Hey y'all, welcome to Alternative House channel. Today I'm in the Netherlands
and visiting Mieke and she has been living already for four years in here tiny house.
It's a tiny house with a glass house and in the spring I can really sit already early in my glass
house because when the sun is coming in yeah it's getting warm here. Also when it's freezing outside
it can be 20 degrees inside and then I open the door to my place and I have passive heating. So
that's really important in my place. I only have a heating for 1500
kilowatt so the the sun is really helping to warm up. And it's nice you're saving on the heating.
We save a lot and what is also interesting do you know that every hour when we are in a place
we warm 100 kilowatts with our body. When you're with a few people you don't need heating at all.
So you just need always 10 people inside and you have one kilowatt of heat.
In the community we are living here with 22 people but they are not always all together
in one place. And you have a big door it's like one meter ten something like that.
Yeah that's because then you have a lot of glass because of the light inside.
Nice let's have a look inside.
This is 31 square meters. I have two layers. One layer here is my my bench and I use it as a bed
in winter. Because in winter upstairs it's a little bit cold and it's more cozy in wintertime.
This is my place where I have my meals but it's also a place for studying and for my work. So
I use the table as a desk as well. Multifunctional like a permaculture. I'm addicted to books so
that's why there are a lot of books in the tiny house. They they say always yeah you need to have
less stuff in your house but still you can have something what you really like. It is the making
of choices. And how did you decide to move into tiny house? I didn't decide to move in a tiny
house. For me it was important in Libertara it's about redeveloping a farmyard. And when you want
ecological lower footprint you build as small as possible. And tiny houses are less than 50
square meters. So when you want to be really ecological friendly yeah it's great to build
tiny. And yeah what is really important in building tiny is to look how you place your stuff
and not to bring too much. This is also a second-hand kitchen. What we did here in this
place is we use very a lot of the ecological materials or materials what we recycle. So
this was in a showroom of a kitchen shop and now it's reused here. So it basically was new but
much cheaper. Much cheaper yeah yeah the only thing I'm not new was my my fridge because of the
electricity voltage use it's really important to have a new one because older one take a lot
of electricity. Right but you are off grid here or you're connected to the show? We are connected to
to electricity net and water net because that's a rule of the municipality. But we use as less as
possible. For the water we use a lot what's coming from the roofs we take for the garden.
And we have I only have a boiler of 30 liters. So when I have a shower I only can use this
amount or you can have cold showers of course that's also a possibility. Yeah yeah what's nice
is that this this stuff is from the house of my neighbors. They moved here and they sold their
old place and the next inhabitants didn't want this. So they said okay is somebody here in the
community who can reuse it. And so it has a new place. Nice and did you design the house yourself
or you just started the like pre-model? Yeah this house was already built for part of it and
the a friend of the Mind4Homes the builder they she started building and then she went abroad
and she couldn't use it herself and then she offered to get me. And so I had a basic but I
completed. This kind of houses we need to have the to use the same rules as normal houses. So
for the isolation we really need this thickness. Okay it's it's is it 20 centimeters? It's uh
it's about 20 centimeters. 30 centimeters. 30 okay. Yeah with the with the from from this to
this it's 30 centimeters. The inside dimensions are 3 to 10. The outside is 350 that's the maximum
what can be on a truck without police. Yeah. You can can do the transport and inside it's 290.
And it's a when you have a tiny house on wheels you have outside 250 and inside
you have only 190. And that's really feeling different. For me this is not feeling really
small. Yeah no. Because inside it's three meters and in a lot of places in Amsterdam you don't have
more. And the length? And the length the whole length is eight and a half. But it's also with
the bathroom. Yeah and it's ceilings are very high. This is uh uh 330 and I have two layers
and that other layer is 310. And uh some other houses have 385 because that's the maximum.
So you can pass for pilots in the Netherlands. Yeah not four meters 385? No no. Okay. 385. Okay.
Because uh otherwise you need really need to make it the way like that you have to think about okay
where can I pass and where I can't. Okay okay. Yeah. And uh there is a bathroom behind the door.
Yes all of us we do have compost toilets. So this is the compost toilet and uh I use here
materials what was from another place. Do you see what uh what kind of place this was?
Where this material was used before? On the floor. Yeah they were on the floor. In bowling yeah. Yeah
so we reuse these materials and uh it's not so ecological but we reuse it again. So it has a
new life again. Like here all this stuff it's from the same material as the outside. So what we didn't
use outside we could use uh for the inside. So and and that's also the floor. Some friends had
had a little piece and yeah I can reuse it here. Yeah and I love the sink. Yeah this is very nice
huh? Yeah. Yeah and this is bamboo. It's also not so uh yeah it's a natural material and it
was a leftover from another building site. So so it gets a new life.
Yeah a really cool idea. I like it with a bowling floor. Yeah yeah yeah. Yeah and it's very durable
because it's built for bowling floor. For bowling floor and what I didn't want to use here are tiles
because when you have to transport maybe it will be a little bit crack down. Yeah. Yeah nice and
a newer painting. No that are the paintings of my mom. Okay. And uh this is also multifunctional
when I want to go upside upstairs I have to replace them. Yeah. But uh this is my way to
to show more pictures because I don't have so much walls.
This is my office.
And uh the place where my cats are going to sleep when they are here for a visit. So it's
like a guest room. This is the guest room. But it's much warmer right now here than at the bottom.
Yeah yeah because the heat is is going up also. And yeah and what is really nice I don't use it
so much is that we have a kind of terrace here. Nice. We are here with only one hectare so I don't
need space because when you put this place in the city you have your own terrace and you can even
grow food here. So the snails will not be upstairs. Yeah. So easy. Yeah. Yeah it would be nice some
small garden. Yeah well now you have a wonderful view over the community and over there is the
seaside. Right. And that's the reason why it's always windy here. And this is a second office
office place. This is my second office place. Yeah yeah and uh often I have uh
internship people here. So then we have two places. One can work downstairs and one can work.
Okay what are you doing for a living? Do you have internship? Yeah yeah we have the Libertera
platform now and we help other projects to start a community. That's nice. Our specialization is
to help them with their negotiation with authorities. So about destination plans around
contracts and that kind of stuff. If you want to find more about this community I have made second
video when we talk about how they live here. Let me know if you would live in such a community as
and see you next time. Cheers!
