welcome back to fine point I'm your
guest host Daniel Baldwin filling in the
great Chanel Ron the woman in 2006 who
claimed the three Duke University
LaCrosse members raped her creating a
national firestorm in the process has
come forward and actually admitted that
she made the whole thing up Crystal
Mangum a stripper at the time had
accused three players of rape and
assault after she had been hired to
dance at a house party the team was
throwing Mangum told the let's talk with
cat podcast as she made the whole thing
up and now she wants forgiveness from
the three
men let's think back to that time at
that time college students David Evans
Colin fery and Reed Seligman were
charged with rape and assault in 2006 in
2007 then attorney general Roy Cooper
dismissed the charges after no DNA
evidence was found but keep in mind this
was a national Firestorm and not only
did these three players come under the
mass of mic microscope but also the
school and the program as well Mangum at
the time was profiting off of the book
that she wrote about the events called
The Last Dance Cooper chose not to
charge her with perjury simply because
he came to the conclusion that Mangum
believed her own events of the tales and
the story that she claimed happened
Cooper is finishing out his tenure as
the governor of North Carolina
president-elect Donald Trump commented
on the situation when speaking with
reporters down in Mar Lago earlier today
this I thought it was I thought it was a
hoax when it happened the Duke situation
I didn't believe the woman as you know
and I you destroyed they destroyed the
lives of these these kids they destroyed
and I don't care what they got their
lives have been destroyed their lives
have been
shortened by what took place and now the
woman admitted that it never happened
that is a horrible and as you know I
took a lot of heat when I said that this
is this did not happen
and those kids were beautiful kids with
beautiful families and they were in some
cases will never be the same they will
never be the same with mangum's Nu clear
admission though what should happen
moving forward that seems to be the big
question and joining us now to help
answer that is Vish burough he's the
president of bassilus strategies former
Capitol Hill staffer and longtime
executive committee member of the New
York young Republican Club Vish this was
a story that the entire country was
watching back then three young lives
obviously destroyed at the time what's
your general reaction to this woman
coming forward now saying she made it
all
up well honestly first of all it's a
Vindication for those players at the
time uh you know even then she had
basically come out and and admitted it
but the fact of the matter is the damage
was already done and this was at a time
when you could say the mainstream media
had a better hold more Integrity perhaps
perceived integrity and so a lot of
those initial stories and that Firestorm
that that that happened around that case
and around those those young men uh had
sunk into the American public at large
and their reputations really thoroughly
destroyed and especially in the Advent
of the internet at the time those Google
hits were not going away there was no
way to scrub it there was no alternative
uh path to you know sort of flooding out
those Google hits nothing like that and
so what if you really think about it now
she's asking for forgiveness well what
what happens to those young men honestly
I believe that because U Miss Magnum
there had profited off of this situation
profited off the stories then I believe
that the uh Duke uh lacrosse players
deserve some kind of reparations for her
if there's money she made off the story
that should go to them because their
lives have been destroyed their careers
have been destroyed reputation they
don't even know the opportunities that
they've been cut out of that's what's so
Sinister about this right and so we need
to see some kind of just it can't be
just performative you can't just talk
about it there has to be an action and I
think that some kind of payback for
these gentle for these young men some
kind of reparations is definitely uh
needed V she's currently in jail for the
murder of her boyfriend that happened
after in 2011 she was convicted of
second deegree murder in 2013 sentenced
to 14 to 18 years in prison but should
this instance ultimately be a warning
