I'm starting to speak now, I'm starting to speak now, I'm starting to speak now, I'm
friends and family, but we have decided to stay in the hut for two nights
because we just miss them very much. We want to come back here and we
came at just the right time, because a few days ago we had the first
big snowfall of the year. So it's a beautiful winter wonderland.
Unfortunately, the temperatures are rising and it is raining a lot today, but we
are just happy to be home again. To be honest, it feels like
we only left a few days ago. The last three months have passed like
a flash in the pan. And we feel so comfortable here again. And yes, we will
just relax these three days and enjoy the hut and play a lot of board games.
She is sleeping. Yes. Three actions. I have to turn on the heater. Perfect, perfect,
wonderful. Yes, yes, yes. So we won our game. And now it's time to
you know what's going on now. But for those of you who don't know,
Nick and I met six years ago just before Christmas, and our first
date was a chocolate fondue. And since then it has been our tradition. Every year
we make a fondue together before Christmas. To be honest, there is no place
in the world where we would prefer to maintain this tradition than in this hut that we built ourselves.
Yes, it was a perfect timing that we came back from the holidays and had enough time
to drive to this hut, because it just feels like home. She does.
We just wanted to take the time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and
a nice holiday, no matter what you celebrate. I hope we have a great time. We really enjoy
our time here, but we are already looking forward to traveling again. We know that
we will return to the hut every day in 2025 to continue working on our land.
We have so many projects to do here. We are also very happy about that. We didn't sleep
very well last night, because we discovered that a few mice had sneaked into the
gable of the hut. They crawled around all night and kept us awake.
That's why we put their heads on this end of the bed. Today we will try to find the hole
through which they go in and out. But we don't have great hopes, because we have to
leave soon and it is possible that we will not find their entry point. That means that
they will probably live in the gable for a few more months. And we think that if we
return to the hut permanently at some point, our first task will be to remove the
plates from the gable side, to renew the insulation and to make them completely mouse-safe
in order to really prevent them from ever coming back in.
We have removed a few boards from the wall here, removed some of the tape and
basically discovered their stock of seeds. As soon as we had removed the tape,
it was basically just a waterfall of balsam fern seeds. We collected them in this bucket
here and it's ridiculous how many there are. The best thing we can really do is
to glue the steam barrier back on and hope that they don't get through it and
then get into the hut and start destroying it. What they haven't done yet.
So we are pretty confident that they won't do that while we're gone.
