Hello everyone.
Welcome back to my channel.
My name's Kristen, and today I'm going to be sharing with you 10 ways to make your home
look more expensive.
Now, you know me, I'm all about decorating on a budget and really creating that designer
look for less.
So I'm sharing all of my decorating tricks so that you can create the same look in your
home as well.
If you enjoy watching and find this video helpful, make sure you give it a big thumbs
up and hit that like button.
And I want to give a huge thank you to Brooklinen for sponsoring today's video.
Let's go ahead and jump right into it.
Now, a decorating trick that I use in every single room is mixing old with new.
Old and new furniture, old and new decor, old and new lighting, and artwork.
You can mix old and new in so many different ways around your home to really bring life
into that space.
Sometimes when things are brand new, crisp, clean, pristine, they start to look a little
bit flat and lifeless.
You need those antique pieces, those items that you've had for years.
All of those pieces add character, life, and personality to your space that makes it look
designer.
When you look at designer interiors, they always look very collected and layered.
And there's so much personality in every single space, and that can be done with mixing old
and new items.
So if you're furnishing a space, if you're redecorating, think about heading to the thrift
store, heading to an antique shop to really bring that texture and personality into your
home.
You can find special finds on a budget, and it's the best way to decorate your home.
So add at least 20% old in your space.
That can be through small decor, little accent furniture pieces.
Thrift stores and antique shops are filled with quality pieces, so it really is the place
to find those high-end products on an extreme budget.
So mixing old and new creates this beautiful juxtaposition of pieces and textures that
makes such a huge difference.
Now a painting trick that goes such a long way and really makes your space look complete
and expensive and just extra luxurious is painting your ceiling the same color as your
walls.
If you're color drenching a space and you're painting your walls and your trim the same
color, go ahead and paint your ceiling as well, and it just gives you this engulfed
experience of color in that space that makes it look super high-end.
It's such a small detail, but it adds a huge impact to your space, and it's just a little
extra paint.
So if you're already painting your walls, your trim, and going the whole mile to transform
your space with paint, transform your ceiling as well, and you'll see such a huge difference.
This works really well if you have angled ceilings and you're not sure where to stop
your paint.
Go all the way and paint everything, and it really creates this seamless look.
I think this looks best in closed-off rooms, like powder rooms, offices, dens, all of those
cozy, intimate spaces that can really have an extreme moment with color and paint.
So this is something you can do over the weekend, especially if you already have the paint color.
Roll it on your ceiling and see what an impact it makes.
Now when you're thinking about the experience of your home and really what it feels like
to be in it, think about the comfort level.
I think the most expensive-looking and feeling spaces are the most comfortable, so add that
into your home in as many ways as you can.
I love going for a deep, plush sofa, something you can really sink into.
Is there room to put your feet up?
Do you want to add ottomans to your home so that you can add that element?
Do you have plush area rugs?
Are your towels soft?
And what is your bedding like?
I always like to have the most comfortable bedding, and that's why I love to use brooklinen
bedding.
I've been using brooklinen bedding for years, and it is super soft, especially their Luxateen
Hardcore Bundle.
I have had this in so many different colors now because I love the way it looks and feels
and lasts in my home.
I just got all of this beautiful new bedding in from brooklinen because I wanted to redo
the bedding in our guest room.
We've actually been sleeping in that guest room ever since we completed it because our
room is still in the works.
We still have a mattress on the floor.
It doesn't feel too beautiful right now.
So I got the Luxateen Hardcore Sheet Bundle.
This is my favorite way to buy sheets because as a bundle, you save so much more.
It comes with two pillowcases, a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, a duvet cover, and two extra
pillow covers.
I love that the fitted sheet actually has these small tags that say short side and long
side.
So you know exactly where to place the sheets.
It just makes it all super easy.
You just can't beat the feeling of fresh new sheets.
These are so light and airy, but they also have that tight weave to make them super luminous
and smooth.
Brooklinen has my favorite kind of pillowcase.
It's the kind that has the little flap here.
So it really tucks your pillow in all the way so you can't see it.
And I actually love to mix and match the colors.
You can do that with the Hardcore Sheet Bundle.
You can mix and match over 20 different colors and patterns, so you can really create your
own look and add to your bedding as the years go on.
The duvet is always my favorite part of the bed.
I love a thick, fluffy duvet.
And this cover could not be a better color.
This pebble is just stunning.
I like to do this double fold like this, because then you get this extra puffy look here.
And this is a king size duvet.
I like to size up on my duvet cover so that they hang extra long on the side.
And then to add some texture and a little bit more warmth and layering, I've got this
Creamy Vanilla Organic Cotton Quilt.
It's kind of cool what a quilt can do, because it takes the bed from looking sleek and chic
to cozy and comfortable.
So I'm really loving this extra layer in here.
It really helps break up all the colors as well and just add some more interest.
My favorite time of the day is the evening, getting into bed, snuggling with my cat Henry.
I know he appreciates good quality bedding as well.
So if you want to create that high-end look and that luxurious feeling, definitely check
out Brooklinen.
They have some of my favorite bedding I've ever used.
It is so buttery and smooth.
I know you guys would love it as well.

Now I always get questions about using family photography and personal photos around your
home.
I think it is ideal to have those personal items around your home to add that life, to
add that personal touch and to create conversation around your home.
But I think sometimes it can be a little messy looking if there's too many, maybe they're
all different colors and it just creates busyness.
If you want to add those personal pieces to your home, try doing them in black and white.
I think printing photos in black and white really creates this uniform look that makes
your home look high-end and expensive.
That small choice goes such a long way and you can really incorporate all those personal
pieces and make it look designer at the same time.
You can also choose frames that have a larger mat that also creates this luxurious layered
look.
So definitely do those two things to create the most high-end feeling with your personal
pieces.
Now when hanging curtains or drapes, I always talk about going as high and wide as you can
to make your room and your window look larger, but you can always do this with Roman shades
as well.
If you have a small window in your home, don't think that you need to restrict your Roman
shade size to the size of your window.
You can go larger and taller to extend the length of your walls and make your window
look larger.
This really expands the look of your room, which in turn is going to make it look more
expensive and luxurious for sure.
Small windows sometimes squeeze the look of your room, so you can extend the look of your
windows by installing those Roman shades higher than your window.
This would be an outside mount method and it would really extend the height of your
space.
Sometimes it's all about these little detail tricks that really make the biggest difference
in your home and make it look larger and more luxurious.
Now you know how much I love lamp lighting.
I always recommend having at least three lamps in every space to create this beautiful glow,
but always consider the scale of your lamp.
Large-scale lamps do look a lot more luxurious and high-end, so think about incorporating
those large-scale bases, large-scale lamp shades to really fill out the look of your
home.
If you have a large space, tall ceilings, and you're using small lamps, it's going
to shrink the size of your home and it's going to throw off the entire balance.
Your ceiling height should kind of coordinate with your lamp scale, so think about getting
a larger lamp.
I love doing this by shopping for lamps at thrift stores.
I have found some of my favorite lamps in my home at the thrift store.
If you find a beautiful large base and maybe it's the wrong color, it can be painted, and
if you find a beautiful large base and it comes with an ugly old lamp shade, you can
swap that out as well, and it's a very budget-friendly way of doing it.
This is especially important with those lamps beside the large furniture items, like your
bed or your sofa.
Your lamps should really coordinate with the size of that piece.
Now when you're decorating your home, think about creating small moments in almost every
direction you look.
I love going into a home and you can kind of look everywhere, and everywhere you look
there's something beautiful.
You can create the same thing in your home by creating these small moments.
Think about extending your decorating into corners, and really take a look at your space
and think about every single direction.
Your decorating can't be just pretty from one view.
It has to be pretty from all angles.
That's what really makes this beautiful engulfed feeling when you walk into your home, so don't
forget about those small spaces.
Corners, down hallways, your staircase, even closets.
You can really extend your styling all across your home.
Now when it comes to a furniture layout, I think one of the best things you can do is
actually pull your furniture off of your walls.
In every single room that I've been decorating in our new home, I've made sure that our furniture
is off of the walls.
This creates depth in your space.
It actually makes each room feel larger.
So we've brought our sofa just a bit off of the wall, about a foot, and that's really
helped anchor the center of our space.
This is easy to do with accent chairs and tables, but try and create a creative furniture
layout in your space that's going to give you that high-end look.
First thing people do when they get new furniture is shove it up against a wall, and I think
that's one of the biggest mistakes you can do because it creates this awkward opening
in your space.
Try bringing all of your soft furniture pieces, including your sofas and chairs, off of the
walls and see what a difference it makes.
It's something free that you can try today that could make the world of a difference
in your space.
All right, so that's it for today's video.
