The last episode ended in the sand.
After a few minutes of digging, we were able to free Frank and continue our trip.
We had learned three things.
First, when tongues of sand hide the road, it makes sense to first check out how big, high and steep they are.
Afterwards it's much more easy to make a good decision where to go.
Second, if you ride in sand, you have to stand on the bike.
And third, don't go too slow. Need for speed.
After we had taken note of these three things, driving in sand was basically no longer a problem.
After a few hours of gravel and sand roads, we reached a tamarack road again.
So we have 50 minutes to go to our next destination where we stay tonight.
In Tataouine, we went again to a gas station to fill our tanks.
Then we had dinner and spent a night in a nice AirBnB.
So now we are going to Casir Chilan, I think it's called.
It's a spa, an outdoor spa.
Where they were looking for oil and found hot water.
I like it.
Here now you know why you are living.
Because it's just amazing making an adventure like this.
And here you can see the Berber houses.
And the hill.
How they lived.
I think this is an old Berber house.
A lot of houses over there and under the earth because it's very cold.
Not very cold, but it's colder inside.
And now I think they use it for their sheep.
Still living people inside.
A very touristic place.
I think it's really green in winter.
But now it's...
Oh man, some parts are still green.
Look here.
But there is water.
It's so beautiful.
I'm navigating just on a blue line here.
It's working quite good.
Amazing.
I saw...
A bottle on the way.
And Sue had noticed it and brought it back to me again.
Look.
Everything full of camels.
Everywhere.
So nice.
We are coming more and more into the desert.
In the sand desert which is called Erg.
And the eastern Erg.
We landed in Qasir Jilan.
There is this hot water.
It was a very nice ride in the sand and on the gravel road.
And now you can see behind how it looks like here.
There was a hot water spa.
Natural one.
Qasir Jilan.
We are going out of Qasir Jilan.
Which was a little bit a touristic point.
Because all the tourists from Djerba are coming with a bus.
So with a four wheel drive here.
Which is pretty nice.
But pretty crowded.
Not so nice because it's crowded for us.
This is the road to Qus.
120 km.
It's getting better.
And Sue did really well in the desert on the sand.
So tomorrow we will go a little bit inside the Erg.
The sand dunes.
Today it was brilliant in comparison of yesterday.
We had to stop several times on this day.
Because we were so excited about the camels.
These desert sheep are truly incredible animals.
It's incredible that they can survive in this environment of heat and thistles and little water.
We watched the camels for a while and noticed that each of them had its own hairstyle.
Let's go.
Let's go on.
During the next 100 km before we were reaching Douz we had a lot of camel contacts on and beside the road.
In the late afternoon we reached Douz which is also called the gateway to the Sahara.
But what happened behind this gate you will find out in the next episode.
