Hola! Bienvenidos! Welcome to beautiful Mazunte!
Buenos dias! Good morning Country Collectors we are so excited because we are back
on the Oaxacan coast. We are in Mazunte where shoes are optional and the living is easy.
We can't wait to explore with you so let's get started!
Where we're staying is about a five minute walk into the center of town.
There's a lot of stores and shops along the way selling some really cute bohemian clothing.
There's also massage parlors and temazcals. Let's go take a look around.
One of the first things you're gonna notice is just how chill this place is.
Our alarm clock this morning we're the roosters next door
and then the dogs joined in. It's a very slow paced place.
It's about nine o'clock and there aren't many people around. We're digging it so far!
First things first I got a fuel up.
I see a great little cafe right across the street let's go check it out!
Hi! Hey!
Oh looks like you got a nice table there!
I do have a nice table here why don't you come join me. Okay! We saved you a seat.
This is my kind of menu.
They have the food, the drinks and the cheese!
That looks so good.
Oh man I got eggs benedict with poached eggs and a pork chop on top
and Heidi got... the omelet of the sea.
You can see that big shrimp in there with queso de cabra
which is goat cheese and some hollandaise sauce on it!
It's so good!
Let's jump into this!
It's like a nice freshly baked english muffin. Mmmhmm.
Yeah. It just came out of the oven.
The pork chop is ..
It's a fantatsic spot!
Wow that breakfast was delicious!
When we walked outside there's a motorbike rental place, juice maker and something we heard before we came
here was that there were no atms but there are two atms right here.
And talking about motorbikes this town is very small so it's accessible by foot but
if you want to go to nearby towns such as Zipolite
you can rent a motorbike or an atv. They also have pasajeros
which are those colectivos you can hop on for a dollar or something like that to get between the towns.
This right here is the main highway that runs through town
and then there's about three or four little roads that go off of it down to the ocean.
Let's head over here and check out what they got!
So if you're looking for a more authentic beach vacation and you want to escape the crowds of Cabo and Cancun.
We definitely recommend heading down to the Oaxaca coast.
Something you'll notice when you're walking around Mazunte is that things are done in a traditional way.
There's a lot of comals, there's barbecues where they're cooking on wood instead of gas or charcoal.
It's very cool. It's a good mix of new and old.
Since we are back on the ocean you are going to notice a lot of restaurants selling fresh seafood or mariscos.
It's one of our big rules. Only eat seafood when you're at the ocean. Yeah!
The farther you get away the less fresh it's gonna be.
Yeah so there's a higher chance you may get sick.
And we are getting towards the beach you can hear some music. It's getting a bit more lively!
We are finally at the beach let's get these tootsies in the sand baby!
It's pretty hot though! Oh it is hot!
I had to wear my shoes. I'm putting my shoes back on!
That was quick. But wow check out playa Mazunte.
It looks so gorgeous!
Welcome to paradise! Seriously!
And as you can see there's a ton of restaurants up here.
They have chairs and umbrellas you can come and chill out here all day.
Tayo here was just telling us that Restaurante Brisa del Mar has just consumption.
So you can sit in a chair under an umbrella, all you have to do is eat some food and have some drinks
and you can just enjoy this beach in the shade
A very popular activity to do when you come to mizunte is take out a lancha or boat
to go see turtles, dolphins and whales. Right now between November and April is ballena season!
The whales are migrating on the coast so for 300 pesos or about $15 USD
you can hop in a boat and do a two-hour tour out to nature's paradise!
And this fishing boat is just about to pull onto the beach we saw this earlier this is wild check it out!
Parked!
Check out these houses right here on the side of this hill!
They look gorgeous! I don't think you can beat that view.
I don't think so either.
We are now just gonna head around these rocks to Playa Rinconcito on the other side come with us!
I know yesterday we were able just to walk around the rocks here
but I think because the tide's so high we're gonna have to climb up over this.
yeah!
Now it feels like an adventure!
Hey look it's in our own private beach!
There you go!
Can we name this in the name of our Country Collectors?
I think so! CC baby!
Country Collector Beach! Woo! Boom!
Country Collector Beach! Just for you and us! I love it.
We're gonna follow her she knows what's up. This is the way she goes to work.
uh oh oh my gosh!
Wow I kind of looked out there. But I gotta run!
Made it safe!
Hopefully Adam can do the same!
She left me behind!
Whoa!
Definitely be careful about the waves coming up.
Look at this! This looks really cool. There's a little restaurant right up there!
We got a lot more umbrellas and chairs a lot more boats up here.
That guy over there is selling some ice cream on the beach I love it!
We've talked to you about the flag system before it's green here so that means you can go in the
water. There are lifeguards here as well and lots of people. That should be a good sign for you that
it is okay. Down the beach farther towards playa mazunte there were not a lot of people in the
water and there are riptides and undertows there. So be extremely careful we care about you.
Yes we do!
And right over here is Punta Cometa which is a very popular spot to hike down and watch the sunset.
We're gonna head there later so stay tuned for that.
And if you come here and you're looking for an umbrella and chairs it is 200 pesos or $10 USD for the entire day.
Which I think is quite a deal.
She said she would bring us down some beers and cold coconuts if we wanted them.
I wish we could stay here longer but we have to head back into town and show you more of it let's go!
And you can see a lot more vendors selling some jewelry, clothes and also offering some more tours.
I don't know about you but I am thirsty from that beach.
I see a coconut stand down here let's go down and grab one. Sounds great!
Hola! (Hello!)
Como estan? (How are you?)
Bien gracias! (Good thank you)
Bienvenidos aqui al Senor Cocos! (Welcome to Mr. Cocos!)
Dos cocos por favor.
No trip to Mazante would be complete without a stop at Senor Cocos!
He does the best coco frios!
I'm so excited and so thirsty!
Wow this is a big one!
That is like twice the size of your head. I mean this thing is huge! And no popote por favor, no straws!
It's malo!
No plastic!
Let's try this out! I'm so excited!
Where'd you go?
Oh man! That is COCOTASTIC!
It's delicious! COCORIFIC!
COCORIFIC! Nice one babe!
Oh my god you're making a mess!
Ahh every last drop!
Un bano con coco! He's taking a shower in the coconut water. Oh man it was totally worth it!
Now that we are fueled up and feeling better we can get this show on the road.
It's definitely been quite a change coming from the cold mountains in san jose to the
beach but we're loving it.
And speaking of roads we are actually on the probably the busiest road of the three that are in town here.
This is where you're gonna have the most restaurants.
Lots of action going on here comes a guy selling sugar cane. I love it!
So we just had some cold coconuts this guy here goes one more step.
You can get it with bacardi other kinds of rum. He'll throw a little spice in there for you!
Rum in the coconut and shake it all up!
Maybe we should come back here later. We'll see you here around five!
Here is where the hike to Punta Cometa is and also Playa Mermejita.
While you're walking around you'll notice this town is geared towards a healthy lifestyle.
They have a lot of retreats, yoga retreats there's meditations going on, massages and a lot of healthy restaurants.
And that was town. As you can see it is small but it has a big personality.
We are now going to head back to our place and grab our scooter and head to La Ventanilla.
Which is a village that runs a community program in ecotourism.
We're gonna try to hop on a boat and go see some crocodiles and some other wildlife so come with us!
Hug bug! Hug bug!
Oh I needed that. I'm feeling a little low. Me too. Do you guys need one? Get in here!
Traveler tip make sure to try to park in the shade otherwise you're going to burn your buns!
We're putting a towel on this because I did not park in the shade
when we got back last night it was all shaded. Sue me!
And it's like an oven!
We're also not sure that we have enough gas to start it so fingers crossed. Yeah keep your fingers crossed for us!
Come on baby!
Come on oh there we go - oh!
We're gonna have to go get some gas right now!
We are off!
I love riding a motorbike!
Ahh the breeze!
Alright and I think the gas man is just right over here.
I love the enthusiasm!
Alright you gotta pop the seat.
Alright and look at this! They got the gasoline in a coke bottle.
He's the man he knows!
Listo! (Ready!)
i think it costs 75 pesos I gave him 100 he's bringing me some change.
Yeah 75 pesos so like four bucks to fill up. That is great!
And not only is he a good mechanic he's also a great singer he was just serenading us!
La la la la! La la la la!
Alright we're all fueled up let's go! Muchas graicas! Adios, hasta luego!
And where we're going is only about two kilometers out of town. So it's only gonna take about five
minutes to get there. Wow there's a lot of traffic up here. Let's see what's going on.
Accidente?
Oh no I think there's a big accident up here.
I guess we're gonna find out.
Ut oh there may be something like blocking the road.
This guy just said that there was an accident with a bus up ahead
but that the motos can pass.
Oh yeah we got to be really careful.
Well I'd go now.
Oh yeah they're hooking it up.
Wow. Oh that was pretty scary huh?
Hopefully they get that out pretty soon and nobody got hurt.
It didn't look like it.
Just some traffic.
We are taking a left down here to La Ventanilla.
I think we're just following these signs.
It's a little adventure. I like this! Yeah.
I guess we'll just keep going straight. Until otherwise instructed.
I just checked my phone to see that we're on the right course but there's no service
so we're just gonna keep going and see where this takes us!
Yeah make sure you come along with us!
Wow look at this tree!
Oh there's a big tope! It's beautiful!
Eeh we gotta turn around. I saw a main road over here to the right so we're gonna head that way.
But it's nice back here sometimes you know when you get lost you get the best surprises!
Alright go left. Yeah here we go this looks a lot more well trodden.
Yep looks like we're on the right course now.
La Ventanilla!
And we have some friends. Yeah these chickens back here.
And right ahead of us is the Centro Ecotouristico La Ventanilla.
It says welcome, bienvenidos!
And look at this we've already seen our first crocodile.
What are we in Lake Placid?
That's so cool!
Benny was just telling us all about this area it's a collective they work together
promote eco-tourism. He said it's a hundred pesos so five dollars to go on a shared
boat um we're just gonna wait about 10-15 minutes to see if some more people come in,
and then we are gonna head off on this adventure!
Come with us!
Whenever you have the option to do the ecotourism route definitely take it.
Our environment is in such dire straits right now.
We have really pushed mother earth right to the limit.
Not only is it good for the planet but it also helps out the local community.
Buy local, eat local, be a responsible tourist. We appreciate you!
We are off and of course Adam is back here getting some ice cream.
He can never turn down some good helado.
I got some cocoa ice cream it was 20 pesos or one dollar and it is so delicious. There's big chunks of coconut in it.
Super like natural.
Absolutely it's not too sweet.
Let me try that!
yummy!
You guys want a bite?
This adventure is starting with a 12 minute walk, very precise.
To where the lancha or the boat is.
I'm super psyched. I hope we see a huge crocodile and maybe it'll eat Adam.
Hey!
And we made it to the boat! It's just ahead.
Woo look at that. Alright here we go!
We are very excited and already wow this is stunning!
He was just saying the water here is brown, it's like a coffee color
because of the mangroves. They're red mangroves.
And here you can find turtles, crocodiles, and a ton of different kinds of birds, and fish.
Yeah super cool!
And as you can see he is rowing this boat along.
Since this is a place that they want to keep clean they don't allow any motors.
It's all super eco and we are so grateful to be here.
It's stunning and we're so glad you came along.
Check it out there's a crocodile right there! They are so close.
Yeah! And sneaky I can barely see them! Yeah oh yeah!
Well we've already seen like four in like two minutes. Those are the only ones we've seen. Yeah!
There's a bird right there they call it pato buzo.
I think we would say like cormorant.
Whoa I don't know if you can see this crocodile right there it's kind of coming towards us.
Oh my gosh!
wow!
There's another one right here and there's like a huge one out here there's so many crocodiles here.
Benny was just saying that there's about 45 to 50 crocodiles in the lagoon here
and that they can grow up to three and a half meters which is like what 13 -14 feet? Yeah.
He was just saying that this area right here was completely devastated
in two hours by hurricane Pauline. It's pretty quick but you know women work fast.
Keep those peepers peeping people there might be some crocodiles out here.
Actually there are some crocodiles. We know there are but they could be up on this land so yeah you got to be careful.
Oh yeah look at that guy!
Whoa!
That's probably the closest I've been to a crocodile like this.
And I am staying on my toes in case I gotta book it!
Oh scary!
Oh he just left because this guy showed up holy guacamole!
That one is huge! Way bigger. 16 feet.
It's so pretty back here in these palm trees they sort of have like a little eco park.
They have some deer. I see a vulture over here burros, horses and monkeys.
It's very neat!
I don't know if you knew this but a coconut actually turns into that tree. The palm tree!
Just like this. This is the seed it drops to the ground it floats in the ocean
and when it hits the shore it starts to grow like this. Boom. Palm tree! Palm tree. I love it!
How cool?
This guy's looking for some food for sure.
He's pretty timid.
He knows Adam will get the food.
You better not mess with my food!
We are in the deer pen.
Don't get too close. Stay behind me!
People love deer.
Oh look how cute and small they are they're like key deer the ones from Key West!
Look at that!
One of the best things about this entire project is that all of the money that you
pay to come in here is being used to help to maintain this and to take care of these animals.
And for the community. Every penny goes back to the community and this beautiful
area we're in right now. What a neat place!
Look what Benny just gave us!
Okay yeah just take it all.
There you go!
Fun? I'm not gonna lie it was kind of fun feeding a deer just now.
Yes of course it was!
They're very cute, they look so soft. Yeah I know.
Wow this is like the crocodile jackpot over here!
And look at all of these little ones in here he said they're 100 days old and they stay here until they're about one year.
And then they'll relocate them.
He said these guys eat shrimp and chicken. I was like damn they eat better than I do!
He said this one here is about 450 kilos so about I guess a thousand pounds.
And if you can see right on top its nose its nostrils are opening and closing.
It's a dinosaur right here people!
And I love this sign over here it says no molestar a los cocodrilos.
I feel like you should be more worried about if you bother the crocodiles they might molestar you.
And he was saying these crocodiles are in the laguna right now but they can cross the beach and go
out into the ocean. And I remember when we were in Puerto Escondido surfers would say that they would
sometimes when they would be surfing they would see a crocodile like right under them out in the
ocean which seems a little scary.
And they have a little souvenir shop right here
and they give you a little break if you want a coconut or something cold to drink.
And it's so funny when you travel like the different stuff that you tend to drink. Like normally at home I don't drink soda
but here fresca and fanta is so popular and there's something
about drinking out of a glass bottle that is just so refreshing.
And fresca I think is like the most underrated soda, who's with me?
Oh what's this?
Yeah Adam sneakily ordered some sopes which are my favorite!
What kind of meat is that?
That is some fresh chorizo. It looks so good! Very excited.
Those are so good.
We are ducking under branches it is time to get on that boat and head back to Mazunte.
And remember to keep your hands inside the boat at all times
- only if you want to keep them!
I don't know if you can hear it but the waves are just crashing and crashing.
It's been such a beautiful soundtrack to this day out here.
Yeah right over there is the beach and
then the ocean is just beyond it.
We're backing into our parking spot.
Well that tour was absolutely incredible. Right now we're gonna head back, hop on our bike
and head to sunset to at Punta Cometa which is supposed to be..
Adam said he read it is the most beautiful sunset spot in all of Oaxaca.
I mean I guess we'll find out together. We haven't been there yet. Let's go!
And another reason to bring your own toilet paper.
When a bird poops on your seat. I'm watching you birds!
If you don't have your own set of wheels to get here we just asked it cost 100 pesos or five us dollars
to come here and when you're coming back we've seen a couple taxis right out here
so there should be one waiting for you and if not i'm sure they could call one.
Alright let's head back to town!
Look at this guy, he's selling some tables.
And we are turning right to go up that hill for sunset.
A lot of traffic, but you know on a scooter you can bypass
a lot of this which is really nice.
Oh man and the temperature is so nice right now
as you can see this is my second shirt today because I got so sweaty.
And right here is the turn to go up to Punta Cometa. It is pretty steep hopefully we can make it.
And we got front row motorbike parking!
As you can see we have changed our footwear.
We heard this hike can be a little like slippery.
Maybe tough on your tootsies.
So just to be safe. And right down here they are selling some nieves,
helados, cocos, agua fria.
So if you need something to eat or drink or a snack they gotcha! I love it.
There was a guy there telling people they couldn't bring any alcohol into this place. It is a natural reserve we just
saw a sign so they want to keep it as pristine as possible.
When you get to this point the trail is going to split and on the left is the principal route that's going to take you to Punta Cometa
where we want to go now and I believe to the right takes you down to the beach. Let's keep heading up!
When you're in here it honestly doesn't even feel like you're hiking by the ocean.
It feels like you're back in the woods somewhere but you can hear you know the waves crashing onto the beach.
It's pretty special.
We're starting to descend. Be careful there is a sign right here that says peligroso so danger
it can be it looks like it can be a little slippery there's some loose rocks.
Just keep your eyes open. Yeah.
Wow and it's just starting to open up here.
You can see the ocean.
The waves coming in over here.
Oh and that sun streaming through, wow!
And it looks like everyone hikes down here and they're going over that ridge over to the viewpoint
on the other side of this. Let's go check it out!
This is absolutely gorgeous. I feel like it looks like something you'd find in Hawaii or something or in Indonesia.
It's Mexico!
Like we tell you, Mexico is so diverse.
So much beauty, raw beauty. Hi Adam.
I'm gonna go down here and see what's on the other side.
Maybe it's the Playa Cometa, the beach here.
Oh yeah oh that's so cool!
Alright well let's continue up to the point!
Before we head up and witness this incredible sunset we want to give a special shout out to our new patrons!

There are a bunch of people over there on the ridge.
This is absolutely stunning.
So impressive. I'm so glad you decided to stick with us to see this sunset.
And I totally understand the hype of this place.
It's absolutely gorgeous. A wonderful spot to end your day.
It's just... it's perfect!
And typical me I was looking at Adam so we could watch it go down together since he's way over there.
And I missed it.
I miss it all the time but it's okay i think it's like something that's just like..
oh well you're just gonna have to watch me tomorrow!
So here we go, we're coming back tomorrow!
And unfortunately this is where we are going to have to say goodbye to you lovely people

I mean let's never say never who knows.
Okay.
Alright. We'll see you, next time. Adios!
