The eruption in the Sunuka crater chains in the Reykjanes Peninsula of Iceland,
it started with a small spike, like a tiny needle. You can see it here, I'll mark it for you.
And that spike was the tremors that actually made the lava flow and break through the surface
and erupt. The rest of the tremors you see, I marked them here, they are what I have called
caterpillar effect. These are the machinery that non-stop at the moment are working on the
area of the Blue Lagoon and the Swarzenegger geothermal power plant, because the entire
car park of the Blue Lagoon, which is adjacent to Swarzenegger power plant, is now overwhelmed
by the lava, it's covered. Only a few lampposts probably standing out or a sign like this,
what you see. And beyond that, it's cold in the whole peninsula, we don't have much earthquakes,
just a few here and there. The land has actually subsided, the uplift of the land swelling up of
the ground has subsided. The land also has shrunk east-west and north-south. This is due to the
actual disengagement, again, of the plate boundaries. It's almost like a pimple losing
its puffs and then falling down. And this is like the hacksaw, so in a way, when the fault lines
open up, the lava comes out, then they immediately close down slightly. They come back, bounce back.
At the moment, we have three main points, three main features that the lava is erupting. Two of
them are most active. The lava is flowing toward the west, of course, and slightly toward the north.
I'll mark these three points, you can see that. And the flow as it toward the west, and a small
flow also toward the north. The westward is the one which covered the Blue Lagoon. And when you
look at it, you can see clearly that the flow of the lava is toward the downhill, toward the west.
These are the two groups of the vents which are forming craters at the moment. I have given them
individual names, and let me just take a still image. This is the first one, it's twin to the
left, there are two vents, and tridents, three vents to the right. These are the main ones that
are contributing to this eruption at the moment. This is the update I can add to this. The eruption
sees a stabilized and normal flow now.
