Good morning, good morning.
I'm here at Kendal Mountain Festival with Garmin.
There are no bikes, no bikes this trip.
I've not brought my bike with me.
I am in full running, get up, doing a run with Tom Evans.
And for Tom Evans, like he runs the distance as I cycle.
So, but I have been warned, this is party pace.
So we'll see.
It's a trail run.
I love trail running in winter.
So we are gonna, I'm actually really excited
to go and do it, but we'll see.
We'll see how we go.
I'm there.
I think the big thing was, from going from being,
Hello.
Training.
Can you not put it, attach it to your backpack?
You do, you can attach it to your backpack.
Well, put it on your backpack.
Tom Evans behind, we're heading out now
to go and start the trail.
I'm really nervous.
I think it's 8K, 200 meters.
I've just not done that much running,
but it's party pace, steady.
It's gonna be really beautiful.
And I think the rain is meant to have stopped, so.
It's not raining.
Woo hoo.
I'm gonna get some days off.
And we have got Tom joining us today.
And so largely, if we do have any breakaways,
we'll have-
Also, first time using maps as a woman.
That is unbelievably good.
Oh my God, Jess is actually carrying the Garmin thing
the whole way.
Is he actually?
I thought he was joking.
I'm loving this so far.
We're only about a kilometer in, but.
And I got my fix of shoes.
I'm better than running,
because you get close to the sheep.
Oh, but this is why trail running is so fun, right?
I think it does make you just switch off,
but you're not really-
You've got to concentrate.
Yeah.
Oh my God, we get to look at the sheepies.
Hello, sheepie.
Oh, it didn't look like it was coming towards you.
That one is.
That is a Texel.
Hello, Texel.
Terry Texel.
Back around a bit there, yeah?
Ooh.
It is.
I do like a hill.
Yeah, this is steep.
Oh my God, see the sheepies.
Oh, look how beautiful these walls are.
They're just-
Oh, I just love them.
Look, we've got stone walls.
We've got sheep.
We've got that and sheep.
Exactly, honestly.
This is my, like, dream run.
Thank you.
Really loving this.
I can't look at you because
I'm looking where my feet are going.
I'm running up that hill.
Look at the views.
It's a little bit cloudy.
I've got, like, two soft mitts, just in case.
I'm going to go down for a bit.
Woo-hoo!
Just starting to rain.
We're only about, what, 500 metres back?
We did it!
Fantastic.
That was the distance, an hour and...
Course complete!
8.34 kilometres.
So much fun, really enjoyed it.
How have you got mud all over your face?
Oh, the mountain bike.
I was sending it on the mountain bike.
Oh my God.
No way!
What?
Hello!
What, Garmin?
Best behaviour.
I'm always on best behaviour.
Hello.
I didn't expect it to be this big.
They might call you crazy.
Watching the injury session to push Nobel boundaries,
find out what's capable of.
This would be a classic slide from a figure eight.
I've been a terrible vlogger.
There's just so much going on.
So I did the rum, went to the talk with Tom,
then we went to another talk.
Now I'm going back in to the Garmin stand
because I'm doing a Q&A talk with Garmin.
So I'm very excited about that.
This is, it's a really,
it's the first time coming to the Kendal Mountain Festival.
It's kind of like a Glastonbury,
but for people that like the outdoors.
That's how I'd describe it.
There's like so many brands here.
Got the Garmin stand, but my talk is inside.
It's not just me, there are other people as well.
Patagonia, I'm gonna have a look.
I love me some Patagonia.
Yeah, there's lots of runs, there's talks, there's films.
Oh, thank you.
I'm fat.
Actually, I'm gonna chat here.
One of the films where we've just been in
was a disabled charity that have bikes.
Honestly, that film was just so good
because I think, I guess for me this morning
with that trail run, I was like,
oh, I'm not gonna be quick enough
because I've obviously not done that much running.
But like seeing those films
just give you a different perspective
of how much we take for granted
that we're able just to get out and run whenever we want.
But also seeing bikes that are adapted to go off-road
and to give people that are in that situation
the ability to be able to go and enjoy, I guess, trails.
So I just, I don't know, it's just inspiring.
And there was another woman on there.
I can't remember her name.
I'll leave, I'll find her name,
but she's called Tracy, I think.
And she, like this time last year,
had only done like a 5K run
and she's gone and done ultra trail runs.
I'm like, I said that on the way out.
I was like, oh my gosh, you were so, so good.
It's made me want to go and have a look
at some trail races or trail runs that I wanna do.
I just love it in winter, like getting outdoors,
getting into the middle of nowhere,
seeing all the sheep,
seeing all the beautiful stone walls
that I would see in summer on the bike.
But you're able to do that in winter.
Obviously I like it all year,
but specifically winter, you get so warm and toasty
when it's too cold to ride.
Riding will always be my number one,
but I really enjoy that trail.
If you know any trail races
or any really good trail runs,
let me know in the comments,
cause I wanna do them.
So I'm gonna go in now.
We're gonna go and see what the plan is.
Let's go and have a look.
Oh, sorry.
Sorry.
Right, I'm just gonna have to show you what it's like.
We've got a fascinating panel discussion
about to get underway.
It's the Adventure Beyond Limits panel discussion
powered by Garmin.
And I have to say,
it's one of those ones that's maybe got me
a little bit outside of my comfort zone
in terms of what we normally talk about there,
cause I am a bit of a technophobe.
But the wonderful team at Garmin
have made me feel very reassured
that actually there are four experts here.
We're gonna do all of the technical chat for me.
So I'm so thrilled to welcome.
The intro's gonna take me a while,
cause not only are there a lot of them,
but they've done a lot of stuff.
So bear with me,
because what they have done and who they are
is really relevant to how important the tech is
that we're gonna be talking about.
So for me, it's knowing that I'm not on my own,
like having that communication with others
the way you are in the world,
and having that ability to be able to,
again, like, so for people at home,
being able to track where you are,
like your in-signal, out-of-signal.
So I've got the user key too.
And the SOS on that is,
I guess, for my peace of mind then,
if anything does happen,
if I'm ever anywhere really remote,
or something happens,
all you've got to do is press that,
no matter what time of day,
any day of the year,
and you get help.
You've got to guess the weight at the back.
Can we try it on?
Sorry.
I reckon you need it one size down, I reckon.
18 kilos.
Gives away how the weather has been.
The weather has not been great.
Today's been much, much better.
But I thought I'd give you like a little rundown
of what Kendall Night Festival's like,
because it's the first time I've ever been.
And I've honestly had such a good time,
because I didn't know what to expect,
but there's so much going on.
There's so many talks,
there's so many like runs,
there's so many different things that you can do.
And all like your favourite brands are here,
like outdoor brands.
So you can go and have a look at the kit,
try things out.
So like at the Garmin stand,
you can go and actually play with the watches,
have a look at the head unit,
see what they're actually like,
chat to someone who knows everything about Garmin.
So that was really good.
And also I've been really like inspired.
So we saw one of the talks
and they're on with trail running.
And obviously we did that trail run this morning with Garmin.
I'm just like,
I actually think I want to do longer trail runs
and get more into that.
Like Tom Evans in the Q&A,
he was just saying about,
someone was asking like,
why they think that gravel,
not gravel,
trail race,
I've got this idea on the brain.
Wow, that's so noisy.
Wait for him to go past.
No, no, no, go for it.
Honestly, I'll wait for you to go past.
But yeah, overall,
it's been a really fun weekend.
Definitely recommend it.
And yeah, I would like to come back next year.
Cause it's just like the actual,
like the people that are here,
it's just outdoorsy people
wanting to do really fun stuff.
So yeah, thanks so much to Garmin for inviting me.
Really enjoyed it.
And yeah, any questions?
Leave them in the comments.
Oh my gosh.
I need to just go and get warm.
Can't wait.
It's been pretty chilly.
So I'm going to go.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye.
