Hi I'm Shorty and welcome back to my YouTube channel.
In this video I will be breaking down how to do a 180 jump on a transition and some
tips that may help you if you are struggling with this trick.
Some skills that will help you when attempting this trick is knowing how to pump and how
to 180 jump on flat ground.
Being able to carve is helpful but not necessary for learning this trick.
The first step is figuring out what leg you like to lead with and which way you like to
turn.
From here you can practice jumping 180 in shoes and then later attempting it on skates.
If you turn left and lead with your right leg or vice versa, it's easier to jump 180
as your hips are open to the turn and you just have to rotate your feet.
If you're like me and lead with your left leg and turn left or vice versa, it takes
a little bit more effort because you have to rotate your feet as well as switch your
legs.
Step 2.
You want to pump the ramp but try and keep a slight bend in your knees the whole way.
Step 3.
Repeat step 2 and as you reach the apex of your pump, you want to do a small jump by
pushing off the ramp.
As you land, you want to bend your knees back down to absorb the impact.
Step 4.
Repeat step 3 but now you want to add a 180 rotation in your hips and feet as you jump.
In terms of body position, you want the axis of your body to be perpendicular to the curve
of the ramp.
So the more vertical the ramp you are jumping, the more horizontal your body axis will have
to be.
It's also important to look where you are going.
First you want to be spotting the place where you'll be jumping, then you want to be spotting
the place where you'll be landing and lastly you want to be looking in the direction you
are heading.
So here are 3 tips that may help you if you're having trouble with step 4.
Tip 1.
You can practice first by approaching the transition at a 45 degree angle and as you
reach the apex of your jump you want to jump 90 degrees and travel back down the transition
exiting at 45 degrees.
This will get you used to jumping at the right time without having to rotate so much.
And from there you can tighten up the angles until you reach 180.
Tip 2.
If you're having difficulty doing 180 on a transition, then you can first practice on
an incline.
You can practice your body movements without having to worry about your body axis.
Tip 3.
It's important to remember to wait to the highest point of your pump to jump and not
jump too early, otherwise you end up jumping up the ramp and most likely not making the
full 180 jump.
Hopefully you were able to take a couple things away from this video that will help you with
180 jumps on a transition.
