Ronald Reagan had a profound impact on Dennis, helping him recognize where he differed from the Democratic Party—though he held some fairly "liberal" values. This one sentence completely changed Dennis’s outlook and understanding of the evil that took place in the 20th century.

Ronald Reagan actually had a had a
profound impact on me
directly uh I was a
Democrat uh uh I was registered as a
Democrat until the the Reagan
presidency and and he caused me uh to
a know why I I differed with the
Democratic party substantially and and
with even with
liberalism although I hold most liberal
values to this day but liberals don't
hold liberal values they tend to hold
leftist values which they have nothing
in common but he said something this is
actually it's very relevant to Prager
youu I'll tell you
why he said something in one sentence
that changed my
outlook and that's when I I left the
Democratic party for
good and he said government
what does it just say government is not
the
solution it is the
problem I think that's more or less what
he
said and it it hit me like a
thunderbolt because I realized oh my God
is that
true I mean he didn't mean it so much
this way he was talking about big
government America and I'll come back to
that or in any country
but I realized because I have been
obsessed with good and evil all of my
life and the amount of evil in the 20th
century 100 million non-combatants
killed billions enslaved in totalitarian
regimes and it was all done by big
governments big government makes a lot
of evil possible
I know liberals and leftists all think
big government is such a beautiful
thing but it's not it's factually not a
beautiful thing now of course we need
government I I don't know anyone who
denies that except an anarchist and I
never met a real
Anarchist but big government means a lot
of power in the hands of a few
people and I don't trust people with a
lot of power
so uh Reagan loved America and he
radiated an optimism about the
country and why did I say that this is
relevant to Prager youu I'm often asked
we're often asked you think you could
change somebody's mind in five minutes
because all our videos are five
minutes and I think
hey my life was changed in one sentence
not five
minutes and that makes perfect sense
when you hear an idea and if you
actually reflect on it and it makes
sense yeah that's going to in that's
going to affect you you don't even need
five minutes
