So the question of the day is do I take my spinning rod or do I take my fly pole?
Well I'd hope for the fishing to be a little better down here but at least for me today it
wasn't very successful. I didn't even see anything moving around in the water so not really sure
what the fishing conditions are maybe a little earlier in the summer when there's a little bit
more water in the river. Anyhow I think I'm just gonna get my boots on. I might do a little
exploring while I'm down here and then just go back up to camp and start a fire. It's cold today
almost feels like it wants to snow. You know when you're just hanging around camp there's always
some task or something that you can find to do. I don't need the saw anymore this trip but
she'll be ready to go for me when I go to get her the next time.
This is just my splitting axe. It doesn't need to be shaving sharp but I don't want it super dull
either. Well we're just kind of relaxing now. We still got a little bit of day left. I would say
that kind of where I'm imagining the hills to be and where the sun's at right now I'd say we still
got probably a good half hour to 45 minutes of sunlight before the sun does go down. But man
what a difference a day can make. You know to be honest I didn't film anymore after I was down at
the river yesterday and it started raining got cold. I was a little miserable by the time I got
out and back to the van. So I just hunkered down in the van and stayed warm and watched movies for
the afternoon. But today has been gorgeous sunny and you know cool but nice. Nice and when the sun's
on you it's pleasant like super pleasant. So yeah that's the nice thing about the van. You know if
some weather comes through and things get a little bit cruddy you can hunker down, stay warm,
stay comfortable and then when the sun comes out you're still here and you get out and enjoy it.
So if you ever have this happen this is normal. Basically what's happening is it'll burn like
this until the pipe that's coming up through gets hot enough. Once it gets hot enough it
turns the gas from a liquid to a vapor and then it will actually do what you want. So just go
ahead and let it burn even though it's coming out of the top just you know be in a safe place.
But as you can see it just takes a minute and they'll start to they'll start to glow like
what you expect. Now I'll tell you what I don't know if it's because we're outdoors
or because I cooked it over the fire but this steak just tastes amazing. Very simple
I just let it sit out for a little bit to get up to I guess outdoor temperature. A little
McCormick's steak seasoning and grilled on the cast iron skillet over the fire.
So good. Great way to end a beautiful day.
meant to be in the great outdoors
