How to restore a dead bonsai/Juniper- Make it look alive again!

What's going on guys welcome back to the channel Life of Bonsai. As you can see I have a dead Johnny Purple Converse Nana. Long story short I got this from an action uh when the guy was about to ship the tree he mentioned that there was some yellowing and discoloration on the um on the foliage he said I can still ship it to you you don't have to pay me anything maybe you'll make it survive so yeah I was like yeah let's let's do it and he uh he ended up shipping it to me so uh pretty much what happened it did not survive um I tried to keep it as you know healthy as I could but it it did not make it it was pretty much a goner once the foliage on this juniper starts turning yellow or you know discoloration of the tips that means the tree is already dying so couldn't save it but I'm gonna show you what to do because I don't want to throw it away as you can see it's just a beautiful beautiful tree nice pot and yeah let's go ahead and work on it I'm gonna spray paint it I'll show you what I'll use pretty much what I'll be using uh it's called Renew I got this off Amazon it's um pretty much like a spray paint for shrubs and um you know it kind of like is this like resistant to like water for what it says uh but whatever so we're gonna test it out see how it works um what I'll do since the foliage is already dead so I just want to like make it look like it's still alive and I'm gonna keep this indoors actually if my cats decide to let me have it anyways but I'm gonna keep this indoors and no need to water just making sure it doesn't fall or anything like that but yeah I mean I don't want to throw it away because as you can see it's really it's really nice I mean look at that you know movement so that's definitely definitely gonna be sitting on my desk and this is a way of having it without having to worry about it dying um but yeah let's get to it first thing that I want to do I'm gonna remove some of those branches this one I don't really have to worry about choosing the right branch or the right one so you can see it's pretty dry um so yeah I'll be I'll be taking this off and I just got an idea right here so let me remove this branch right here so I'll be creating this as dead wood actually so you can see this right here I'm gonna peel all the uh part of this I'm gonna create this as some dead wood and uh I'm also gonna do some uh I think it's called Ying and Shari something like that I'll I'll rewrite it on that on the video but uh pretty much it's some type of like dead wood going all across and up so that's what I'll do here and yep so the front is definitely gonna be this right here so if I get rid of this guy so right there the tree is gonna be this right here so let's make that shot I'm actually gonna get some bigger uh turning tools here because these branches are thicker so I'll be back okay and I just got my bigger ones right here because some of the branches there was one that was giving me some trouble um this piece right here but pretty much that's what that's what I'll be doing now to create that dead wood I'm just gonna take these little ones off just to have this branch cleaned up this is pretty dry this is this thing's been dead for a while now I feel bad for it but um you know that's that's part of bonsai sometimes uh some of the trees are just you know they're not gonna make it even the greatest bonsai masters they they still they still have trees that die on them and you know there's nothing that you can do sometimes but yeah I think it's getting pretty good shape um this is gonna be the front right here so as I create this dead wood right here um I think I want to reduce a little bit of this right here let's see what happens sorry about that ambulance sounds outside yeah you see this is nice shape right here move this we'll clean up the little cut after that as you can see it's getting nice shape overall um I think I think I'll get rid of this branch right here because this just doesn't add up and I can't really wire it at the moment because this thing is you know pretty toast so once I add wires it'll it'll break real easy so I'm not trying to not trying to break it I'm just trying to make it look decent and alive again trouble I don't want to mess with this right here because it's pretty fragile right now um when it comes to like moving it and shaking it those things fall real quick so I think I'm just gonna leave this right here because I don't really want to mess with it farther I might take it off but um what I'll be using now I have this little little tool um it's like a little blade so I'll be using this thing right now this is gonna help me get that bark off of course there's some other bonsai tools but I don't really want to use them with this thing especially since this thing is is dead so um later I'll be adding more kind of like white paint so it can look more more realistic more like an actual dead wood but yeah I'm just gonna peel this and I'll be back so far what I got might give some uh additional touches but uh it's a little hard to work with this thing because again it's not alive anymore so all this starts coming off feeling I was just wanting to do just one little thing here but it comes off but not bad not too bad let's spray paint it it is so becoming alive oh yeah we gotta cover that area back there all right so this is after the spray paint um I tried doing a little bit of paint here I might scrape that off I can still use a knife and scrape it off I don't know I might keep it but as you can see I don't want to go too too crazy on the paint um because I don't want it to be like on the inside branches uh there's a little bit of still like that I need to to get but I think it looks a little more natural with that somewhat yellowish tint to it um but yeah I mean this would be the back side and just to complete the um and yeah I did get something a little under but won't matter this is the back side um this is going to be the front right there it's gonna be my front and just to complement the looks um I have some uh like fake-ish I think is dead uh moss here so I'll be adding it on there and um I'll be back thank you so much for watching really appreciate you sticking to the end of the video please subscribe share and
