So hey gardeners, so I happen to be across the street from a project that we finished
um gosh months and months ago and I know we did a video on it a while back but I um I'm over here
checking on things while they're out of the state and I thought gosh let me just pull this camera
out and just do a quick little walk around and share it with you guys because as soon as I walked
back here it made me smile so I thought I would do a quick video tour kind of a little update.
I'll be sure to link the full video in the description so that way you guys or link it
somewhere here on the screen so that way if you guys want to know more about these plants and
trees that you're going to see here in this video then definitely check out that video but this is
months later things have really grown in even though we've had two pretty significant um hurricanes
things are just looking lush and tropical so we're in Palm Beach Florida today a little further south
than I normally go but my clients have just been so fabulous to work with and I just I just love
popping in over this area so we were able to accomplish a beautiful backyard resort for them
and it's growing in lovely so I'm taking my true gardener friends and family along to just do a
little quick you know kind of happy kind of Saturday walk through so I hope you guys enjoy
it I feel like I should whisper because I guess we're out here just touring the garden by ourself
um but I thought um I thought you guys might enjoy it and appreciate it so I'm just gonna do a quick
walk around and and share the updates with you guys so I will see you in the very next video
here we are you guys this is the driveway walkway leading to the back side section you may remember
this from the previous video I love that we're I feel like it's palm tree alley here like we're
walking up underneath the palm trees to come up to the backyard space it's just so awesome I love
how shiny and gorgeous these tree jasmines are looking just so stunning right there by themselves
really really anchoring that side yard section and then you come up underneath the palm trees
as you enter the space oh my goodness I just every time I come back here I like sigh this is just so
nice so relaxing we're walking up underneath the palms we've got a triple foxtail palm on the left
and a nice chunky single foxtail on the right and then this bed has several foxtails kind of
staggered in here I'm sorry I know my camera work is nowhere nearly as good as Bryce's
we've got some backing of some gorgeous royal palms you would not know that these trees and
plants took a bit of a beating from those storms but they have done so well just look how beautiful
and gorgeous these plants how nice and compact I am so giving John and Claudia
an A for keeping things just stunning despite Florida weather I hope I'm not going too fast
for you guys look at that leaf color on that golden dew for such a typical basic plant I
just think it offers such a gorgeous look when it's paired with something so dark like the
isotonic crotons to the left and the mango crotons on the right so you can kind of see
my pattern and how it works we go from dark to light to dark to light I've got this as a
centerpiece and then we've got a nice clustering of golden sedum at the bottom and this little
just clean little bed just works so nicely in this spot and then Claudia's got her lovely orchids here
and that tree jasmine to the back is just a nice backdrop you can see you got a little bit
a little bit of leaning from the storm but look at that just so pretty and we have a very similar
oops sorry you guys let's my camera work for you very similar palm tree grouping there and then
the backdrop to the pergola those king alexanders on either side of the pergola are just stunning
kind of giving us some nice flanking that coconut palm that was so young when we put it in look at
how well it's doing it's really anchoring that corner the only thing that hasn't kind of come
up yet are those Brazilian red cloaks I cannot wait until they get eight nine foot tall and
bloom that bright red flower color they're blooming the last time I was here but I'm not
seeing any color on them right now of course we're in late November so they're okay it's okay not to
bloom I guess little pops of lights and darts around this plant grouping you kind of see how
we've have a nice combination of light and dark so when you guys are doing your planting kind of
just keep that in mind because I feel like that gives us just so much showmanship in the garden
you know like we've got the dark ice tone crotons there and then we've got sloppy painters going here
which brighten that up and then we go back to the Brazilian red cloaks there
and if they were in bloom they would offer brightness and darkness which is pretty phenomenal
and then down below we have the songs of India here to give us some brightness again and then
we go into the mammy crotons and then they're backed by the Sanchezia in the back they give
you that variegated yellow and green leaf which is I think just awesome and these right here this
plant grouping this whole combination this is these are things that you can get from your typical
big box store your nurseries your you know your local areas in Florida they're not anything major
I mean we got something as simple as green arboricola in the back so it's really it's just a
it's just a matter of clustering them with nice grouping clusters so you have a big impact of
color and then you can go with something like you know these magnificent crotons in the back that
are 15 gallons so some nice good size there and then we paired them on the bottom to kind of give
us a little division between color let's see if I can get that on the camera there color of the
mammy crotons to the Congo crotons there then to give us a division we've got some burl marks
there to kind of really really make make those colors pop and not overtake one another hopefully
this gives a better better angle and they just kind of do a little swath in that middle those
burl marks do and then of course these gold mounds I know people look at gold mounds sometimes
and they're like ah they're really nothing to show you know they're not big or a lot of impact but
what they do offer is that bright spot and it almost like it it gives your eye that instant
place to rest so I think they're so important to the garden they're like that that awesomely
supportive friend that you need they're always there they're stable they make everybody else
really comfortable and happy and they definitely show help show off a dark plant around it so and
then of course we've got the ground cover of the liriope which is another just kind of perfect
companion to a plant grouping so but I think that that's what's going to be so exciting about the
getting the book out because Bryce and I are really really enjoying not just talking about
the plants and trees in the book but we're also mentioning you know companion plants because I
think that is so important in a Florida garden is being able to take this plant and saying okay
this plant is beautiful in its own right but pair it with this one this one this one and you're going
to really see how that pops and how those layers come together and I think that that's kind of what
sometimes gets missed when I see a lot of the the typical gardens that I walk through so being able
to see what works well together what stays where it's supposed to stay which is unusual for Florida
plants and then what is going to grow in beautifully and create that lush maybe buffer that
you're looking for so you kind of need the best of both worlds but hopefully hopefully it comes
across that way on the page that's our intention all right you guys so thank you so much for joining
me on this morning and I'm so glad to share this garden with you guys I'm so just so glad to share
this garden with with you know a whole group of people that I know appreciate it and you know
enjoy the love of plants and trees like I do I just feel like I get the best of both worlds in
that way so thank you so much hope you guys all have a fantastic holiday season and I will see
you in the next video take care
