Hello everyone. My name is Tomo. Today's kanji is dai. This kanji means big.
This is originally coming from the person who is spreading his both arms, as you can see.
This is the right stroke order.
Onyomi, dai.
Onyomi, ookii.
Bushu, is, dai.
This whole kanji itself can be bushu.
Let's see some examples.
Ookii kuruma means big car.
Watashi wa ookii kuruma ga suki desu.
means I like big birds.
Suki means like.
And if we add dai in front of suki, it means like a lot.
Kandai means having a big heart.
Kandai na hito means the person who is thoughtful, does not blame, generous, big hearted, and can forgive someone.
Kare wa kandai na hito desu.
means he is a generous person.
Itai means great and informal.
Anata wa itai desu.
means you are great.
Daitai means mostly or approximately.
Rikai suru means understand.
Daitai rikai dekita.
means I could understand mostly.
Daitai nihyaku doru hodo deshita.
means it was about $200.
Daitai also can mean originally.
In this meaning, it is used with a negative emotion such as to blame someone.
In this case, it can be replaced with somosomo or motowa to ieba.
All of them mean originally.
Daitai aitsu ga waruin da yo.
He or she is the cause of the problem.
This is a very casual form, so
Daitai ano hito ga waruin desu yo.
This is more formal.
Utsuwa ga ookii.
Utsuwa means container or caliber.
Utsuwa ga ookii can be the same with kandai.
Kare wa utsuwa ga ookii.
means he is very tolerant or he is a man of high caliber.
OK. That's it for today's lesson.
