exciting news the highly anticipated
catch ship mission is approaching as
SpaceX has unveiled significant updates
to both the ship and Chopsticks systems
these advancements continue to set
SpaceX apart from its competitors
meanwhile China's government supported
efforts to develop similar Technologies
remain underway as they aim to rival
spacex's achievement join us for today's
episode of great SpaceX to explore these
developments we are on the road to
flight 7 the first V2 flight of spacex's
Starship program while its Mission will
remain consistent with flights five and
six meaning there will be no attempt to
catch the ship just yet this upcoming
flight is a crucial stepping stone
toward future advancements according to
Elon Musk the much anticipated ship
catch is projected to take place in
early 2025 potentially beginning with
flight 8 although the likelihood of a
successful catch during flight 8 remains
uncertain ongoing upgrades to ship 35
designated for flight 9 are
significantly enhancing spacex's
capabilities in this area why is ship 35
related to flight 8 you may ask this
connection becomes clearer as we explore
recent upgrades after spending time in
mega Bay 2 the first section of ship 35
including the nose cone in payload
section was moved out of the bay these
parts had been stacked since early
December like awaiting further assembly
this unexpected movement revealed
numerous upgrades on ship 35 signaling
spacex's ongoing technological
advancements notably several locations
on both sides of the ship particularly
in the payload section now feature small
rectangular holes these modifications
align with a system SpaceX referenced in
Flight 6's update where over 2,000 tiles
were removed to prepare for catching
support systems the appearance of these
holes suggests significant progress
toward enabling ship catches in future
missions upon closer inspection of ship
35 additional features become apparent
in areas where heat shields remain just
below the forward flap small holes are
visible these are likely lifter
alignment points used by cranes to lift
the ship onto or off the stand or stack
it within the bay typically there are
four such points to ensure balance
during these operations however the most
notable feature remains these small
rectangular holes on both both sides of
the ship speculation suggests that these
will serve as the connection points for
the Chopsticks during Landing a feature
not present on the first V2 prototype
ship 33 this further reinforces the
possibility that SpaceX will
successfully catch the ship with the new
prototype despite these promising
upgrades additional modifications may be
required relying solely on small holes
could pose significant risks due to the
high Precision needed for a successful
catch especially during the initial
steps these holes may be part of a more
complex system possibly featuring
mechanisms that extend outward during
landing and retract when not in use
alternatively this could represent a
breakthrough in spacex's Catching
technology if you have insights on these
upgrades please share them in the
comments Down Below in addition to the
primary upgrades ship 35 includes
enhancements likely designed for the
Chopstick system to lift the ship when
stacked similar to the ship catch points
these may include two additional points
on both sides unlike ship 33 where these
points were hidden behind heat shields
they are now Exposed on ship 35 this
visibility suggests that SpaceX might be
testing different configurations or that
heat shields have not yet been installed
this raises an important question if the
heat shields are absent will the
Chopstick lifting points and the ship
catch points withstand damage during
re-entry in Flight six we observed
discoloration and deformation in areas
without tiles revealing the
vulnerability of these exposed points
SpaceX May address this by installing
partial heat shields around these
critical areas or incorporating Advanced
cooling systems to protect them during
re-entry ensuring the durability of
these components is crucial for the
ship's long-term reusability and SpaceX
will need effective solutions to
safeguard them now regarding why the
flight 9 prototype suggests a catch
possibility in flight 8 as of now the
nose cone in payload section for ship 34
intended for flight 8 have not been
revealed based on recent upgrades on
ship 35 it is reasonable to expect
similar enhancements on ship 34 if
SpaceX can incorporate these upgrades
catching the ship during flight 8
becomes a feasible goal alternatively if
ship 34 lacks these updates SpaceX might
switch missions launching ship 35 on
flight 8 and giving ship 34 extra time
for modifications before flight 9 given
spacex's rapid production capabilities
ship 35 could be ready in time for
flight 8 minimizing delays I hope ship
34 also receives these essential
upgrades to ensure consistency and
Readiness avoiding potential disruptions
the synchronized advancements across
ship and Chopstick systems _ spacex's
meticulous approach to refining their
technology ensuring seamless
collaboration between the vehicle and
ground systems key to a successful V2
operation ship 35's upgrades mirror
recent improvements to the Chop sck
catching system previously discussed
thanks to detailed analyses and images
shared by Chrome kiwi on X we have
gained valuable insights into these
enhancements a big thank you to Chrome
kiwi for his outstanding work which has
deepened our understanding of these
developments I encourage everyone to
follow his X page for updates and to
support his continued efforts in a 3D
image created by Chrome kiwi the
differences between the old and new
lifting pins are apparent
the updated version includes a black
ring that rotates via a bearing
providing greater flexibility for
connecting and aligning the super heavy
booster and ship during lifting lowering
and stacking this flexibility is
critical for precise alignment during
catches and may lay the groundwork for
future catch attempts these upgraded
lifting pins align closely with the
enhancements observed on ship 35
emphasizing the comprehensive nature of
spacex's advancements do you think space
SpaceX will attempt a ship catch a

on spacex's groundbreaking Journey
indeed spacex's rapid advancements with
Starship are leaving its competitors in
the dust particularly blue origin and
United launch Alliance while SpaceX is
pushing the boundaries of innovation and
redefining the pace of space exploration
others seem to be lagging far behind
take blue origin for instance their much
anticipated new Glenn rocket will
undoubtedly not fly this year the hot
fire test a critical milestone in rocket
development has either not been
conducted or if it has remains
unannounced without completing this step
obtaining the necessary launch license
becomes impossible pushing the launch
date further into the future this delay
will significantly impact blue Origins
plans particularly its Mars spacecraft
launch mission for NASA more strikingly
while SpaceX is moving toward full
reusability with its two-stage catch
system blue origin is still grappling
with the basic challenge of reaching
orbit reliably this stark contrast in
progress is more than just a setback
it's an embarrassment for blue origin
highlighting the chasm between the two
companies capabilities and Ambitions
meanwhile Ula faces its own delays the
ussf 106 Mission their next planned
launch isn't expected to happen before
April of 2025 by then SpaceX may already
have demonstrated its ability to catch
the starship's upper stage a fet that
will further underscore its
technological lead adding to ula's
challenges is the unresolved sech 2
issue which has delayed launch
certification and compounded its
struggle to stay competitive with SpaceX
searching ahead the 2025 Space Race
already feels decided across the globe
spacex's dominance is also casting a
long Shadow over competitors in China
One such company landspace has emerged
as the most successful in mimicking
spacex's approach recently landspace
announced a significant boost 900
million Yuan or $123 million us and
funding from China's national
manufacturing transformation and
upgrading fund this substantial
investment will be directed toward the
development testing and manufacturing of
metho reusable launch Vehicles
particularly within its juuu family the
juu 2 rocket already making headlines
successfully launched in November
delivering a 4ton payload to Sun syn
synchronous orbit building on this
momentum landspace is focusing on the
development of the juu 3 slated for its
first launch in 2025 with plans to reuse
its first stage by 2026 landspace has
also conducted a 10 km vertical liftoff
and Landing test with the juu 3 and
September showcasing steady progress the
juu 3 rocket measures 76.6 m in height
and 4 1/2 m in diameter capable of
carrying 21 tons to low earth orbit in
an Expendable config duration 18.3 tons
if we used down range and 12 1/2 tons
when returning to the Launchpad its
primary goal is to support resupply
missions for China's tiang gong space
station while landspace has made
commendable strides commendable strides
its progress owes much to heavy
Government funding and a strategy of
emulating SpaceX this practice is
emblematic of China's private Aerospace
sector where companies frequently
replicate spacex's designs and
Innovations despite these efforts such
an approach May limit their ability to
innovate independently or achieve
long-term sustainability in contrast
spacex's Forward Thinking strategies and
robust development pipelines set it
apart with ambitious plans for the
coming years SpaceX appears well
positioned to outpace competitors like
landspace and other SpaceX imitators
copying May provide a temporary boost
but true leadership in Aerospace
requires Innovation adaptability and
self-reliance qualities that SpaceX
continues to to embody as SpaceX marches
ahead transforming the landscape of
space exploration it's clear that
imitation alone won't suffice for its
competitors to Dethrone the industry
leader for now the future of space
travel is firmly in spacex's hands and
with that thank you so much for tuning
in as always this has been Kevin from
great SpaceX until next time keep
looking up
