good morning guys welcome back to my
allotment Diaries my name is Emma this
is my allotment plot here on South
London these are my allotment Diaries I
believe this may possibly be one of the
last allotment Diaries of the Year
obviously next week it is Christmas um
very exciting but I will be taking at
least a week off for Christmas and then
most likely I'll be back down here again
over the Christmas period so if I do
come down I will film and upload it but
I'll let you know sort of as we go if
you're on social media and you follow me
there I'll let you know not quite as
gray and miserable as it has been the
last few days I can see a little bit of
blue sky like breaking through the cloud
which is very nice I've worn my big
stripey colorful jumper today to try and
ignite a bit of color and happiness into
the allotment because it has been a bit
miserable recently I have to admit the
last time I was here it was the most
miserable day and I actually genuinely
felt miserable after it it might have
been because I was making that bleeding
Arch way it might have been cuz I was
making the archway to be fair um which
was a crazy thing to do
crazy what are
you right lots of crows about today I'm
not sure what they're all up to but I
don't trust them you can hear Einstein
somewhere so as soon as he comes we'll
feed him but I've noticed a problem so
I'm quite glad that I came down here
today because my Archway on my original
allotment plot sort of fallen down and I
don't believe we've had any strong winds
and stuff so I don't know why this would
have
happened look at this I don't know why
this has
happened this is
inconvenient it's really really
fulling
apart right well I'm going to have to
try and sort of secure it somehow and
fix it cuz if I don't and I just leave
it the wind will just make it completely
snap and I've lost two archways which is
really annoying I'm sort of going to try
and tie it back into these poles luckily
I've got loads of sticks in my stick
collection now it's like the stick
collection is just exploded um I don't
know where I can tie that
one maybe to there it might be worth
taking it down but at the same time I
feel like if I take it
down it might get even more broken cuz
it's quite rusted they don't last very
long these AR trees this has lasted a
couple of years I think um let me get
some more
[Music]
sticks there
[Music]
I feel like I should write a book about
sticks it' be a gardening book but it
would just predominantly be about sticks
and how important they
are I do think sticks are really
important in the garden I don't think
there's many jobs you can't fix with the
sticks and I've said that a lot of times
I think I'm the prime person to write
about sticks you know and there many
many uses so much can just be fixed with
a good stick you know just stick a stick
in it stick a stick in it that's a good
name that's title actually sticker stick
in
it the book of
sticks I think I've secured it to the
point where it's not going to fall
down right I can't see him anywhere but
you know what as soon as I put this down
he will will
emerge you will appear from nowhere
won't you Einstein wherever you are I
know you
[Music]
will I saw something just fly past me so
I think that's
Einstein hello Einstein come on
then I knew you just turn up I knew it
coming in
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
this area here is really testing
me oh my goodness it's not like I
haven't done it before I did it to the
hole of the plot but I think that might
be the problem I got mud all over me yes
I think the problem is I did so much of
this this time last year that I've just
lost my motivation I'm finding it really
hard to stay motivated these canes these
Blackberry canes have been in the ground
for flipping years um they're really
rooted they're massive they're so hard
to get up I am getting through it though
I am getting through it I think I'm
going to leave some of that as like a
border between my plot and their plot I
know a lot of you will say no just take
it all down but I don't think it's
actually my plot I don't think it is I
think it's theirs I don't think my
plot's that
big hi Einstein you right you looking
for ones Einstein's happy that I'm
tackling this area to be fair he's the
only one having a lovely time everyone
else is struggling I'm struggling and
you're just reaping the rewards anyway
it's getting there and the greenhouse
will go here at some point so it's very
exciting I'll just keep I'll just keep
digging away at it if you're pardon the
pun I'll just keep digging away at it
little and often and it will get done it
will
[Music]
I think my broad beans need supporting
because I thought it was just this one
who was getting big and flopping over
but actually a lot of them are starting
to get a little bit bendy stems which
means they're getting taller I think
they need supporting that's crazy that
is yeah a lot of them are really getting
really tall now I mean I've never had to
support broad beans this early before so
this is actually crazy but it's a good
thing because it means they're getting
bigger they're getting stronger and I'd
rather put support in early rather than
it be too late and they will snap so
what we're going to do we're going to
put bigger sticks in I've got these
little ones at the moment they're not
they're not viable for the
future broad beins do actually get
really tall because these will get a lot
taller so we need some taller sticks oh
again sticks see I should really write
that book I really should
[Music]
so all you have to do with broad beans
if you sew them in rows or I think
you're supposed to sew them in zigzags
aren't you it's even easier if you do it
in zigzags what you do is you put your
stick either end of the uh the line you
tie a bit a
twine and then you just run the twine
down the whole row
keeps them all in
place that and then you come back on
yourself come back on
yourself clut
one then
cut and then you tie
it and the whole
row is supported in one go that is how
you do it so to be honest that's
probably a little bit cuz I'm crushing
him so let's move you along a little bit
there oh no I've killed them all I've
killed the whole row the whole row my
God why did you just do that
plants do you want to die cuz that's
where you are right now right that
should support them better there we are
okay trying not to kill them all right
this bro is going to a bit trickier
because they're not in a straight line
I'm actually wondering if I should move
some of the
plants
over no we know what we'll just we'll go
for it so if it go
there problem is with this one I can't
come back on
myself I can't come back on myself I
maybe another couple of sticks is that
going to be too many sticks though
it's an interesting question though
isn't it about if could it ever be too
many sticks could you have too many
sticks I don't know possibly
yeah really it needs to be closer I
could stick that one together that one
together it's a bloody good idea let's
do
that like that that's good there is
so you can sort of see I think you can
sort of see what I've done with the
twine going across the whole row that's
why it's so important to sew it in a
straight line I just didn't do it as
they get taller I'll just tie more twine
across them and it should hopefully keep
them all standing upright but they look
so fantastic and healthy I just want to
keep them all alive
[Music]
all right are you ready for this guys
cuz I don't think I am I brought this
off of Amazon and I have absolutely no
idea how it works it's basically a CL so
it's plastic sheeting and then these
sort of Hoops that the cl goes over a
bit like you know my um Brassica one
with the blue water piping Hoops that's
water piping by the way and then you put
the sheet over it it's like that I
brought it for this so my fleecing here
keeps um coming off of these which is
very very annoying and they're all
growing so nicely you see all that under
there my goodness look at that that's
all my salad crops so I want to I want
to change it to be the
Hoops cuz I think it will just I think
firstly the fleece will be off of them
I'm not touching them anymore and then
also I think it will stop blowing away
it won't blow away so anyway it was only
a couple of quid my going to find out
why it was only a couple of quid now it
wasn't a couple of quid it was like10 or
something like that but I just thought
[Music]
God I
think it goes
through what not to do on a windy
day
this whatever this job is don't do it
not on a windy day oh I can't get it
through there does it go through
[Music]
there this might take me a while I'll
come back to you right I think I did it
but we will find out if I did so let's
get this off just a
[Music]
[Music]
at the
end
just thread it through but You' got to
be careful cuz it breaks the
[Music]
plastic it's quite long so it is good is
it okay that there's an opening at the
end I think it is I think I think it is
okay that is an opening at the
end yeah I think think that's good is
that good though I don't know is it
good
[Music]
like that is actually quite good I
really like that I really like that
that's really cool so look you can see
inside it's like a little tent for
plants do you like your tent guys guys
do you love it I feel like it's going to
fall down though I feel like it's just
going to collapse what it needs is more
Hoops isn't it it needs more hoops and
is that not going to fly in no I don't
think it will it's quite good the end is
open I think it's supposed to be for air
flow and actually these crops can cope
with the cold I really like that I love
it in there I love
it oh I hope you love it
guys L on my hands and knees at the
alotment in December who have thought eh
it's not normal is it it's not normal to
be crawling around at this time of year
oh
filthy anyway enjoy your tent guys Merry
Christmas I can't get back up
oh I hate getting
[Music]
old right there you go I think I'm done
for the day I'm trying to spend sort of
shorter bursts of time at the allotment
over the winter months and then I think
it just keeps your morale up keeps your
motivation levels up you know when you
don't feel like you're here for hours
and hours in the cold so just little and
often just seems to work really well for
me I will get that area cleared and I
will get the greenhouse in hopefully
over the next few weeks I've got a super
festive Vlog for you coming on Friday so
I really hope that you enjoy that it's a
little bit different from me I'm going
to show you around rhs wisley um I'm
doing my table display decorations and
also sewing some more sweet peas at home
so I hope you enjoy that Vlog I'll see
you again on Friday and for me in the
allotment plot goodbye for now thank you
for watching guys bye
