THIS is Sailing the South Pacific⛵️

Sailing to the World

This week we invited some friends aboard and sailed from Tahiti to Moraya.
Although it was a short sail, we seemed to experience a wide variety of conditions,
from smooth sailing to rough motoring and everything in between.
Well, the trip was worth it.
Ray is actually cleaning the windows right now because it's so beautiful here.
We want to be able to see it clearly.
Join us while we explore a new island both above and below the waterline.
I'm Holly. That's Ray.
And this is our home, Sabado.
Together we've sailed the east coast of the United States, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean.
And now we've begun the next leg of our circumnavigation, the Pacific.

Ray ordered these remotes off of Amazon for like 15 bucks.
I think they were originally designed to be for off-roading wenches,
but he has set them up to be wireless windlass remotes.
Genius.
So much for a perfectly clean boat.
It's beautiful out here.
I took a little bit of a break because things were
kind of doom and gloom for me for a little while there.
I have been dealing with a shoulder injury since early July,
and it got to the point where I couldn't sleep through the night.
So I have been chronically sleep-deprived,
which just makes dealing with any minor inconvenience feel like the end of the world.
I just was not feeling like myself, but I'm happy to report that I'm doing much better now.
I was able to fly back to the U.S. for just a few days,
long enough to pull off a pretty great surprise for my mom, who had no idea I was coming.
And I was also able to see a couple of doctors and pick up some supplies I needed for the boat.
So yeah, you probably had to redo that whole clip because I was doing my balls.
Really? Oh, so life is good again, and we're on the move.
We're not going far today.
We're just actually pulling back into an anchorage that we have spent
quite a bit of our time in Tahiti at, and we've got some friends coming to visit.
So let's go pick them up.
That was a gust of wind.
It went from zero to 11.
Wow, I can see.
Look who it is!
We've decided to just head right back out where we were because it's much nicer out there.
We haven't seen Nick and Megan since they visited us in Grenada last year,
so we're happy to have them back aboard.
Should we go out and do a picture for Dean before I put these on?
Sure.
I just made Clayton white.
Cute!
We definitely did not want to do dishes, but Holly quit talking to us.
I was like, Megan, is there something wrong?
She's like, yeah, we're not doing dishes.
Holly's like, get up.
She thinks she's in management.
Where are we going?
That's the plan.
Roughly how far, how long is that?
Well, if we have to motor the whole way, probably five and a half hours.
I see you have a reason.
Well, you know, it's an abundance of caution.
We've got guests on board, so we don't want to scare them.
They've never sailed before.
No, I'm a little nervous.
You know, we don't want to have, we don't want to power this beast up too much
and then all of a sudden they'll be like, we don't, wow, we don't need a performance cab.
Scare us away.
Yeah, but we'll, hopefully we'll get out there and there'll be some wind that we can sail
and it should be like a four hour sail.
You know what, we have no appointments, so.
Whether we get there in four hours or four weeks, they don't matter.
Wind is not on our side at the moment.
Ray's pulling out the gennaker in anticipation.
Seven knots and 11 knots.
Not bad.
Pretty close to champagne sailing.
It really is nice.
If we didn't have the swell, you know, we could turn down a little bit and knock that off.
Beautiful sunny day.
Perfect temperature out here.
Good sailing and great company.
What more can we ask for?
Yeah, fishy fishy.
Wind got a little bit gusty on us, so we're switching the gennaker out to jib.
That gennaker is good for up to 20 knots, but we always pull it at 15.
Even with that reef in the main, our speed is looking good.
These waves are pushing us right along.
Is it seaweed?
No.
We've got around 15 knots of wind and we're working our way out of the shadow of Tahiti,
so things will likely change here pretty soon.
I'm keeping an eye on this guy, tugboat.
Might be heading to Marea too.
It's become really unpleasant.
The wind is right on our nose.
We've dropped the sails and are motoring the rest of the way to Marea.
Hopefully we're almost there.
We're surfing our way in here.
Yeah, there's no barriers.
They're all, they're all in sync.
All right, anchor is down.
It's windy.
I was gonna spill that one.
No, I need two at a time.
Can you tell me about these tortillas?
They are sourdough, homemade.
This will mark the end of a two-month fast on tortillas.
I was given your permission.
There's no tortillas.
If we're going for it, we're going for it.
With sourdough.
Who's filming that light?
Oh my god, I gotta clear the bottom.
I'll do that when we get back.
There's a local up ahead catching and killing something.
We were gonna go see what it was but
the closer we get, the more sharks are circling.
So we're gonna go home.
All right, I did just the fiberglass between the bottom paint and the boot stripe.
And I'm gonna do the hulls for another day
because we're actually making fun of right now
and I don't want bottom paint all over the place.
It doesn't take too long.
It's just some soft growth concentrated right along the water line.
Cleaning the hulls is not a fun job by any means
but it's definitely a privilege to have a boat to clean.
Plus it's a good workout.
Wind is picking up again.
I guess we won't be going to shore for dinner.
I'm just gonna have a...
We're gonna have a montage.
That's what we're gonna do.
We're gonna have a montage of all of your various delicacies.
Yeah, and you can freeze all hard cheeses
but they crumble really easily after you seal it.
This huge chunk just came off.
Wow, what a perfect morning.
This view could be a postcard.
Are we done today leaving?
We're just motoring over to the next bay.
You know, a little change of scenery.
Where's mama?
Yay, first...
Okay, this is our new anchorage.
It's really well protected and absolutely stunning.
Ray is actually cleaning the windows right now because it's so beautiful here.
We want to be able to see it clearly.
I know you're doing that on purpose.
Stop, it's cold.
We are hiking to a lookout point.
We made it.
Wow, this is amazing.
We got a man down.
How you doing down there, Megan?
There are just fields of pineapples here.
I didn't know they grew them here.
Gotta get one to try.
Oh, is it yummy?
Smells yummy.
Thinking about leaving tomorrow.
That's it for this week, guys.
Thank you so much for watching.
We are so happy to be back to posting in real time,
so check back next week to see what we get into.
