Namaskaram Born in a Vaishnavite family right from my childhood I grew up in an atmosphere filled with divine hymns of the great Alvars For some time now I was drawn to the idea of setting to dance the love theme,Siriya Tirumadal as conceived by Tirumangai Alvar The recital begins with a verse by Manavala Mamunigal in praise of Tirumangai Alvar This is followed by a description in Alvar's own words of how he assumed the role of Parakala Naika and his experiences thereof Then my mother performed a forbidden puja to the god Shasta As even that failed to cure me some elderly ladies suggested a remedy sent for the soothsayer called Kattivichi and asked her to diagnose the nature of my illness and its cause One way or the other we shall get to know the truth they said and left Kattivichi the nomadic soothsayer enters the scene on her own She is asked by the sakhis to diagnose the ailment of Parakala Naika Kattivichi scatters some paddy all around before soothsaying He measured this earth He destroyed Lanka He saved the cowherds from a rain of stones by holding the Govardhana hill like an umbrella and he churned the ocean to get Amrita After saying this the gypsy departs Now desperate Naika says resolutely I have no other option left but to resort to Madal Urgal to see him I shall visit Tiruvengadam Tirukovilur Tirukudandai Tiruvarangam and other sacred places and speak about his misdeeds To get him a bad name I shall compose another Sahasranamam accuse him in as many words and do Madal Urgal on all important streets to spite him I shall not mind even if the citizens of every town speak ill of me after having given vent to her feelings her aggression subsides the Parakala Naika calms down and comes back to her normal self 我心中的歌聲 Siriya Tirumadal portrays the absolute surrender of the Jivatma and his ultimate union with the Almighty thus expounding the profound philosophy of Vaishnavism It is a delightful convergence of literature, art and metaphysics that forms the very edifice of Indian heritage in general and the Bhakti movement fostered by our great Alvars in particular We hope you enjoy this presentation Thank you and Namaskaram
