We're going to completely transform this decrepit falling apart walkway for you today guys in just
two minutes. We're going to do it step by step and we're going to commit a major mortal sin
along the way while doing it. We're going to combine two products that have never been
combined before and probably should never be combined but the homeowner's requesting it and
the homeowners are the one that pays our bills baby so we're going to do it. Now that we got
that old walkway removed and we have eight inches of densely graded aggregate down it's time to put
our one inch steel conduit pipes. We use electrical conduit pipes that are steel for this.
We level them to each other, make sure there's pitch running from the steps down to the driveway
and we want one inch of bedding stone. For bedding stone we personally choose 3-8 bedding stone.
We find out it works the best. This is what we use. We put it in and we screed it all the way
down to the driveway as shown. We put it down, we rake it out and we screed. This took about
three quarters ton of stone for this particular process. Now as you can see we're just using two
different size 2x4s, one to get in between the pillars and one to get beyond them and we pull
all the way down to screed. We do not leave these poles in. We get a lot of questions about the poles.
We always remove the poles and then we fill back in and we trowel or float out so it's perfectly
smooth and flat but has pitch. The beauty of 3-8 bedding stone is you can walk on it and it
compacts itself. You don't have to worry about little holes or whatever when you're laying your
pavers. We do our border first. The mortal sin I was telling you guys about is we are going to
combine techo block pavers and we're going to have a Cambridge paver border. Again, not a fan of it.
Probably would never do it. Probably shouldn't do it but they wanted it so we're doing it. All the
pavers are laid. We have absolutely zero four corners. It is Eva techo block paver with shale
gray and the border is a brown 6x9 brick. Excuse me, I don't even know if it's 6x9. Also it's a
brown. I don't even know the exact color of it. It's actually going to look very nice and if you
stay all the way to the end you're going to see a before and after of what this project looked like.
So we have to tie into an existing driveway so that's a bit tricky. Now we have to get all these
leaves off because it is fall and they are absolutely everywhere. Now here's the completed
paver look. It's time to sweep in our polymeric sand. We sweep it in absolutely everywhere but
we leave a dusting over top of it. Then we take our dead blow hammer and we beat down absolutely
everywhere to make the pavers the polymeric sand sink down even further. Then we go through with
a fine tooth comb with our white wash brush. Then we take the shower setting. 30 seconds on
the shower setting. Start at your highest point. Work your way down. Then we hit the blower. Get
everything off and here is our completed look. Here's the before. Here's the after.
