Why Biden Looks Like a Giant Next to President Jimmy Carter
A photo of President #JoeBiden and first lady Jill Biden alongside former President #JimmyCarter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, is making waves online. The Bidens look gigantic next to the Carters, who appear oddly smaller in comparison. A White House photographer snapped the photo when the couples were visiting the Carter home in Georgia last week, prompting thousands of comments. So what is exactly going on here? One theory is that the Carters, 96 and 93, have become smaller in their old age.
What the heck is going on in this wacky photo?
It doesn't even look real, but it is.
When President Biden and the First Lady
visited Jimmy and Rosalind Carter in Georgia last week,
a White House photographer snapped a photo
that's launched a thousand memes.
Land of the giants.
Honey, I shrunk the Carters.
This one uses a scene from the movie Elf.
Biden meets Carter.
So what's going on here?
Why do the Bidens look like giants
One reason is the age of the Carters.
The former president is 96.
Rosalind is 93.
Putting it plainly, they've shrunk.
As we get older, we actually lose
a significant amount of height.
We lose about a quarter of an inch for every decade,
starting at the age of 30.
Another factor to consider,
notice the Carters are also sinking
into the cushioned upholstery.
Another reason is the wide-angle lens
the photographer had to use
to fit all four people into the shot.
So we're gonna see if we can recreate that.
I'm President Biden.
There's Jill.
Here are the Carters.
Let's see how it turns out.
Check it out.
Now it's me who looks like a giant.
So now you know.
