[For beginners in pottery] How to use "tanned skin".

Hello everyone. Thank you for watching my video.
I'm Kiraku from Tojiki Kobo.
This time, I would like to explain the tools of pottery.
What I'm going to explain is the Nameshigawa.
I think most of you clean your mouth with this Nameshigawa when you make pottery.
This time, I would like to introduce the basic usage of this Nameshigawa and how to use it a little more.
First of all, I will make a vessel.
First, dig a hole in the middle, spread it out, and stretch it up.
Next, spread the clay thinly.
Spread the bottom area and stretch it up and up.
Stretch it up from there again.
I think the vessel is almost ready.
Let's take a look at how to use it.
I will clean my mouth with Nameshigawa.
If you look at it now, you can see that the edge of the clay is rattling.
This is to clean the Nameshigawa at the end.
It's to make your mouth look better.
In my case, I put my index finger on top and hold it like this.
I put the edge lightly in between.
If you put it on, it feels like you're crushing the corners with your index finger.
The mouth becomes round.
This is how I finish it.
Other than that, you can hit it with your forefinger and pinch it with your index finger and thumb.
I think there are many people who do it like this.
I think these two ways are mainly used, pinching with your index finger and pinching with your thumb.
This is not wrong.
Next, I will introduce how to apply it.
I'll take it off once.
This is how I applied it.
I'm making a bowl now.
As you can see, the edge of the clay is rattling.
I will clean my mouth with Nameshigawa at the end.
This is the same way as before.
What I want you to be aware of is not only cleaning the edge with Nameshigawa.
If you use Nameshigawa to tighten the clay in the mouth, the level of pottery will increase.
I'll show you how to do it.
As before, pinch the edge with your index finger and thumb.
After that, press it from above with your right thumb.
Then, it feels like you're tightening it with your index finger and thumb.
It feels like you're tightening it with your index finger and thumb.
The clay will tighten more.
So, it's not just about cleaning your mouth.
It's an image of tightening the clay in the mouth, increasing the density, and increasing the strength.
Can you see that I'm holding it down from above?
Then, when you use it, it will be harder to pinch the mouth.
I'll take it off once.
Next, I'll show you how to apply it.
When you make Rokuro, there are many times when you try to make it thin, but you only make the mouth thin.
It's like this, and the edge is sharp.
In this case, you can use the skin to clean the edge again.
This is how to apply it.
I'm holding it down from above, and I'm waiting for the edge to get thicker.
I'm holding it down from above with my index finger and thumb.
If you make the pressure from above a little stronger, can you see that the edge is getting a little thicker?
It's getting a little potted, isn't it?
If you apply it like this, you can tighten the edge of the thinner bowl again.
I think it's very effective to use it like this.
So, if you pay attention to the third point, you can make a very cool work.
I think it will be a work that makes it even harder to apply the edge.
I think it's good to remember how to use it.
As you can see from the videos I usually make, I often apply the skin.
The reason why I apply the skin is because I want to tighten the clay at the edge.
When I make it, the density of the clay at the edge is low, so if I spread it out or change the shape, the edge will crack.
In particular, sand clay tends to be affected by the edge.
If you stretch it a little, you can tighten the edge with the skin.
If you change the shape a little, you can tighten the edge with the skin.
If you use it with the image of tightening the edge with the skin, you can master how to use the skin.
So, I think it's better to think of it as a tool to tighten the edge of the clay rather than just an item to clean the edge.
Also, when you make a large work, you can make a beautiful work by tightening the edge.
I'd like to take a look at the cross section.
The first one is a bowl that I cleaned the edge without thinking about anything.
The next one is a bowl that I tightened the edge with the image of tightening the edge.
The right one is a bowl that I made the edge thinner and made it thicker again with the skin.
I'd like to take a look at the cross section.
The first one is a bowl that I made the edge thinner and made it thicker again with the skin.
The second one is a bowl that I tightened the edge with the image of tightening the edge.
The first one is a bowl that I tightened the edge with the image of tightening the edge.
On the contrary, this area is a little thinner.
This area is thinner and the edge is round.
So, by tightening the edge three times, the upper part of the clay becomes a little rounder.
The clay tightens and the hardness of the baked product becomes stronger.
If you just hit this one, the edge will become thinner and thinner.
As you go to the top, it becomes easier to sharpen and the hardness becomes weaker.
I made the edge thinner and made it thicker again with the skin.
Compared to the bowl that I made the edge thinner and made it thicker again with the skin, it looks the same.
The lower part is thinner and the upper part is rounder.
If you can use the skin well, you can make the thin clay thicker again.
This time, I explained how to use the skin when shaping.
Of course, you can clean the edge by sandwiching it on both sides.
However, if you tighten the edge of the clay with the image of tightening the edge three times, the hardness of the edge becomes stronger.
For example, some people say that it is better to have a thin edge with a coffee cup.
If you are such a person, you should do it like this.
However, the hardness of the pottery is weak.
The edge of the clay will chip when you use it.
I think that coffee cups are often made with ceramic vessels.
Ceramic vessels have a high density of clay and are tightly baked, so the hardness is strong.
If you make it in the same way as pottery, the edge will chip.
Pottery is more absorbent, so if you use it in water, it will become brittle.
I think that you should think about how to make it and make it.
The edge of the ceramic vessel is thin, so if you try to make it as thin as pottery, it will chip when you use it.
I think that you should be aware of that.
Please refer to it and make a wonderful work.
