There have been speculations and rumors flying around that this Boston Celtics team is now
washed.
And yes, they didn't have a good December.
They went in just 8-6.
But as a team trying to repeat in the NBA, it's not feasible to go out and win 75 games
a year, giving it your all for the entire regular season, and then still going deep
into June.
These teams need to coast, they need to take breaks, and that's simply all this Boston
team is doing.
This isn't the first time, as a matter of fact, that we've seen a team like this do
that.
Today, we're going to take a look at the 2017 Warriors, a team that many people consider
the greatest basketball team of all time, and look at, you know, they also had a month
in the season where they were 6-6, and people maybe were a little bit concerned, but the
Celtics just threw away any doubters in this most recent westward road trip where they
took on five of the best teams in the NBA.
Well, four, we're not going to count Toronto and their 71 points as one of the best teams
in the NBA.
But after that 50-point thrashing north of the border, they beat Minnesota, then they
beat Houston.
Minnesota, of course, went to the Western Conference Finals last year, and Houston's
got the No. 2-rated defense in the league, before dropping a game to Oklahoma City and
then bouncing back last night vs. Denver.
Yes, there were some key injuries here and there, but the Celtics were also playing without
Jalen Brown and Derek White for parts of this road trip.
So no, this team is not in trouble.
Instead, let's take a look at them compared to the 2017 Warriors and show you how good
this team actually is.
From February 13th to March 13th of 2017, the fabled Golden State Warriors that were
many considered, like we said, the greatest team of all time with KD, Steph, Klay, Draymond,
Andre Iguodala, a solid bench to go on top of that, they were 6-6 during that month.
Yes, that includes the All-Star break, so they were coasting a little bit, but they
had losses to a 13-seeded Timberwolves team and a sub-500 Nuggets team with a baby Jokic.
This is the norm.
Teams like this do coast from time to time because it is impossible to ask your body
to play at the highest level for 82 games from October to the middle of April and then
continue to play until the end of June and then start right back up in training camp
and preseason games in September.
Ever since Kawhi ended the wrath of Golden State in 2019, we have been blessed to see
a good amount of parity in the NBA.
As a matter of fact, the Celtics are now attempting to complete what would be just the first repeat
champion since those Warriors did just that back in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
And it was not just in that first season with KD in the bay that they did this.
In the second year, 2017-18, where they once again won another NBA championship, they went
58-24 and they started the season 51-14.
After that stretch, they finished the year 7-10 and limped into the playoffs.
Now yes, Steph was battling back from injury, KD was battling injuries, and then of course
they were able to sneak past the Houston Rockets and beat the Cavs in the championship, but
still teams tend to do this.
They will rest their stars.
There's no reason for the Celtics to go out and play Jason Tatum 82 games this year.
The Hornets, my unfortunate favorite team, the Charlotte Hornets, yes, they need to play
LaMelo Ball 82 games, they need to play him 40 minutes a game because that's our best
chance at winning.
For the Celtics, Missoula Ball works.
They can plug and play a lot of those guys that they have on the bench and rest Tatum.
Rest Jalen Brown.
Rest Derrick White.
Drew Holliday, who's getting up there in age.
Kristos Porzingis, who's always injured.
They can afford to give those guys a break, whereas the Charlotte Hornets simply can't,
or other teams like that just can't.
The Celtics and these dynasties that we've seen in Golden State, they have the luxury
of resting their stars.

With that being said, let's break down this game from last night between the Celtics and
Nuggets.
And it starts off with, well, Kristos Porzingis is still the X-Factor.
I mean, coming off a down screen, hitting a fallaway jumper, and then the very next
possession being able to get into the pick and roll, roll down the lane, and dunk it.
It's a nice luxury to have a guy like that.
Now he's catching lobs from Tatum on the breaks, and they're in the dunker spot, and defensively
as well.
No sir, DeAndre Jordan.
Now, maybe prime DeAndre Jordan, that would have been a special once-in-a-lifetime poster,
but not that time.
And then just gobbling up anything in the paint as well.
He is the X-Factor for this team.
And now Horford, the other post, is still kicking.
He's 104 years old, still out there knocking down three balls.
And without Derek White last night, that is the lineup they went to, was the two-big lineup
with Porzingis and Horford around Tatum, Brown, and Drew Holliday, or excuse me, those three
around the two-big lineup.
Still knocking down threes.
I mean, what is he, 38 now?
And he can still catch and shoot.
He can still protect the rim a tad bit.
It's all been, mostly been zapped from him.
But without Derek White, this is a little bit of a different Celtics team.
We'll see them go with more two-big lineups.
He averages about 17.5 points a game, 4.5 boards, 4.5 assists, over a steal, and about
a block per game on 39% shooting from three on nine attempts.
Really, really good year for Derek White.
And if we're making comparisons here, he's the modern-day Klay Thompson on that Golden
State Warriors dynasty.
The guy that can just shoot from anywhere, and then will lock you up on the other side
of the ball.
Now, a guy that, in my opinion, should be in contention for the MVP.
He's gotten no love in terms of the MVP award this year, and that is Jason Tatum, right?
He definitely should be getting some looks this year.
He's a guy that is, in my opinion, this Celtics team is still the best team in the world.
He's the best player on that team, and he elevates them nightly.
Without Tatum, this is a completely different team because he does so much for them defensively,
offensively.
He plays as a point guard, sometimes as a facilitator, and then he's just a guy that
can get a bucket whenever he wants from whatever spot on the court he wants.
He's just a great slasher, but also a great passer, right?
He's becoming a better passer off of the drive and kick.
He's averaging 5.5 assists per game this year, 28 points per game, 9.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists,
and 36 minutes a night.
So once again, a great season.
36% from three on 10.2 attempts.
Somebody needs to remind him he's 6'9", 215, and to please get downhill and stop jacking
up threes, right?
Death, taxes, and Tatum's going to take the pull-up three over the big man.
It's alright.
He's only 19 years old.
He should be able to start to develop here sometime soon and get downhill.
But yeah, once again, give Tatum his flowers.
He's an MVP candidate this year.
People just aren't talking about it.
They still have the bench mob as well with guys like Peyton Pritchard, Luke Cornett,
Sam Hauser will hit a three every now and then coming in.
Boom, he's still well over 40% from downtown.
And then even Nemias Keita, from time to time, will get in there and get some buckets.
And you know, with Horford in the starting lineup, Keita and Cornett both played a little
bit more last night.
As for JB, he went a full four quarters without getting a single field goal, but I want to
see more of this.
I want to see more of him driving to the rim, attracting the entire defense, and then finding
somebody.
Right there, just dumps it off to Christophs.
Because this time, he finds Al Horford on the diagonal pass for the three ball.
I want to see more of that from Jalen Brown than just a pure score, right?
Yes, he's averaging 24 and 6, 4.7 assists.
I want to see about six assists a game this year.
He needs to be, in my opinion, him and Tatum, both about six assists a game.
To Derek White, to Drew Holiday, to Peyton Pritchard, Sam Hauser, all those shooters
they got.
And he's only shooting 33% from three.
So he needs to take even less threes in that shot volume of his.
As for Drew Holiday, still doing his thing, dumping it off right there.
This goes down as a Jalen Brown assist, but this was really all Sam Hauser, right?
That's just a tough bucket right there.
As for Drew, he's getting up there in age as well.
We talked about that in the beginning of the video, but he can still knock down the three
ball.
He's been shooting it much better as of late, and he can still really play defense.
Here's another three ball late in the game.
This was pretty much the dagger.
It was over at this point, but that was the dagger.
