Hola! Bienvenidos! Welcome to beautiful Valladolid!
Buenos dias, good morning Country Collectors today we are here in the charming colonial
city of Valladolid. It has been named as one of Mexico's pueblos magicos - magical towns and we
can't wait to show you why. But first, how do you get here?
Valladolid is centrally located which makes it
easily accessible from popular spots like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
Since we were in Cancun we headed to the ADO bus station downtown
and purchased our one-way ticket direct to Valladolid for 274 pesos or about 14 US dollars.
We would recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to your buses departure
so you can get a snack and get situated.
Alright looks like it's time to board.
Look we saved you a seat!
The buses are super comfortable
and they have also taken steps to keep you safe during the pandemic.
A quick two and a half hours later -
And we have made it! Welcome to Valladolid!
And make sure you SUBSCRIBE (click down below). We APPRECIATE YOU!
Established by the Spanish in 1543 Valladolid actually sat some distance from here.
In 1545 they relocated it here and built it on top of the Mayan City of Zaci.
If you're a history buff Valladolid is the place for you!
Right behind us here this is the temple and ex-convent of San Bernardino de Siena.
It looks gorgeous let's go check it out!
It was constructed in 1552 under the Franciscan order
and played a large role in the conversion of Mayans to Christianity.
Hey it looks like there's a museum right here where we can learn a little more history about this beautiful building.
Wow it looks really beautiful. We definitely recommend coming in here
just for the architecture and the colors. It's yellow and it's just like a great way
to start this morning. It was 40 pesos per person to come in and we can't wait to take a look around!
Wow this place is so beautiful. Back here there is actually a well that goes down to a cenote
that the church was built on top of. Recently archaeologists were diving here and they found
all kinds of artifacts they never seen anywhere else in the Yucatan, so cool.
Check it out, it's the cenote, that's so cool!
WOAH - so that is the well that they used to get the fresh water from and
also where they found all the artifacts.
Did you know of the 6,000 cenotes in the world
2,500 of them are found right here in the Yucatan!?
If you're interested in learning about
about the history of this building they have a ton of information in the museum.
I give that place two nuns up! He thinks he's so nunny.
Now we're going to go head to one of the
most colorful streets here and prettiest in all of Valladolid.
We'd love for you to come with us!
Right now we are walking on Calzada de los Frailes which means the causeway of the friars and it
connects the convent to the main center of town.
Honestly it is one of the prettiest streets we have ever been on in Mexico.
It's a photographers dream!
I mean look at these colors!
This street is home to a ton of restaurants, boutiques, and cafes.
Speaking of cafes, Adam could use one right now. POR FAVOR!
So we're gonna head in and get a coffee come with us!
This might be one of the cutest cafes I've ever seen.
Uno cappuccino para llevar.
Sencillo o doble?
Doble
POR FAVOR! (laughing)
It's also an art gallery. Let's head in and check it out!
If you're looking for a place for a pick-me-up in the morning that
is the one! The colors and caffeine, BOOM! Fantastico!
And you know I can't start my day without some food. I see a stand across the street.
How does some breakfast taco sound? Let's go!
I am so excited. These are cochinita pibil which is a specialty of the Yucatan.
It is pork that has been marinated in citrus and
then slow roasted. I can't wait to grab some of these tacos! Let's check it out!
Oh man those look like perfection!
A little present. Aw, muchas gracias. De nada.
He gave us a little present.
"You're not going to be disappointed with that." (laughter)
The juice guy just pulled up! This is the perfect breakfast.
This thing is huge! This is fresh naranja or orange juice. It was 25 pesos or a little
bit over a dollar. Let's jump in.
Oh that is so cool and refreshing. I really like it!
They even offer some seating. I don't know if it's big enough for my butt but.
Oooo just right.
This thing looks ridiculous. It's an entire pork rib.
I actually saw him pull the bone out.
WOW! (laughter)
I'm speechless and I just want to jump in!
Mmm, that is like the most tender pork I've ever had.I feel like I say this all the
time but this is the best taco I've ever had.
So delicious my mouth is full of flavor. Smokiness.
The onion's perfect - that citrus that they have on there that was marinated in.
PERFECTION!
Those were Spec-TACO-lar!
You knew there was going to be a taco pun!
Those delicious tacos were 40 pesos or two dollars for all four of them.
That's crazy, you have to check him out he's
located right across from the entrance of that beautiful street we just showed you Calzada de los Frailes.
If you don't come you will be missing out! It's true.
Now we are heading to Casa de los Venados, The House of the Deer.
Shout out Tammy for letting us know about this! Thanks Tammy!
It is the number one thing to do here in Valladolid on Tripadvisor and we can't wait to check it out!
And a little tip when you're walking around Valladolid. They have balconies that are just
right at the knock Adam out head height. So make sure you're keeping those peepers peepin'
when you're walking around or you might catch one right in the dome!
And look at this pretty pink building. Pretty in Pink - that's one of my favorite movies!
What's up Molly Ringwald? (laughter)
You gotta ring the doorbell to get in.
Hola! Que tal? Bien, gracias!
This is a private house and we normally do guided tours. There is a guided tour at 11:30.
The entrance is just beautiful. We're so excited to experience this with you, let's go!
This place is incredible! It's over 18,000 square feet, 400 years old and houses over
3,000 pieces of original Mexican folk art.
Right now we're going over to where the owners live
and it's supposed to be the most beautiful part of the museum.
You have got to check this out!
WOW!
Okay I could definitely stay here!
And I used to have a problem decorating just one room.
This is insane!
And one of the coolest things about this whole thing is all of the money from
these tours goes directly to local charities all over the town that support all different
people in all different walks of life.
We hope to see you one day!
David is the best tour guide!
SUBSCRIBE!
(laughter)
Gracias David. Adios amigo. ADIOS!
Wow Casa de los Vanados did not disappoint. Thanks again Tammy for your recommendation.
It is 97 degrees out right now so we are gonna head to the cenote in town to cool down. Come with us!
Cenote Zaci is located just a five minute walk from the
center of town and is a great way to cool off in this midday heat.
I think there may be a problem.
As you can see and hear the cenote is closed due to construction.
But we are Country Collectors and we are not going to let that ruin our day!
Lucky for us there are a handful of other beautiful cenotes right around this area.
So let's go check one out!
We've heard wonderful things about Cenote Oxman
so we're gonna go grab a taxi and head there we would love for you to join us.
Oooo what are you drinking?
Cristal?
Some Cristal baby, you know that's my style!
No I'm just kidding but
what I'm not kidding about is staying hydrated people!
It gets hot out here and we care about you!
Valladolid is also a great jumping off point to get to Chichen Itza.
If you haven't seen our Chichen Itza video we will link it in the description below.
We give you all the tips and tricks to
get the most out of your day there. It's a ton of fun!
One of the best places to pick up a taxi
is in the Zocalo - the main square. Right in front of Iglesia San Servacio.
Cenote Oxman is located about 15 minutes from town.
And it is 100 pesos about 5 USD - let's go!
We just got here and it's remarkably stunning.
This is an old hacienda. It used to be an agave plantation.
It was an easy ride here. You can get here yourself by car, taxi, motorbike and along the
way we actually saw a bike path that runs all the way here. It takes about 40 minutes to do
but today is just too hot! MUCHO CALOR!
So let's head in and go cool off in the Cenote!
We'll CE-NO-TE you down there!
So this place is really cool. They offer two different packages.
The first one is 150 pesos about seven dollars
and that includes the piscina; the pool, the cenote and
your life jacket. That is mandatory.
They have another one that is 250 pesos includes all that
and 200 of those pesos goes towards consumption in their restaurant.
I looked at Adam and asked what he wanted and he was like
"of course with the food." So we're gonna head down now and change, shower
and jump in the cenote. Come along!
I couldn't find Adam and then I saw hammocks. Look where he is!
Hola! Hey it's not time for a siesta yet. Oh that's right we gotta go to the cenote!
(Laughing)
We're gonna change and shower. We'll be back in a (snap).
We're back! Let's go dive in!
Wow! Look at this! This reminds me of cenote Ik-Kil
from our chichen itza video but here they also have a rope swing as well as a jumping platform.
Let's go on the rope swing!
YEA!
Show off!
(Laughing)
That was good! That was really good! (Laughing)
Wow! This is spectacular.
The sun is streaming through creating these beautiful light rays.
There's these little fish everywhere.
Adam's about to go on the rope swing...
WoooHooo!
(Laughing)
Wooh!
(both of us laughing)
You made quite a splash! That was a little back flop just for you guys.
(Laughing)
That was awesome!
I feel like this might be the wrong size for me.
(Laughing)
But i could be wrong. Maybe this is the new safety standards.
(Laughing)
I could stay here all day but we gotta keep this day moving. We're gonna head upstairs,
hang by the pool and get some lunch.
Oooooooo! My favorite time of the day!
Time to eat! Yes! Let's go.
I'm just walking up the steps and look who I found.
Hola señor!
And don't forget to check out the cenote from above, when you're done.
It really lets you see how grand it is. It's stunning. Check it out.
And i don't know who's planning on diving from up here but,
thank you for letting me know i'm not allowed to do it.
Now let's go get some lunch.
Welcome! We saved you a seat. Oh gracias!
This is awesome and my hair is stuck in it!
Uh-Oh! (Laughing)
OW! That's okay. I had the exact same problem when I came in. Oh shut up!
(Laughing)
Horchata? Jamaica? Perfecto. Es para compartir. Gracias.
(Laughing)
Remember, don't lose your ticket. This is what allows you to spend that
money on consumption that you paid at the entrance.
Oh what did we get to drink? We got a jamica and a horchata. But in Spanish you gotta remember the
h's are silent. Oh right! This is an horchata, which is a rice based drink that they have around here.
As well as jamica. Which is made from hibiscus flowers.
Looks delicious! Give it a try.
Mmmmmmm!
Wait! (Laughing)
Oh I can't decide. They're both so good!
Lucky you!
We're gonna take a dip in the pool while we wait for our food. Let's jump in!
And remember to fasten this up or you'll get bugs in your palapa!
Wow I could get used to this. Cenote, swimming pool, food and an angel!
It's been a wonderful day. Thanks so much for coming along.
It wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun if you hadn't joined us. It's true!
Ooooooh, looks like our food's here!
Muchas gracias. Gracias. Y Gracias. Do you like spicy? Yes! Love Spicy. Okay it's coming.
Perfecto.
Three thumbs up! You can't beat that!
Hey and she's back! Five!
Ooooo ho hooooo!
Our food just arrived and it looks muy rico! We got two specialties of the Yucatan state.
I got Papadzules. And i got Langaniza de Valladolid. Let's jump in!
Whenever they say habanero sauce always do a taste test first.
Wow! That's like instant fuego on my tongue! I'm so glad I checked....I'm so glad i checked before.
It's delicious but, you should know what you're putting in your mouth before you put it in there
(Laughing) Whew!
(Laughing) It's exactly how the sausage makes me feel! I love it!
You know he makes everything into a taco. Or my Mexican hot dog.(Laughing)
Mmmmmm.
It's cooked just right. It's smoky and delicious.
What a great meal. That came out to exactly what our consumption was, 400 pesos.
But don't forget to tip your server.
Wherever you go, the propina is not included when you're using your consumption.
We are heading now back to the parking lot in hopes that there is a taxi.
They told us that they could call us one if there isn't but it's gonna be a bit more expensive.
So, let's see if there's one here. Fingers crossed!
When we walked out there weren't any taxis here, but we just waited a couple minutes and fortunately one pulled up.
So you just have to have some patience.
So the taxi costs 100 pesos the same as when we came here, five USD.
We just got back to our place. We're gonna head in and take a quick siesta,
but don't you worry. We have a lot more in store for you. We'll see you in a little bit at the Zocalo.
We're back and so glad that you're here with us.
We are here at Francisco Canton, the main plaza in Valladolid. It's where everyone comes to have a little walk and hang out.
Let's go check it out!
This is something really cool that you can do here when you're in Valladolid.
They have a free walking tour. She's going to give you some info right now.
Hi! Hola! My name is Maria. I am a guide here in Valladolid!
I am from free walking tour by Valladolid.
And you can find us every day 10 am 5 pm, 6 pm and 7 pm. You're more than welcome to join us!
This is so nice and relaxing and it's a great place to come if you want to try some Mexican
antojitos, some snacks. They have a lot of different offerings like elotes, helados and
Adam's favorite... marquesitas!
I didn't know this was a thing but apparently batman is making marquesitas. Good for him!
You may be wondering what kind of chairs these are, because I know I was.
These are called kissing chairs.
They're actually two connected chairs that come together in between, that give you this great,
face-to-face perspective for conversations as well as some....
Besos! Beso me, Beso me, Beso me....
Not on the YouTube channel! Lo siento!
I know some people have some crazy rule about eating dessert before dinner but, I don't care.
As my grandpa said, "life's short, eat dessert first." We heard from our new friend Johnny, that we met
today, that there is some delicious coconut ice cream, right on the corner here of the Zocalo.
Let's go try some.
Not only does he have coconut, he also has oreo, dragon fruit and honey corn. Elote flavored ice cream.
I'm gonna try that.
Look at that he even takes the money with tongs.
Safety first!
Wow! These look fantastic and they are melting quick. So we better get to trying these.
Oh my goodness!
Honey corn ice cream! Wow! This is insane! There are actual kernels of sweet corn in here!
That's amazing. This is amazing.
This tastes fantastic too thank you so much Johnny. You weren't lying.
My mind is is seriously blown! Mexico you are filled with geniuses. We love you!
This is A-MAIZE-ING! (Laughing) We got corn jokes. That's right!
You hear that music? There's even a guy walking around serenading everyone on his mini karaoke machine.
So i think Adam's gonna become a part of the show....
(Adam singing Besame Morenita)
VIVA MEXICO! MARIACHI!
ARRIBA YUCATAN!
When you're walking around the park it's hard to miss this beautiful building behind me.
This is the Iglesia de San Servacio. It's not open right now but we did
get to go there yesterday morning. Check it out.
Now that we've had dessert, It's time for some dinner! There are a lot of authentic,
and affordable restaurants right around the main plaza.
We have heard that El Atrio, is one of the best. So we are gonna head there right now.
We'd love for you to come.
Well unfortunately they are full right now, but fortunately
they take reservations. So Javier said he'd make us one and reserve a table for us in one hour.
So while we're waiting we're gonna go and try and find a nice rooftop restaurant to have a beverage.
I actually see a rooftop right up here that looks really nice.
Let's go head up there.
We are on the rooftop at El Mason De Marques, and it is beautiful.
We got two drinks. You also have to order an appetizer to enjoy this view
so we grab some guacamole.
Wow, these drinks look fantastic and the view is even better!
Muchas Gracias!
The rain clouds have found us and unfortunately i believe it's gonna
start pouring. So hopefully they're gonna move us inside so we can enjoy our guacamole.
Well at least we got to see it.
Man it is pouring out!
Not so bad either.
So they moved us into this little banquet hall and it's actually nice.
It's air conditioned. There's wine bottles behind us, chandeliers above us.
It's pretty sweet. Yeah. So we're definitely gonna have to cancel our reservation at El Atrio.
So we won't be showing you that but when you're here I recommend checking it out.
We have heard wonderful things.
Remember guys, you're traveling, roll with the punches. Sometimes it rains. Sometimes it's hot.
You just got to make the best of it...and this ain't so bad. Exactly.
Our guacamole just showed up, and it looks like the best guacamole I've ever seen!
She neglected to mention it's guacamole con ribeye. I've never heard of it before.
Me neither but it looks delicious. Check it out.
This is a first.
Increible! Es muy rico.
We are planning on taking you to this beautiful light show at the church of San Bernardino.
It's in spanish at nine o'clock, and in english at 9:25, but unfortunately, because of the weather it
has been cancelled.
But when you come here definitely check it out.
It's supposed to show you the history of Valladolid on the walls and, we've heard that it's really nice.
So i think it's a good time to say goodbye to you here.
Thank you so so much for coming along today.
It wouldn't have been anywhere near as much fun if you hadn't been here with us.
If you like this video give us a big thumbs up, comment, subscribe and...
don't forget to RING, RING, RING THE BELLLL!
We'll see you. Next time! ADIOS!
And people... You just missed your mouth! I did miss my mouth.
And people do not forget to hydrate. It get so hot out here and we care about you!
