Hey everyone, it's Sam here from Sugar Spun Run, and today I'm sharing a super simple recipe for homemade lemonade.
Today's recipe is one of the simplest I have ever shared on the blog. This recipe for homemade lemonade uses just three ingredients.
It's completely from scratch, super simple. So let's get started. Now the first thing you're going to need is a small saucepan.
We're going to be making a simple syrup. So to the saucepan, we're going to add one cup of water,
and one cup of granulated sugar.
Now we're just going to stir together our sugar and our water over low heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Now this step of making a simple syrup, it only takes a couple seconds, and what it's doing by dissolving the sugar,
it means you're not going to have any grittiness in your lemonade.
You're not going to stir it as much as you would otherwise have to.
It's a simple step that only takes a few seconds, and it can make all the difference in your lemonade.
Once our sugar is dissolved, we can go ahead and remove our simple syrup from the heat,
and we're just going to set that aside for a while, let it cool for a little bit while we prepare our lemon juice.
Now you will need one cup of lemon juice for this recipe.
I really recommend using fresh squeezed lemons, though my family very often will use bottled lemon juice instead.
Now I found that I usually need about three to four nice-sized lemons to get a cup of lemon juice.
And if you have a nice lemon juicer, you can definitely use that. I don't have one, so I'm just doing this by hand.
Now when you're making lemonade, it's great to have that pulp in the lemonade for flavor,
but you definitely don't want any seeds. To help keep the seeds out, but let the pulp through,
I like to use a mesh strainer, and I'll just strain my lemon juice through that to catch any seeds.
Once you have your lemon juice measured out, you have one cup of lemon juice.
We're going to set that aside, and now you're going to need to grab a pitcher.
Now today's recipe makes one half gallon of lemonade.
You can easily double this to make a whole gallon. That works perfectly. We do it all the time.
Now before I add anything else to this pitcher, I usually like to add a few lemon slices.
This is mostly just for garnish. You can totally skip this step if you want to.
It just makes the lemonade look a little bit more pretty. Now we'll add our lemon juice to the pitcher,
and we're also going to add our simple syrup.
Now the last thing that you need to add is five and a half cups of water.
Now if you like your lemonade a little bit more tart, you can add less water.
I usually like to keep mine a little under five cups.
Now give everything a good stir.
You'll want to make sure that you chill your lemonade really well before serving,
or if you want to drink it right away, just pour it over ice.
And that is how you make homemade lemonade. No powder mixes required.
I really hope you guys try this one out.
It is super simple, so it'll only take you a few minutes,
and if you like it, I would love to hear what you think.
If you don't like it, I'd love to hear what you think.
