Hi everyone, it's Jennifer from FiberFlux.
In this video, I will show you how to work the front post double crochet stitch.
This is a really easy stitch and it adds a lot of texture to your pieces.
If you flip it over, it also creates ribs in your crochet projects.
So I have here another swatch.
This is regular double crochet stitches that have been worked into this stitch.
As you can see, they're kind of stacked.
But when you work into the post, this is two rows and this is two rows.
So you can see it looks quite different.
This makes columns and like I said, these are kind of stacked.
And then if you flip it over, regular double crochet, like this one, is reversible.
It looks the same on the front and back.
But the front post double crochet has the rib on the one side and then the columns on
the other.
So I have here a swatch that I've started and my swatch, I begin with a row of double
crochet.
I made a chain, made some double crochet stitches, and then here I've worked a few of the front
post double crochet as you can see here.
So let me show you how it's done.
To make a front post double crochet stitch, I'm going to do it the same way you would
make a regular double crochet, but what changes is where you place your hook when you're working
the stitch.
This here in our double crochet stitch is called the post.
So we're going to be working around this post.
So to begin, we'll wrap yarn around hook, and then normally for a double crochet stitch,
you would work it into the stitch, but for the front post, we're going to go around the
whole thing just like that, wrap yarn around hook, and then bring it back through.
You'll now have three loops on your hook.
Wrap yarn around hook again, bring it through the first two loops.
Wrap yarn around hook, bring it through the last two loops.
As you can see, it makes this unending column just like that.
Let's do it one more time.
Wrap yarn around hook, insert the hook around the back of the post like that.
Wrap yarn around hook, bring it through the back again, three loops on your hook, yarn
around hook, bring it through the first two loops on the hook, yarn around hook, bring
it through the last two loops on your hook.
And that is how you work a front post double crochet stitch.
We'll do it one more time.
Yarn around hook, insert into the back, bring up a loop, yarn around hook, bring it through
the first two loops, yarn around hook, bring it through the last two loops.
If you've never done this before, you can do lots and lots of them to perfect the stitch
and to get your tension just right, just like that.
So that is how you make the front post double crochet stitch.
