I can't see any rabbits.
Oh, such a shame.
I mean, there's quite a few down here.
Everywhere.
Oh, my God.
I'm literally in a pool right now.
That's right.
Bunny Island, just off the coast of Japan near Hiroshima,
is a small island called Okunoshima.
This island is completely overrun by hundreds of wild rabbits.
Nobody really knows how the rabbits got here,
although there is speculation
And we can believe it because they really do like to mate all the time.
I'm pretty sure she did not consent to that.
This was day five on our regional trip across Japan,
and it is safe to say that our excitement levels
were through the roof to visit this tiny island.
But first, we need to make our way from Himeji.
Alex is having to sit on the actual suitcase
because it's getting a little bit full.
So this morning, we are on our way to Onomichi.
You look lovely, darling.
So the town of Onomichi is about an hour's train journey
away from where we are in Himeji.
Quick, quick, quick, quick, quick, quick.
Thank you.
All that keeps us apart from this train is this slow escalator.
We have to get a bullet train to Mihara.
I have got sweat on just a little bit.
Then change and get another train to Onomichi.
And because we are tight on days,
we are going to quickly dump off our bags at the hotel,
get a train back to Mihara, change and then get another train
to Tadano-Umi station and then try and catch a ferry from there.
I've got to walk four minutes and try and catch the ferry that leaves in the port.
In six minutes.
Across to...
Bunny Island.
Oh, my goodness.
We've been excited for this island for so long.
So I can see the ferry pulling in now.
But we've got to get our tickets as well.
Come on.
We can do it.
We're not the only ones.
There it is.
Konnichiwa.
Do you want a ticket?
Yes, please have it.
OK.
Arigatou.
We made it.
What did you do?
I think we can walk now.
But like always, making a ferry by the skin of your teeth comes at a sacrifice.
Let's rewind and slow it down.
Little did we know the small shop on the port where you purchase
ferry tickets is the last and only place to purchase rabbit food.
Yep.
You can't even buy food on the island for the rabbits.
We learnt this the hard way.
If you do want to feed them, make sure you buy it in advance
before you get on the ferry.
OK, let's get back to the vlog.
We've literally just stepped off the ferry and all these bunnies are everywhere.
Hello, little bunny.
They're just chilling.
Oh, my God, they're everywhere.
I don't think
there's too many bunnies here.
Yet again, James's luck is on our side.
Well, I may say luck, but he says it's karma.
He kindly offered to take pictures of this guy with all the rabbits
since he was by himself.
In return, the guy noticed that we didn't have anything to feed the bunnies with,
and he very generously gave us a bag of rabbit food and cabbage.
What a legend.
So has Bunny Island met every expectation that you had of this place?
Bunny Island is the best place on Earth.
I'm so happy right now.
There are so many bunnies.
Alex, the bunny boiler.
Hello.
So we are taking a walk around Bunny Island.
We thought it was very small.
Actually, it's not quite as small as we thought it was.
It's actually a lot bigger than we thought it was.
But we are taking a wander.
There are bunnies everywhere.
They are extremely friendly.
They run up to you.
I think they see humans as food.
So there are a few things to remember when you are here on Bunny Island.
On the website, it does say that don't hold the bunnies.
Make sure you feed the bunnies only rabbit food.
So don't be feeding it crisps or sweets.
Obviously, there's also a note on the website that says,
remember not to take any bunnies home with you at the end of the day.
I mean, Alex has already stashed five in her backpack.
I can see them rustling around now.
It's very, very family friendly here.
I can feel them around me at the moment.
If you are in western Japan,
definitely make time to visit this island.
Hello.
We got a little bunny friend.
He's coming to say hi to the vlog.
Got some feed.
You've definitely got some friends now.
All right, careful wander.
It's funny because Japan's think of bright lights and city.
I never really think of beach and sea,
but the water is actually beautiful.
It's so clear.
Look at that landscape.
Look at these views.
I'm honestly so surprised at how quiet it is.
I thought there was going to be a lot more people than there are here.
The bunny ratio to people is definitely a lot higher.
It's like 100,000 to one.
And if you did decide to stay the night,
then you have a big resort on the island as well.
I can't imagine the room occupancy is ever full.
Had we have known, I would have been tempted to stay here for the night.
So inside the resort, they've also got a gift shop
where you can get some really cute souvenirs.
Like this little bunny rabbit.
Bunny.
How much is it?
Oh, 6.60.
Goodbye, Bannon, you can stay here.
Okay, how to order.
Choose from the English menu.
Done.
Let's give this a go.
Okay, so money goes in.
And then I want number four.
My ticket for number four.
And I want a curry rice, number seven.
And it's on my change.
I think it worked.
This is for you.
Thank you so much.
So, we've been waiting for about...
15 minutes for our food.
And I didn't realise that I had to take the ticket to the counter
and give it to them,
so they can put the order in.
I took the ticket from the machine and sat down,
thinking, yay, I managed to do it all by myself.
I didn't.
Failed.
And we're still hungry.
I've probably got to wait another 15 minutes for our food to come.
Udon noodle.
Curry ramen.
Good.
So, in terms of travel experiences that we've had around the world...
This is, like, top five.
This is awesome.
So, if you had any doubts about coming to Bunny Island,
I hope that this proves it's worth investing a day here,
or at least an afternoon.
Hello.
I'm going to need a shower tonight.
Hello.
To the train station.
A train station over to the ferry.
Prank.
Excuse me.
Stop it.
Oi.
Stop it.
Stop being so rude.
Is my hat okay?
Yeah, tuck your hair behind your ear.
Oh, shit, I've been recording the whole time.
