Getting his back in the Super Crown 2023.
Giovanni Viana, our Super Crown defending champion from Brazil.
Things up with defending Super Crown champ, Giovanni Viana.
I think he hit that on the way up.
First run was a 7-2.
This run, watch this.
Oh, oh, it was the front axle hit the crossbar.
I thought it was his back truck.
Look at this, board slide up.
Barely hanging on.
But his fakie pop is so good that he's still able to just
get right up on top of that fakies with nothing.
And then you know he's not missing that.
It's like a backboard for the rest of us for Gio.
8.8.
Great run.
Puts him right up in the mix.
Giovanni Viana.
Had an 8.8 in the second run.
Stomped.
It's a little nod to Chris Cole right there.
He's the first person I've ever seen do it.
Cab up and over, front blunt fakie.
Brought to you by Bank of Brazil.
Good work, Gio.
On the march.
Did he get paid getting into 9 club?
Was there a bonus for 9 clubs?
There should be.
There used to be.
Oh, I don't know.
Gonna have to ask.
They might go broke after this finals.
Try to get nuts.
Giovanni Viana.
That trick's got legs.
He's gonna be able to ride that one for a long time
because it's so good.
Fakie.
Frontside.
180 to backsmith.
Yeah, he has the pop to make that one consistent and easy.
But nobody else has that.
I've seen two people do that trick in my life.
Giovanni Viana.
And Max Schaaf on a vert ramp.
Nice.
Good call.
Here at UFC Apex.
Giovanni Viana in.
There we go.
Fakie.
Perfect.
Look at how high that fakie ollie was.
To be spinning away from the rail
and then get all the way over to front blunt.
You have to have some serious fakie pop.
And this should cue the band.
The Brazilians like it.
Download True Skater.
How is that?
Makes no sense to me that he can do that.
Comfortable like that.
Frontside abcap to backsmith.
Dipped perfect.
Landed perfect.
Not a doubt in the world.
Yeah.
That was incredible.
I hope he goes next to the front cab backboard.
Yeah, we almost had that last contest.
But first we get this.
9.2.
Out the board leaving your feet.
I think that's a huge asset to street leagues.
It's just a little bit more likely you're going to make it.
Yeah, it's a little less room for error.
But it's also like the way they can tweak their bodies.
Exactly what I was talking about right there.
Is that what we just saw?
Cab back nose blunt.
It's a straight. Yeah.
It's like he can wind up and twist.
And just be able to like stop his body from turning.
Cue the band.
100%.
I know Billy Marx is wearing sunglasses.
Couldn't miss that.
That is 100% a 9.
9 even.
I think even 9 even is a little low.
I kind of thought it would be a 9.3.
Giovanni Viana is in next.
Had a great knockout round.
Smashed.
Defending super crown champ.
You're going to see fakie tricks galore.
That's not all he's got.
I love that gap smith to start things off.
Going the distance on that frontside lip slide.
Smooth front tail.
A lot of tricks to start out that run.
That was only 15 seconds.
Fakie mode.
Man, so close.
Trying to get right after it.
We've said this many times.
Everybody in the final, they all come out.
No strategy really other than just trying to win.
All in.
Half cap blunt.
So that's time for Giovanni Viana.
A lot of great tricks in that run.
But we've seen the judges really punish the skaters with scores when they fall.
Even one time.
Yeah, they're going to scrutinize for sure.
And it's going to be difficult to win with a line for the fall.
6.7.
You ready for this next skate?
Skate that great.
You know how it is though, in a contest, to keep that kind of excitement up.
Level up.
Giovanni Viana in.
Fakie.
Alright.
So now thrilled with a 6.7 in the line section.
Coming out, getting it done in his first.
Five single trick attempts.
Cap front bluff fakie.
That's why he's the super crown champ.
Look at how easily he gets in there.
His fakie pop is so high.
Geez.
And a 9.1.
Here's another look.
Coming in fakie.
Getting it all the way around.
I mean, not even the slightest bit of bobble right there.
Just locked.
Alright now, Giovanni.
The way he locked that is so good.
100% commitment.
It's just, he knows exactly where to stop the rotation and put it down, which is so difficult.
Like, take a look at this.
He's up.
Stop.
Boom.
And then he just puts it down.
You would think that he would kind of keep moving and turning.
But no.
He gets into it at the exact perfect spot.
It's incredible.
That level of control is why he is one of the best in the world.
Giovanni Biana needs a 2.3 to move into second place.
He can't win.
He can get close.
Oh, back tail.
Alright, that's going to do a 2.3.
So Gustavo Ribeiro will now move into third place.
But still.
The numbers say, right now, things are going to come down to the wire here in San Diego.
Beautiful.
Cat-back tail.
Fakie.
Two skaters we talked about.
Giovanni Biana.
Defending 2023 Super Crown Champion.
Just so much pop.
Love the way he sat on that front line.
So strong.
Ten seconds left.
Flawless run.
I think it was really strong.
There's just a couple little, I guess, little lulls maybe in there.
Like it started off strong.
Talk us through it.
Half-cat-back five.
And then we got the back-over crook.
All really good tricks here.
But, and then, you start to get into, you know, after the fakie front crook,
he just switched 180'd up the manual pad.
And then after this fakie tail slide, there's still time on the clock,
and he just 5-0'd the bump to ledge.
Just kind of ran out of juice in little parts of his run,
which...
8.5.
Great score, but I think that's why he's just a little bit lower than Jocelyn.
All right, Giovanni Biana.
He's about to reach into that deep bag of tricks.
Whoa!
So sick.
Talk us through it.
I mean, half-cab front smith.
Definitely one of the scarier tricks.
And then coming back out to fakie.
That takes a lot.
Takes a lot of pop.
Takes a lot of confidence.
8.7.
Giovanni Biana up in the top spot.
Giovanni Biana, 8.6 and an 8.7.
He needs a 6-1 to get into first.
You basically, .4, he needs to, like, sneeze to get into second.
A little more than a sneeze right there.
But it did involve his nose.
It's true.
I just love the way he does that trick.
He gets all the way around before putting the nose on the ledge.
Yeah, it's such a solid cab.
It whips around.
And it's spinning away from the hubba
and then getting your full body weight on top.
It's just so impressive.
9!
Giovanni Biana has moved up into the top spot.
Giovanni Biana.
He needs an 8.1 for second place.
That means he cannot win this.
It's a battle for second.
Dude, the progression here at SLS is mind-blowing.
Look at this.
Full cab, nose grind.
Through the kink.
And he could not have done it better.
Perfect.
Dude, the way he whips his body around with that cab, unbelievable.
See the celebration.
Cooking.
He's cooking.
All right, this might be my favorite new thing at SLS.
I like these celebrations a lot.
Giovanni Biana, unable to take out Sora Shirai,
but moves him up into second place.
What a magic moment right there.
End up in the final.
We've seen it done multiple times.
Oh, no.
The euro gap.
It's always so annoying when the euro gap gets you.
But there's a lot to be said for the skaters that
don't pass up all those obstacles.
Oh, for sure.
And that's why.
That's why they do it.
But when they don't, I think it should count for a lot.
Just throwing in those extra tricks is very risky.
I mean, he recovered nicely.
Yeah.
I mean, even though he missed the heel flip,
it should be an improvement on a 7.5.
Ollie Bixbent front board to fakie.
7.9.
So the judge is recognizing everything he did,
but also saying, well, you fell.
I mean, if you're going to miss it.
Come on here and capitalize on it.
All right.
I thought Manny was next.
OK, Gio, let's break the streak here.
There we go.
Nice.
Fakie crook down a massive hubbell.
So that looks fairly routine, and I get that.
But fakie ollie switch crook on something long and mellow
is so scary.
That was tweaked.
He did it perfect.
That's just one of those tech kind of like,
it's a weird one.
It's just like a, it's pretty dangerous,
and I think the judges will give this a good score.
But it doesn't look hard, but it is hard.
7.7 is going to be the score.
The singles always get away from him.
Classic Giovanni.
So he only needs a 1.3 to move into first.
He'll be way up in the lead.
Yeah, I mean, cab front board.
This Bank of Brazil replay.
Up and over.
It got a little swirly towards the end.
A little power slide.
Let's see if his, did his hand touch?
Nope.
Kept it off the ground.
Giovanni.
First skater in this group with three scores on the board.
When this one comes in.
See, I think this is 8.1.
I was talking to the judges.
I do think that this is one of the.
They're all in a position to win.
Giovanni Viana has to make this trick right here.
And he does it.
Cab front nose, fakie down that massive hubba.
Yeah, I mean, this is the defending champ.
And this is one of his signature moves too.
Sure he's not used to doing it on something this long,
but cab front nose to fakie coming out a little bit early,
but he did it pretty perfect.
So he will be the leader.
The only question is by how much,
And is there enough room for Desenzo and or Manny to catch him?
8.7 score.
Gives him a 32.4 overall.
He's in striking distance for these veterans.
So it's time for them to show what they have learned over their long career.
