Five affordable fragrances that smell super expensive.
Look, from time to time,
we know that perfumes are hundreds of dollars.
We don't want to spend that much money, right?
We want to cut costs.
We want to be cost-efficient.
We want to be frugal.
We don't want to spend tons of money on these luxury items.
And so occasionally if there's an alternative
or a dupe or a clone
or whatever you want to call that on the market,
sometimes we are quick to jump on the proverbial bandwagon.
I'm going to be sharing with you my thoughts
on five fragrances that are super affordable.
These are all that I would give a really high rating to
as far as the comparison between the original.
I've tested them side by side.
Some of them do things with a twist,
so they might be a little different
and I'll tell you how in just a second.
Now, before I begin today's episode
and I give you my thoughts on these five fragrances
that are all incredibly affordable,
they smell like more expensive fragrances.
Some of them are niche.
Some of them are designer.
One is a celebrity scent,
and I'll tell you which ones are marketed for men and women
and which ones are unisex.
I'll try to break down the whole thing, of course,
but before I start the video,
I do want to mention that if you're a fan
of fragrance-related content,
and of course, if you love smelling your best,
hit subscribe, hit the bell,
and also please give this video a thumbs up
for the algorithm.
It would really mean a lot to me.
So look, myself included,
when I see a fragrance that's selling for like $500,
I get incredibly discouraged,
even if it's from some of my favorite brands.
Now, here's the thing.
I don't mind paying sometimes, right?
Especially if I really love the brand
and I want to support them
and I want to support what they do.
Trust me, I have spent tens of thousands of dollars
on perfumes.
If not more, I'm a little embarrassed to share
how much I've actually spent on fragrances,
but occasionally we find ourselves
really loving a fragrance,
but for whatever reason,
it's not feasible for us to cough up that much money.
The first one I want to talk about
is Santal 33 by Le Labo.
The sandalwood, the papyrus, the vetiver,
that earthy nature that it has underneath,
and of course, a little bit of cedarwood as well.
It contains 33 ingredients,
hence the namesake of the perfume.
This one is composed by Frank Bockel, amazing perfumer.
And this is such a beautiful fragrance.
It is so characteristic of the brand
and it captures the brand's ethos.
And whenever you think of Le Labo,
Santal 33 is mentioned in the same breath.
It seems like other fragrances from the brand,
whether we're talking about Rose 31 or Benjamin 19
or Aldehyde 44 or Bergamot 22,
none of them have achieved the stature and the status
that this fragrance has achieved ever since its release.
And it's such an amazing fragrance.
Well, in place of Santal 33 by the brand Joe Milano,
so they have a collection called Game of Spades.
This one is called Bid,
and they're all inspired by card games,
at least from this collection, right?
And this one smells like Santal 33.
So if you like Santal 33,
perhaps you want an experience that is,
dare I say, a bit smoother,
not as spicy, not as peppery,
please check out Bid.
I think Bid is a solid alternative to Santal 33.
And the more important part is
you're gonna be saving a lot of money, right?
The next fragrance by Tom Ford is Effing Fabulous.
You've all heard about this one.
This is of course a fragrance that came out many years ago.
So it's almond and leather.
It's very expressive.
It's very extroverted.
And I like it because it's not overly sweet
and the leather is not overly harsh
or rough and tumble or aggressive.
It actually strikes a really nice balance
between being extroverted and wanting of attention,
if I can say that, but also being a bit demure.
So I really like this fragrance.
It strikes a nice balance.
Instead of that, you can get,
and they changed the name of it by Dossier.
I think now it's called Ambery Sage.
So Ambery Sage, again, very similar.
All the notes are written on there.
Bitter almond, sage, lavender, leathery notes,
oris, vanilla, tonka beans.
So I like it.
It strikes a balance between being sweet and playful,
but also being a bit on the reserved
and classy side of things.
I really do enjoy it.
Now, of course, this next one,
beautiful fragrance, Perseus by Parfum de Marly.
I think Parfum de Marly really knocked it
out of the park with this one.
And you've heard the criticism, right?
People say this one smells like Terre d'Hermes.
People say it smells like Isola Blue by Roger Parfum.
So there are a lot of brands that have utilized this DNA,
this earthy, clean, citrusy, vetiver fragrance,
but this one is incredibly long lasting,
and it has this characteristic musk dry down.
Instead of that, and this is one that I think is brand new,
or I recently acquired it by La Taffa.
It's called Art of Wood.
Beautiful bottle on this presentation as well.
It has a really nice texture to it.
I know you can't feel it,
and the wood here is embossed,
and it has the tree on the inside.
This is really, really cool fragrance.
So it smells like Perseus.
However, there's more vanilla.
So if you can imagine a sweeter Perseus,
that's exactly what you're gonna get with this one.
Really nice.
Especially if you thought of Perseus
as being one of those great spring
and summer types of fragrances.
If you wanna make it a bit more autumnal,
you can add that cozy vanilla in the La Taffa counterpart.
It's actually really, really good.
All right, we have two Marlies on this list.
This one for a lot of people is gonna be
the characteristic quintessential autumn fragrance
that the brand has to offer,
and it's none other than Altair.
This is a beautiful vanilla fragrance.
It's sweet, it's creamy, it's silky, it's smooth.
It's very, very well blended.
And of course, this one for a lot of people
is gonna be the number one false scent.
When we're thinking of other fragrances from the brand,
whether it be, you know, Carlisle, or Holtane,
or Herod, or Pegasus Exclusive,
or Layton Exclusive, or what have you,
all of those fragrances are, in my opinion,
better suited for the wintertime.
The longevity is there, the lasting power is there.
This one, however, screams fall.
Instead of getting that, uh-oh, another La Taffa.
Art of nature two, not one.
One has a camel on the front.
I don't own it, but I think I vaguely remember
seeing images online, and I think
there's a camel on the front.
This one has two horses, an adult horse and a baby horse.
But it's a beautiful presentation.
I mean, even the bottle itself looks so artistic.
And of course, this one just smells like Altair.
They got it super close to the original.
Why call a fragrance art of nature
if it's a vanilla fragrance?
I thought maybe this could've been the Perseus,
and this could've been the Altair, but it is what it is.
Art of nature two, beautiful alternative to Altair.
So the fragrance in the number one spot,
I think, is marketed for women, right?
So the Marlies are marketed for men,
even though there are a lot of women
that really enjoy wearing Altair.
The Tom Ford and the Dossier alternative
are totally unisex, as is Scentel 33.
But the fragrance in the number one spot,
I believe, is marketed for women.
It's a designer scent, of course.
And this is also a fantastic fall perfume.
So if you enjoy wearing Gourmand fragrances,
and I'm talking like Gourmand, Gourmand, right?
So there's marshmallow, there's vanilla,
there's candied ginger, you have a little bit of jasmine,
you have coconut milk in the fragrance as well.
So it's utterly delicious.
And at first, I thought it was giving me
Love Don't Be Shy by Killian or Oriana by Marley Vibes,
until I did a bit more research
and I saw what this one was really trying to emulate.
And it's trying to emulate a perfume by Sabrina Carpenter,
and it's called Sweet Tooth.
You've seen it in the pink bottle,
looks like a chocolate bar.
This fragrance is a gorgeous Gourmand.
I think a lot of people will argue
that it's feminine-leaning,
and I would agree to a large extent.
And this one by Paris Corner is called Kisa Delicious.
And again, as the name implies,
it is a delicious Gourmand perfume.
I think it could be unisex, a little feminine-leaning,
but let me know.
Have you tried any of these,
or are you looking forward to trying any of these fragrances?
I would love to hear from you,
and I always appreciate the interaction.
It means a lot to me, so drop your comment down below.
