Hey folks, meet Galina, an artist and woodcarver, and her daughter Diana. Galina creates modern
household items, utensils and accessories from wood, blending style and functionality.
She skillfully integrates medieval Marie casting and wood carving techniques,
which she lovingly calls casting into wood. This results in contemporary products rich
in cultural heritage and the history of the ancient Marie people.
Money!
Besides her art, Galina loves tending her small garden. With a greenhouse on their property,
they enjoy fresh vegetables and herbs all year round, even with winter temperatures dropping to
minus 35 degrees Celsius. Flowers are some of the most incredible creations on earth.
Galina adores them, and they bring her immense joy and emotional fulfillment.
After spending some time outdoors, we were warmly invited to their table.
The delightful aroma of homemade pizza greeted us, and it was time to dig in.
Notice the tableware. Not just decorative, but practical too.
Galina crafts all these beautiful pieces by hand.
She creates modern household items, utensils and accessories from wood,
blending style and utility through the meticulous integration of medieval Marie casting and wood carving.
The result of this process is a beautiful work of art.
The rest of her craftsmanship is a contemporary collection infused with cultural significance
and the rich history of the ancient Marie people.
Here's what Galina shares about herself.
I come from an ordinary family. My dad worked as a driver, and my mom is a seamstress.
When my dad was younger, he used to carve scenes from fairy tales onto boards and tint them with ink.
His artwork beautifully decorated our home.
My mom and grandma instilled in me a deep appreciation for what we now call atmosphere and cosiness.
You know, napkins on the table, embroidery on towels,
and candles lit during celebrations or weekends when the whole family gathered together.
It was family and my education at the children's art school that laid the foundation for the work I do.
Galina learned the art of wood decoration from her husband, a talented designer and artist.
Our home furniture and design are primarily his creations, with my small contributions.
While we're still adding finishing touches, there's always something to do around the house,
says Galina modestly.
The decision to move from the city to the village was mutual.
We love living in our own home, on our land, walking on the grass, listening to the birds sing,
sitting on the porch with a cup of tea, and soaking in the beauty of nature.
Once we've set up a cozy atmosphere, there's plenty of space for work and creativity.
Feeling connected to the world, we're creating our own world and path.
Dear friends, unfortunately our time with Galina has come to an end.
I hope you've enjoyed getting to know this wonderful family.
If you'd like to see more of Galina in future episodes, please let us know in the comments below.
Now we're off to discover other hidden gems in this historic region.
Until next time!
The hustle and bustle of the city, all the noise and chaos.
I need to escape somewhere.
My friends tell me to head south, but I dream of the wilderness, the remote forests.
Serge wrote these words while already here on the mainland.
Serge spent a long time in the remote forests, in a cold and tough area.
He used to work for a surveying company.
It's been three years since Serge moved to the mainland.
His dream is almost complete, but his heart still longs for the north, calling him back.
Everything on his property is handmade.
During those cold evenings up north, he dreamed of his mini-farm.
And now it looks fantastic to me.
We made a short video and if you like it, we can make a full-length episode.
Goats, a cheese factory, a long cabin sauna with clay.
Everything looks so perfect.
It makes you want to grab a canvas and paint a picture to remember.
But Serge's favorite hobby is pigeons.
We arrived at a tricky time, because most of his pigeons are being kept elsewhere.
He has about 200 pigeons in total.
Check out his unique world and give us your feedback.
Maybe we'll do a full video about his craft and lifestyle.
