We're going to be gliding forward. We want our shins at the front of the boots
and your whole midsection works forward towards your ski tips. Okay, and then you steer your
toes in for your wedge. Give yourself a push. Move. Your whole body moves forward.
Steer your toes in to a stop. Tose, you're brilliant. So it's steeper. Now watch. I'm
pressing to my poles. I'm going to step around. My tails go downhill. I've got to get my poles
behind me so I don't slip backwards. See? I'll put your poles behind you. That's really good
control. Do you understand how that works? Yeah. Great job. Okay, let's go this way.
Good. Are you liking the pace? Is the pace okay? The pace is perfect. Perfect? Oh, wow.
That's a word that I like. Perfect. Okay. Tuesday, how does this pitch look to you?
Can you do your snowplow to a stop right here? Yeah. Yeah, good. Let's do it.
Let's ski with our hands real quick. Our skis are parallel and flat.
We're going to steer our toes in. We come to a stop. Okay, steer the toes, heels out.
That's good. You've got really nice space between your legs. Steer the toes in. Awesome. Okay,
that's what we're going to do with our legs. Okay, so we can come right over here.
You practice your poles in front of you. I'm going to put my poles right in front of me here
so I don't slide away. You can put your poles right down here.
I'm going to start parallel. I'm going to give you a little demo here. Okay, I'm going to just
let myself go. I'm going to steer my toes in and come to a stop. Yeah, go ahead and let yourself
off the carpet. There you go. Steer your toes in, big and wide, even more. Awesome. Tuesday,
what I loved is that you totally trusted it. You did the action. A lot of people, they lean back
and they don't want to steer their toes in. They don't want to do the action and then they panic
and then problems happen. You just look downhill and you steer your toes in really wide and
aggressively and you came to a stop. That was awesome. Let's do more of that. You know what
you can do on the carpet? You can practice your herringbone. Notice how they're baby steps so you
don't cross the tails of your skis. Remember, stand up, stand up, stand up tall, get to the
front of your boots, stand up tall, trust it, trust it. Now, steer your toes in and heels out
really wide. Tuesday, that's awesome. Okay, let's do that a few more times. I'm not going to talk
to you next time. You work yourself through it, okay? Tuesday, rocking the herringbone.
Awesome, that's so good. Okay, so are you ready to walk it past the carpet? Okay, you're not going
to have the advantage of the carpet stopping you so you're going to put your poles below you like
I showed you, remember, so you don't slide. Okay, so let's work that into it now. Okay, now Tuesday,
we remember when we sidestepped and how you found your edges? Yeah, this is a side hill.
If you're going to go across the side hill, you have to find those edges so you don't slip down.
Okay, so watch me. I'm going to come off of this carpet and I'm going to find those edges
and I'm going to just a little bit of a push so I'm grabbing the mountain, okay?
Yeah, there you go. Find those edges. That's good. Yep, you're going to grab the mountain,
grab it, and give yourself a push. You don't have to step now. Give yourself a push. Keep
grabbing the mountain. Well, yeah, by rolling it. There you go. A little more to me. A little more.
See, look at that. That's perfect. Okay, now we've done this already. Remember when I had you go in
a circle with your poles? You're going to put your poles below you out in front and Tuesday,
I'm going to put my palms on top of my grips and I'm going to make baby steps and my poles are
going to keep me from going down. Baby steps and fit your tips right between your toes,
right between your poles. Get the weight on your hands there. Okay, we're going to start in a
parallel Tuesday. Yep, press on those poles. Start in a parallel and then steer the toes in.
Gliding wedge. You got it. Steer your toes in to a stop. You did it. You're ready to go. Let's go to
the carpet. You are ready. I have you go first, okay, and you just have your skis parallel.
You're just going to little baby steps, scooch on, okay, and then it's going to take you. It's going
to take you up the hill. There you go. You got it. You might want your poles behind you so you don't
slip backwards. Put your poles on the carpet. Put your cold poles on the carpet. Yeah, behind and
you can kind of press your poles, your hands, so that you don't slip backwards. You got that?
That helps. Okay, give yourself a little bit of a push and then baby steps.
Well, that helps. Baby steps. Turn over. Yeah, over this way. Give ourselves a push.
We're going to go straight down this pitch, but we're going to move into our wedge, and we're
just going to go straight, and we're going to be tall. We're going to be at the front of our boots,
and we're just going to let ourselves float down the mountain, but you are aggressively
turning into your wedge. Okay, and then do I go french fries, pizza, french fries, pizza,
or just one long french fry and a pizza for the end? Your call. Okay. If you are comfortable,
okay, french fry. Okay. If you are comfortable, wedge, french fry, wedge. You're not going to be
comfortable french fry parallel very long, then you're going to go into your wedge. Okay. So,
I'll show you what it's going to look like. Okay. You got this, Tuesday. Steer into your wedge.
Yeah, go ahead and steer into your wedge. Big. That's good. Bigger. If you want to slow down,
now parallel, and now turn into your wedge. Really big, and if you're comfortable,
turn your legs back into parallel. You're fine. Yep. All on your own. Okay. When you're ready,
you just do it on your own. That's perfect. That is so good. Okay, let's do it again. All
on your own. Your comfort. Go as fast as you want to go, and that gliding wedge will slow you down.
Okay. And when you turn into your wedge, when you steer into your wedge,
and when you steer to parallel, that's a turning move. Your legs are turning,
and pretty soon we're going to be taking that action into making our ski turns. Okay. I'll
meet you down here. You're totally doing it. That's your control. Okay. That is awesome.
There's nothing passive about skiing. Skiing is totally athletic, and you're a dancer,
and you know when you dance that you are all in and participating with the movements,
right? This isn't going to take care of itself. Your body is doing the movements, okay? So right
now, when we go down here, I want you to think that you're just doing some big new jump or big
new move, and you're all in. As we're going down, I want you to think big together. Big,
I mean kind of aggressive. Okay. Aggressive movements with your wedge, and then parallel,
and wedge, and parallel. And you're in total control, and you're making those movements happen.
Okay. Okay? Understood? Yeah. Can I watch you do that? Yes. Exactly. What a perfect question. Okay,
so here we go, Tuesday. I'm going to give myself a big push. Push. Yeah, there you are. Awesome.
Look downward. Look down at me. Where are you going? Yeah. It's all you, Tuesday. It's all
your movements. It's all coming out of your legs. Okay. And your posture was perfect. Okay. You're
standing nice and tall. You're not doing this. Okay. Yeah. You were so comfortable, and your
legs were doing all of the action.
