase in temperatures.
My name is Ahmed, and I have a very special report on weather.
From north to south, everything is out of control.
If we don't listen to the scientists, things will be more chaotic when they get bigger.
Let's look at the forecasts for 2050.
The hot waves will affect 94% of children.
And playing in the open air will become a thing of the past.
The drought will destroy wheat crops,
affecting the only food my little brother loves, bread.
These disasters will cost about $6 trillion worldwide to those who pay taxes.
This is not good news for my family.
All this is due to a layer of pollution.
The heat is trapped in our air cover, which we can easily avoid.
But don't worry.
There is still a chance for a clear sky.
At this moment, clean energy systems are moving from east to west,
creating thousands of jobs.
And the price of solar energy has decreased more than fuel and gas.
When we look at the artificial moon, we can see that there are solutions,
such as clean energy that can protect us from climate change.
This will not be easy at all,
but it is certainly easier than stopping Fatima's mother.
At the moment, we are monitoring the situation, and we will keep you updated.
While we monitor the decisions of the elders,
we only hope that they stop wasting time
and confront this problem that is completely solvable.
