Online Passport Renewal: Getting Started

Before you start your online renewal application for your new passport, get the passport book or card you want to renew. You'll need to enter information from this passport on your renewal application. Keep the passport and do not mail it to us. Make sure your most recent passport was good for 10 years and check to see if it expired less than 5 years ago or will expire in less than 1 year. Get a digital passport photo. Get your credit or debit card to quickly pay for your passport. Read the requirements before you start your application. Make sure you read every statement on this page and check every box to confirm you can renew your passport online. You will not be able to continue with your application if you do not check all the boxes. When you are done, click the Next button. You'll move to the next part of the application where you can tell us if you want to renew a passport book, a passport card, or both documents. Shortly after you submit your application, we will cancel your most recent passport so you cannot travel internationally while you wait for your new passport.
