In today's video, we see a mermaid sighting recorded in a documentary, and researchers
trying to keep their existence under wraps, but first let's have a look at one that
needed our help.
10. Tangled Mermaid
In India, several men came upon the surprise of their lives. A woman was on Mangalore beach
struggling against garbage she was entangled in. A lady on the beach late at night wasn't
the surprising part though. It's her legs, or lack thereof in this situation. Instead
of legs, the lady had her lower half covered in fish scales. It's exactly what you think,
she's a mermaid. And like her other water friends, she was having trouble with everyone's
trash. She was probably stranded there for a while, as she could be seen and heard growing
even as the young men tried to rescue her. But though I said all that, no one needs to
worry, it's all an act. The story isn't made up, the whole thing did happen, just
that an actress was involved. This viral incident is part of an awareness video on sea conservation.
Oh, and it was all shot in Sri Lanka. When you watch the whole video in full, the woman
eventually throws mud at the camera. The screen then changes to messages about conserving
the ocean and the consequences of throwing garbage into it.
9. Israel Mermaid
In 2013, two tourists captured something amazing on camera. Instead of getting footage of what
they initially believed to be a seal resting on the rocks at the beach below, they actually
recorded a video of a resting mermaid. As the camera zooms in, the mermaid turns around,
sensing the strangers, and begins quickly scurrying away and diving into the water.
Those don't look like flippers, do they? Those really resembled arms. The pair was
amazed and unsure what to think about their surprise discovery. And you know what? It
seems Israel took them seriously. The local government in Kiryat Yam, Israel has offered
$1 million reward to anyone who can provide undeniable video evidence of mermaids existing
on their shores. This garnered the people's interest, with some claiming to have had encounters.
For now, though, nobody has been able to claim the reward.
8. Bizarre Mermaid
You know something's weird when scientists are involved. Japanese researchers are examining
an odd mermaid mummy that has been stumping experts for centuries. The mermaid mummy,
about 300 years old or older, apparently has the body of a monkey with a suspiciously human-like
face and a lower body of a fish. If apes are to humans, then surely this mummy must be some
ancient predecessor to mermaids, no? This creature has been kept at the Enjuin Temple at Asakuchi
for years and has served as an object of worship. Now, scientists from the Kurashiki University of
Science and the Arts have decided to scientifically analyze the mummy for the first time, in hopes of
learning more about the creature and its origins. The mummy underwent a CT scan and is being
prepared for DNA analysis. Disturbingly, the creature's face is warped in a perpetual scream,
as though it was attacked in its final moments. An old note claimed that the mermaid was caught
in a fishing net off Shikoku between 1736 and 1741.
7. Mermaid Hand
Were you tuned into Animal Planet about a decade ago? If not, you missed out on something
spectacular. In Mermaids, The New Evidence, biologist Dr. Paul Robertson went to the station
to show the world never-before-seen footage of the mythical creature swimming in the depths of the
Greenland Sea. You may have heard about it since Twitter erupted with posts about the show.
But in case you missed it, here, let's watch it together.
See those scientists on the submarine? They're about to be spooked and surprised all in one.
That right there that slammed its hand against the glass was a mermaid.
You don't necessarily see her face, but no one can deny those clearly-defined,
webbed, human-like hands. What other creature would have a feature like that if not a mermaid?
Still, don't be fooled. As compelling as Mermaids The New Evidence was,
it's all a hoax. And by that, I mean the show is a mockumentary. Everyone involved was a paid actor.
If you fell for it, though, don't feel bad. Tons of watchers thought it was real, too.
6. South Africa Mermaid
As with all things unbelievable, a mermaid sighting in Kenya has divided the internet.
The video, which has millions of views, had everyone who saw it talking,
discussing whether or not the world finally has proof that mermaids do indeed exist.
The footage shows a bunch of beachgoers huddled around a washed-up creature,
which plenty claim to be a mermaid. Upon inspection, it does appear that way.
The young girl's body was human until her waist, and from there,
it changed to a massive lower, fish-like body. Shockingly, the mermaid's fins and
tail were moving, contrasting the lifeless upper body of the mythical creature.
Still, despite this evidence, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration state
that no evidence of mermaids exists today. In fact, there's no evidence at all that could
undeniably show mermaids existed millennia ago, either. Because of that, most of the comments
under the video expressed skepticism, and went as far as to examine whether the footage resulted.
Honestly, it is probably digitally altered, as some notice that textures begin getting
lost near her arms. At one point, her fingers disappear too.
5. Bloodthirsty Mermaid
Valerie Ennis, a 59-year-old Linstead resident, was killed after a minibus she was in collided
with a Toyota Fielder travelling in the opposite direction. Now, I know you're all wondering what
the connection of this is to mermaids. It's because residents believe that by the bridge
lives a bloodthirsty mermaid. Even Daniel Gale, a man who has been diving and fishing for years,
said that in that particular river comes a season where the supernatural entity causes accidents to
occur. It sounds like hearsay, or maybe even a coping mechanism for people affected by the
ongoing tragedies. But then you see videos like this, and you can't doubt them at some point.
One video is at the bridge at which accidents happen. The second video is still in Jamaica,
but in the sea. Watching those, can you still doubt that mermaids exist when you see the head
bobbing in the water? Or that creature they pulled out and brought to shore by the authorities,
no less? If anything, Jamaica makes us question whether mermaids are real and within our midst.
4. Captured Mermaid
These men were out on the rough seas on their trawler when something unexpected happened.
They realized that even though their net was full of fish, it was much heavier than usual.
It didn't take long to realize why, though, because as soon as they lifted the net high enough,
a webbed hand reached out to the nearest man on the left. You guessed it,
they had accidentally caught a mermaid. Of course, as much as it's a fantastic discovery,
the encounter clearly spooked the men as they sent the mermaid right back into the ocean.
And by that, I mean they let go of their entire net. Some will presume that it's an edited video,
or that the anglers accidentally fished up a deep-sea swimmer or a diver,
and neither presumptions are correct, to a degree. It's a fake sighting. It's not an actual mermaid,
everything was staged. This clip was to help hype up the animal planet mockumentary we mentioned
earlier. If anything, I wonder if the actress involved is alright after the guys let her free
fall. Time for today's best pick. Seems like Jack Sparrow got one astounding catch. But really,
like other things, this one's an act too. Still, this woman is known as the real-life mermaid
despite not actually having a fin. Why? Find out next.
3. Mermaid Melissa
Melissa Dawn is different from most activists. For one, she has a whole wardrobe of glittery
fishtail costumes. And second, she's known as the real-life mermaid. Melissa works with charities,
including Florida Fish, as their mascot, to help raise awareness about the decline of
aquatic life and coral reefs, and the damage we're doing our bodies of water.
When asked why she took this route in activism specifically, she says that her choice to be a
mermaid was to bridge the gap between her being human and her deep connection with the ocean.
She passionately shares too that she wanted to be the voice for the voiceless marine mammals,
and that by being a performer, she can effectively communicate these things to her audience.
As for how she got to this point, Melissa says in an interview that she was very aware of ocean
pollution since she was a young girl. While walking down the beach, she remembers trash,
fishing lines, and plastics washed ashore, which made her sad.
Especially when she found a dead and tangled sea creature on the sand.
2. Minnesota Mermaid
A video of a mermaid being taken by researchers spread on YouTube like wildfire. It garnered
over 670,000 views, more than most of the mermaid sightings on this list. The cameraman's true
identity is still unknown, though. On the footage, he referred to himself as Mackie.
What we do know is that this was taken in Minnesota, as Mackie was there visiting
relatives. What Mackie was doing by the riverside when this took place, we don't know,
especially since the park was cleared and devoid of people when big vehicles arrived
with people in hazmat suits. Supposedly, he was able to hide to capture this film,
wherein two of these hazmat men pulled a creature, one with a green tail, out of the lake.
He shared this footage because he wants us to believe that mermaids do exist.
Well, it certainly received mixed views. Some people are skeptical,
while others believe it's authentic. It's likely the former, though. Why? Because one commenter
noticed that the tail looks like one of the costumes she sells at a retail store.
That and the hazmat suits look like full-bodied raincoats.
1. Underwater Encounter
What would you do if you came across a mermaid while diving underwater?
You'd take a camera out and take video evidence, of course, just like this man did.
Apparently, the story behind this encounter goes something like this.
A man from a local village notices that every day as the sun is about to set,
a creature comes close to shore. Curious, he went diving one day with an underwater camera in hand
to spot whatever it was that paid daily visits to the village shore. Soon he met her, and he
was astounded. Surprisingly, he was able to capture her on footage without her knowing,
that or she just let him be. As you can see, the mermaid was going about her business,
swimming underwater with her fish friends. But how is that possible?
Likely, like most things on this list, it's probably a video made for clicks.
Perhaps even the backstory was made up by the original poster. Plus, I doubt any creature
wouldn't notice a camera so close that can take a shot of them clearly, or not approach it out
of curiosity.
