In this video, we're going to be going over how to make cold and hot matcha lattes at home
using only milk, water, and matcha.
Let's get into it.
Starting with our cold matcha latte.
大いか。
出来たての抹茶をアメリカで。
This is called a karakuchi chawan.
You don't need this.
You can use any bowl.
But this is nice because it has a spout that lets us pour it out.
Next, let's sift in 2 grams of matcha.
This is the Oika Barista Matcha.
It's made specifically for matcha lattes.
It's really important to sift.
High quality matcha that's made in a stone mill, like these over here,
tend to clump because of static electricity.
So sifting it helps break it apart.
Next, let's put in hot but not boiling water.
We're going to do about 30 grams.
Perfect. We're done with the scale.
Alright, let's take our whisk and make sure that it's wet.
I'll dip it in some water.
There. Now the whisk is ready.
In terms of whisking,
first, we're going to break up all the clumps and get it all incorporated.
I'm gently scraping the bottom of the bowl and the sides
just to make sure that everything is incorporated into the water.
Then, we'll whisk it back and forth without scraping the bottom of the bowl.
Alright, that is ready.
Let's go ahead and set this aside.
We'll get our glass in place.
If you want to add sweetener to your matcha latte,
now would be the time.
Just about 10 grams of simple syrup.
Go ahead and put our ice in.
And let's go ahead and put our oat milk in.
You can use any milk, but oat milk is my favorite.
This is a 12-ounce cup, so we're going to fill it,
leaving a little bit of room at the top for our matcha.
This is a very simple matcha latte, exactly how I like it.
We're going to let the matcha speak for itself,
which is great because this matcha is fresh ground,
which all matcha from Oika is.
Now we're going to just pour it on top.
See that nice separation?
The reason that happens is because the oat milk is a little bit sweeter,
so it sinks to the bottom and the matcha stays on top.
And there we go, our simple matcha latte.
Let's give it a stir and then we'll taste it.
Oh, so clean and clear.
This one has no sweetener, and trust me, it doesn't need it.
When you have fresh ground matcha, it works perfectly as is.
Let's move on and try a hot matcha latte.
Hot matcha latte is going to start off pretty much the same.
We're going to take 2 grams of barista matcha.
Barista matcha from Oika is made specifically for matcha lattes and other mixed drinks.
So we'll do 2 grams, we sift it in just like before.
Next, our hot water.
We don't want boiling. Let's go for around 75 degrees Celsius.
And we're going to do 30 grams, or 30 milliliters of water.
Let's make sure that our whisk is already nice and wet.
If not, just go ahead and dip it in hot water.
Get rid of our scale, we don't need that anymore.
Go ahead and brush the sides and bottom of the bowl.
We're not whisking here, what we're doing is just incorporating everything into the water.
That way there's no big clumps.
You can use a little bit of force, not too much. You don't want to break any of the prongs.
Once it all comes together, we're going to whisk without scraping the bottom of the bowl.
Just to get everything frothed up.
Perfect. Let's go ahead and move this out of the way.
Time for our milk. I'm doing oat milk, but you can do any milk you want.
And we're going to put in...
I put in about 200 milliliters of oat milk.
Now to be fair, I do have a fairly special machine here for steaming milk, but you don't need to use this.
You can really use any milk frother that you have at home.
Here is the mug we're going to be using. I'll go ahead and pour our matcha in.
I also have a little bit of simple syrup that I added to the bottom of the cup here.
Alright, so what we're going to do is first pour in our oat milk.
Get it all mixed up.
Then, I'm going to try to make a very simple heart.
There we go. Nothing too fancy, but it is very beautiful.
And I can't wait to try it. Let's give it a shot.
Oh man, look at this.
This looks so, so good.
Mmm.
The best part about making these videos is I get to make these drinks, and then I get to drink these drinks.
Let's go ahead and try. First, I'm going to start with the hot matcha latte, which is a favorite of mine.
Good in the winter, but also good all year round.
And pretty cheap to make. Just some fresh ground matcha powder and any milk you like.
And they sell frothers. You don't have to use a fancy one like here, but they sell them on Amazon for like $30 for a milk foaming stick or even just a frothing machine.
There's really nothing more comforting than a hot matcha latte.
It's like being hugged from the inside.
I love hot matcha lattes.
Similar to a coffee latte, but not quite as roasty and smoky.
It's more bright. It's more herbal.
It tastes like it has more life, to me anyway.
And also, unlike coffee, you don't get those annoying crashes or spikes.
It's very smooth and rounded.
It gives you a feeling of calm, but also alertness.
Okay. Now, I've already tasted the cold matcha latte, the ice matcha latte, but we'll do it again here.
Just to get that stir in, which looks so beautiful.
So refreshing.
You can see just how easy it is to make a hot or cold matcha latte at home.
You don't need fancy tools. Yes, I used a whisk, a simple whisk, and a bowl.
But frankly, you can even just take the same proportions of matcha to water, which I showed you, and put it into a mason jar or a shaker bottle and shake it and put it on top.
That works just as well.
Also, in both of these drinks, we can just substitute the oat milk and use water.
And there you have an Americano, which is a little bit less caloric, I guess, a little bit more intense in flavor, but quite, quite nice as well.

One of the things that Oika does that's very special is we grind matcha fresh right here in the United States.
Just like coffee, you want to have your matcha immediately after it's been ground.
And all our online orders for our barista matcha are ground fresh to order along with clear labeling and mill dates.
