Protesters got behind the wheel and took to the streets of Center City on Thursday evening, hours after Philadelphia City Council voted to move the 76 Place project forward.
well the fight over the proposed Sixers
arena is entering a new stage oh we
brought you the breaking news yesterday
Philadelphia city council members voting
to advance a set of bills about the
project but wow the voices are loud on
this Christy they sure were and the
battle is not over yet protesters formed
a caravan of cars on Market Street
during rush hour last night so the goal
here is to show what they say would be a
traffic disaster this is what it would
look like they believe on the nights
that games are happening at this Arena
if it's built action news reporter Cory
Davis has the latest on this developing
story those who oppose the arena here in
CER City say they took a blow after
yesterday's vote and are feeling down
about it but they're continuing to try
to think outside the box when it comes
to expressing their concerns telling us
that they won't be letting up before the
final vote next week there's still time
for people able to call their council
members their decision makers and ask
them to reverse what's going to be a big
disaster for the city those who oppose a
basketball arena in Center City rode in
roughly 100 cars for 20 minutes during
the evening Rush yesterday just a small
preview of what's to come for Center
City and for philadelphians through at
large who need to travel through this
area whether it's for work whether it's
for shopping whether it's to get to the
ER right down the street the protesters
showed what backups could look like on
Market Street and over by City Hall if
an arena is built where the Fashion
District currently stands in the two
years since the Sixers first proposed
the arena in Center City team leadership
has presented plans to manage traffic
public transportation and parking their
proposals weigh heavily on a large
portion of fans taking SEPTA but those
who oppose the project say they don't
see that happening this is a bad deal
for the city of Philadelphia 12
Philadelphia city council members
disagree and are supporting the deal
despite push back from protesters who
packed City Hall Chambers yesterday
legislation for the proposed arena is on
the brink of becoming reality with a
final vote expected on Thursday we know
Sixers leadership is continuing to work
with the city when it comes to trying to
come up with a traffic plan reporting
