Like so many other music therapists and music educators, my early childhood and preschool music classes are currently on hold due to the COVID-19 crisis. But just because we can't be together in person doesn't mean we can't continue to make music together!
Each week, I'll be recording a 30-45 minute class for young children to watch at home. Classes will include singing along, playing instruments (including homemade ones!), gross and fine motor movement, addressing developmental skills, and most importantly...having FUN!
Here are the recommended instruments and props for Week 1:
bean bags (or baggies filled with beans, rice, or popcorn) shakers (or water bottles/plastic eggs filled with the materials above) lollipop drum (or pan with a wooden spoon for a mallet)
And if you would like to join me LIVE for my weekly virtual classes, I'll be offering 3 livestreams each week via Zoom. Follow the link below for details and registration:
Hey friends, it's me Rachel Rambach, but lots of you know me as Miss Rachel. I'm so sad that
we aren't able to meet in person this week, but this is the next best thing. So you can
watch music class and even sing along and play along and dance along with me as I sing our songs
just like we do in music class together. So we're going to start by singing our hello song. Are you
ready? Welcome, welcome everyone. Are you ready to have some fun? We'll sing and dance and learn in
music class today. All right, thank you for singing the hello song with me. The next thing we're going
to do is talk about the season. Did you know that this is the first week of spring? That means
winter is over so we can wave goodbye to winter and we can say hello to spring. So that is just
what we're going to do in this next song and I want you to listen very carefully because I'm
going to give you some directions as I sing. Here we go.
Can you put your hands and your arms way up and wave them like this?
And clear, clear the tree, sing and wave along with me.
I see those toes tapping, oh tap your toes, oh tap your toes and sing. Sing because spring is finally here. Sing because the sky is blue. And clear the tree, sing and tap along with me.
One of the things that happens a whole lot during the spring
is rain. In fact, it's been raining here all day. So I thought we could sing a song all about
the raindrops and you might even know this song. So if you do, would you sing along with me?
All right, let's give it a try. All the raindrops were letting drops and gumdrops, I was standing
Can you try singing that part with me? Let's try it.
Rainy days can be a little bit of a bummer because that means we can't go outside and play.
But one of the really, really, really good things about rain is that it makes all the plants and
the flowers and the trees bloom and grow during the spring. So this song is all about the grass
growing around and around. Now there's something special about this song. There's a part after I
sing where you repeat after me. Okay, so that means you'll have to listen carefully and then sing the
same words that I sing. Okay, should we try it? Here we go.
Grew all around, all around and the green grass grew all around. Okay, get ready to listen and
repeat after me. In this hole, there was a tree, the prettiest tree that you ever did see.
The tree in the hole, in the hole, in the ground, and the green grass grew all around, all around,
the green grass grew all around. Okay, we're gonna keep going. The limp on the tree, in the tree,
in the hole, in the hole, in the ground, in the green, the green grass grew all around. The branch
there was a twig, the twig on the branch, in the branch, on the limb, in the limb, tree, in the tree,
in the hole, the egg, and then that branch, and the branch, on the limb, the limb, on the tree,
in the tree, in the hole. Do you have any guesses about what might be inside that egg? Let's find
out if you're right. It's in this egg. Is that what you guessed? Good job. The prettiest bird
you ever did see. The bird in the egg, in the egg, in the neck, in the twig, on the branch,
in the branch, on the limb, on the tree, in the tree, in the hole, in the hole, in the ground.
A whole lot of energy. Thanks for singing along with me. You know, I bet after all the singing
you've been doing, you're probably getting a little bit hungry. So maybe we could all take
a little snack break right now, and I have the perfect snack for us. Are you ready for it?
How about a tasty banana? Now you might not have shaky bananas at home, but if you have
bananas that are real that you can eat, this is the perfect time to eat one because I've got a
song all about bananas. Some of you know this song really, really well because it's one of our
favorites in music class. So if you know it, I would love for you to sing it with me. Are you
ready? Let's do it.
Banana.
My favorite fruit is a banana.
Pretty tasty? I think I'm going to have one after music class gets over.
But right now, we're going to go for a little ride. We're going to think about all the things
that we might see out the window of our car. So let's use our imaginations. Okay, you ready?
Can you guess what I see out my window? Did somebody say a roller coaster? That's right.
Now I want to see if I can guess what you see out your window. Ready?
A rainbow? Yeah? All right, let's see what else we can see.
A giant tree? Oh, good one. All right, let's do one more.
Do you see Disney World? We had so much fun going for a ride.
All right, everyone. The next thing I'm going to grab from my collection over here
is my bean bag. Now you might not have a bean bag at home. So if you don't, maybe you could
fill up a little baggie full of beans or rice or anything that makes a nice, squishy feeling
snack that you can toss back and forth. So if you need to pause this video to go get your bean bag
or make your own bean bag, you can pause right now. All right, now that we've got our bean bags,
we're going to practice making them hop from one hand to the next. Can you try that with me?
All right, so we're going to keep making them hop just like this, back and forth,
as we sing our song. Here we go.
Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. From hand to hand, make the bean bag hop.
Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. Back and forth, don't let it drop.
Now freeze and hold your bean bag still. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
until I tell you where to put it now. On your elbow, show me how.
Can you show me how to balance that bean bag on your elbow? Very good. Now let's make it
hop into our hands. Let's keep going. Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. From hand to hand,
make the bean bag hop. Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. Back and forth, don't let it drop.
Now freeze and hold your bean bag still. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, until I tell you where
to put it now. On your head, show me how. Can you balance your bean bag on your head?
Let me see you try. Very good. Now can you make that bean bag hop from your head into your hands?
Let's try it. Uh-oh. Here it is. Okay, let's try it again. Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop.
From hand to hand, make the bean bag hop. Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. Back and forth,
don't let it drop. Now freeze and hold your bean bag still. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
until I tell you where to put it now. On your shoulder, show me how. Can you balance on your
shoulder? Very good. Now can we make that bean bag hop from our shoulder into our hands? Let's try
it. Here we go. Hop. Good job. Okay, we're going to do one more. You ready? Shoo-wop,
shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. From hand to hand, make the bean bag hop. Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop,
bop, shabop. Back and forth, don't let it drop. Now freeze and hold your bean bag still. Wait,
wait, wait, wait, wait, until I tell you where to put it now. On your hand, show me how.
Nice balancing. Now we're going to make that bean bag hop into our other hand. Okay,
one last time. Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. From hand to hand, make the bean bag hop.
Shoo-wop, shoo-wada-wop, bop, shabop. Back and forth, don't let it drop. Now you can let that
bean bag drop. For our next song, I grabbed some shakers to shake along. Now if you don't have
shakers at home, that's okay because you can make your own. You can take a water bottle or some
plastic Easter eggs and fill them with beans or popcorn or rice, anything that'll give you this
nice shaky sound. So if you need to pause this video and go run and make your shakers and then
come back, you can do that right now. Okay, got your shakers? We're going to start shaking just
like this and we're going to make a nice tasty treat together. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate,
hot, hot, hot. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate. Let's make a cup of hot chocolate.
Okay, get ready for the first step. Step one, we'll stir the chocolate. Stir it round and round.
Stir that chocolate. Everybody stir the chocolate. We're stirring it round and round and shake. Hot,
hot, hot, hot chocolate, hot, hot, hot. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate. Let's make a cup of hot chocolate.
Step two, we'll add the marshmallows. Pour them into our cup. Lots of marshmallows.
Everybody add the marshmallows. We're pouring them into our cup. Let's shake. Hot, hot, hot,
hot chocolate, hot, hot, hot. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate. Let's make a cup of hot chocolate.
Step three, we'll blow the steam away. Blow like this. Ready?
Everybody blow the steam away. We'll blow like this
and shake. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate, hot, hot, hot. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate. Let's
make a cup of hot chocolate. Here comes the last step. Step four, we'll take a little sip.
Enjoy this tasty treat. Can you take a little sip?
Yum. Everybody take a little sip. Enjoy this tasty treat. Another sip.
And shake. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate, hot, hot, hot. Hot, hot, hot, hot chocolate. Let's
make a cup of hot chocolate. All right, everyone. I'm going to grab another instrument for our next
song. I've got my lollipop drum here. Now, even if you don't have a lollipop drum at home,
you can use anything. You can use a pot or a pan or anything you can hold in one hand
and then take a spoon or something else that you can hit with the other thing that you're holding
in your other hand to make a nice drumming sound. You can drum along while I play my song.
It's called Lollipop, Lollipop. All right, let's hear those drums.
Lollipop, lollipop, oh lolly, lolly, lolly, lollipop, lollipop, oh lolly, lolly, lolly, lollipop,
lollipop, oh lolly, lolly, lolly, lollipop,
and when I play it makes a sound. Lollipop, oh lolly, lolly, lolly, lollipop, drum way up high,
up above my head, up to the sky. Can you play your lollipop drum way down low? Down to the ground,
can you play your lollipop down low to lollipop? Everyone, we have done lots of singing, lots of
playing instruments, both the ones that you might already have and some that you made yourself,
but now we're going to take some time to get the rest of our wiggles out.
So we're going to sing a song all about dancing and counting, okay? So we're going to start by
dancing, but listen carefully because I've got some directions for you to follow, okay?
Here we go, get ready to dance, let me see your best move.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance is just for fun, but we'll stop dancing while we count to one and
three. Everybody help me count to one, ready? One and dance. Dance, dance, dance, dance, dancing with you,
but we'll stop dancing while we count to two and three. Okay, let's count to two, ready? One, two.
But we'll stop dancing while we count to three. Okay, this time we're going to count to three,
ready? One, two, three. And dance, dance, dance, dance, dancing even more, but we'll stop dancing
while we count to four. Okay, can you count to four with me, ready? One, two, three, four, and dance.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dancing to this jive, but we'll stop dancing while we count to five and three.
Let's count to five, one, two, three, four, and dance. Dance, dance, dance, dance, dancing just for kicks, but we'll stop dancing while we count to six.
Everybody help me count to six. One, two, three, four, five, six. All right, get ready.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dancing, my friends, but we'll stop dancing because then. Are you as tired as I am?
Well, it is time for us to pull down a little bit before we sing goodbye
with one of my favorite songs. This one is called
Don't Worry, Be Happy, and I think it's a pretty good song to sing right about now.
Well, I want to say thank you so much for coming to music class with me today,
and I hope we get to do this a whole lot more, and hopefully we'll get to do it in person
sooner than later, but until next time, we've got one more song to sing,
and that is our goodbye song.
See you next time.
