12 Herbs & Foods That Destroy Viruses That Have Infected Your Body
At the first sign of a cold or infection like a fever, a cough or mucus,
take 1 teaspoon of virgin coconut oil 3 times per day.
Virgin coconut oil is one of the most effective virus fighting foods in the world,
as it contains a unique ingredient called monolaurin.
Monolaurin destroys the fatty shell that surrounds viruses,
and this blocks the viruses from infecting your cells.
It's also a good idea to avoid using vegetable oils,
and start cooking with coconut oil to boost your immune system all year round.
2. Pineapple & Papaya
Many of the harmful viruses have little spikes on their outsides.
These spike proteins are designed to stick to your healthy cells,
so that the virus can hijack and take over your cells which is called an infection.
Now, pineapples and papaya fruits both contain proteolytic enzymes.
These are amazing because they naturally break down these harmful spike proteins
to block viruses from replicating.
These enzymes also help to thin and clear out mucus,
making it easier for your immune system to clear out any viruses trapped in your lungs.
Try eating a serving of fresh pineapple or papaya daily to boost your body's defences.
3. Chicken Bone Broth
Traditionally, chicken stew was one of the first things that was given to a sick child or adult.
This is because chicken bone broth is rich in amino acids that strengthen the immune system.
Proline from bone broth strengthens cell barriers, helping to stop viruses from infecting them.
It also has lysine, which blocks certain viruses from replicating
and spreading through the body, such as herpes.
While the glutamine it has strengthens your gut lining and lowers inflammation.
Try sipping on a warm cup of chicken bone broth daily when you're sick,
or otherwise to just keep your defences strong against infections.
4. Onion Juice
The liquid juice found inside onions contains a high amount of quercetin,
a very powerful antiviral agent.
Quercetin is very special because it helps your cells absorb zinc,
a mineral which blocks viruses from reproducing or replicating.
What's very interesting is that when you cook onions, more quercetin is released.
So I recommend adding some onions to your chicken bone broth, your stews or other warm broths.
The sulphur from onions also helps to thin and clear out mucus from the lungs, throat and sinuses.
5. Shellfish
There is a small gland in your chest called the thymus which makes white blood cells.
These are your immune cells which actively hunt down and destroy viruses to keep you healthy.
But to make this protective army, your thymus relies on a mineral called zinc.
Now shellfish like oysters, crab, mussels, lobster and clams are all rich in bioavailable zinc.
So eating a small portion of shellfish twice a week can strengthen your immune system and
the thymus gland, helping to protect your healthy cells from infections.
Shellfish also have iodine, selenium, omega 3s and B12 which are also important for your immune system.
6. Wild Oregano
Wild oregano is one of nature's most powerful natural herbs for fighting viruses.
This herb contains something called carvacrol,
a potent compound that breaks down the protective layer around viruses,
weakening them and stopping them from spreading.
The very best way to use this herb is by placing 1-2 drops of wild oregano oil
into a tall glass of water and then drink it once a day,
especially during cold or flu season or the winter.
For best results, look for oregano oil that contains
at least 70% carvacrol content for the antiviral benefits.
7. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
One of the most healing foods in existence is extra virgin olive oil,
which is made from cold pressed olives.
The problem is that many of the olive oils in supermarkets
actually have the label blend of european oils, which means that they're often fake
and they're made from cheap seed oils with just a dash of real olive oil.
However, real extra virgin european olive oil that comes from a single source
is rich in oleic acid.
This helps to dissolve the fatty envelope around viruses,
so that your immune system can destroy them.
Olive oil is also rich in Vitamin E and polyphenols,
which protect your healthy cells against oxidative damage.
This essentially makes them stronger and less likely to be hijacked
by the genetic material that's in viruses.
To enjoy these benefits, add 1-2 tablespoons of high quality olive oil to your salads,
or simply drizzle it over some cooked vegetables to boost your body's defences.
8. Raw Milk Kefir
Another excellent way to strengthen your body against viruses
is by drinking ½ cup of kefir daily.
Kefir, made from raw fermented milk, is packed full of probiotics
that will survive your stomach acid,
allowing them to reach and colonise your gut with friendly bacteria.
Since 70% of your immune system actually resides in your gut,
these friendly microbes support the immune cells,
creating a stronger barrier against infections.
Kefir also contains some calcium lactate,
which can help ease a dry cough that's caused by viruses or bacteria.
9. Bee Flipper Another way that your body resists viruses
is by making tears, saliva, mucus and skin oil,
which is designed to trap viruses and pathogens to prevent them from infecting your body.
However, to create these protective barriers,
your body needs retinol, the active form of Vitamin A.
Eating 3 oz of beef liver once a week can boost your retinol intake,
supporting these defences.
Unfortunately, the type of Vitamin A that's found in vegetables isn't very well absorbed,
so it's important to get the active form of Vitamin A from sources like meat, eggs and fish.
In addition, beef liver contains a lot of zinc and iron,
which are essential for a strong immune system.
10. Raw Garlic Now raw garlic is undoubtedly one of the
most powerful foods known to man to destroy viruses.
When you chop or you crush a fresh garlic clove,
it releases something called allicin.
This is a pungent sulphur compound that weakens the protein shells around viruses,
and this directly stops them from replicating and spreading through your body.
I recommend chewing on a clove of garlic once a day to keep your immune system strong in the winter.
But don't use pre-chopped garlic from the store, as the allicin will likely have broken down.
Using it fresh, raw and recently sliced is the best way to ensure that it works.
11. Green Tea Did you know that viruses are
everywhere in nature, and many of them aren't harmful?
In fact, some friendly viruses live in our body and are parts of our immune system.
Harmful viruses however, have specific proteins like spikes that allow them to
bind to human cells so that they can infect and spread rapidly through the body.
Now green tea contains EGCG, a compound that binds to these harmful viral proteins,
blocking them from attaching to human cells and infecting them.
Friendly viruses like bacteriophages are not affected by the green tea,
so it helps to keep your immune system balanced and healthy.
12. Sauerkraut What we haven't talked about is Vitamin C,
which is essential for destroying viruses and supporting a strong immune system.
Sadly, many of the Vitamin C rich fruits contain a lot of natural sugars,
which can compete with Vitamin C for absorption into your cells.
Sauerkraut however, a fermented cabbage, is packed full of Vitamin C but without the sugars,
making it an excellent immune booster. It's also rich in probiotics which support gut health
and work together with the Vitamin C to strengthen the immune cells in fighting off viruses.
And I'd also like to add mushrooms to this list.
Mushrooms are an excellent natural source of beta-glucans,
which activate immune cells like macrophages and natural killer cells.
This helps your immune system detect and destroy virus infected and abnormal cells,
including cancer cells. Studies show that mushrooms like shiitake, reishi and maitake
are highly effective in supporting the immune system.
Try adding mushrooms to your meals often,
especially if you're working to fight off any type of disease.
Why You Get Infected By Viruses
Viruses work by infecting your cells and turning them into copying machines,
so that they can replicate and spread to others.
Your immune system should be detecting and attacking these infected cells.
But if it's weakened, viruses can invade more easily and spread, making it much harder to
Most healthy people only catch about 1 or 2 colds per year, but if you find yourself
getting sick more often, your immune system may need a boost.
It could be that you're under a lot of mental stress which is weakening your immune system.
You may not be getting enough sunlight for your Vitamin D and melatonin boost.
Smoking and vaping can also weaken your immune system by depleting Vitamin C.
You could also simply be malnourished and you're not eating enough whole foods,
which leaves you lacking things like zinc and iron, which are needed for a strong immune system.
A lack of sleep can also impair your body's ability to recover from an illness,
and overusing antibiotics can damage your microbe balance,
particularly in the gut, making you more vulnerable to a viral attack.
Improving each of these areas of your lifestyle can help to build up your defences,
along with avoiding processed foods and replacing them with more fish,
meats, vegetables and berries.
Top supplements to boost the immune system
The best way to strengthen your body's defences against viruses
is by eating the nutritious foods that we've talked about today.
However, if you're feeling run down from years of stress or poor habits,
supplements can be used to give you an extra boost.
Firstly, taking 20,000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily, along with 200mcg of Vitamin K2
can help to maintain strong immunity through the winter months.
This dose is similar to getting 40 minutes of sun exposure on your skin,
and it supports the thymus gland in producing T-cells and B-cells which fight infections.
Vitamin D3 also helps to balance the immune system,
protecting against pathogens and reducing the risk of autoimmune issues.
Zinc and Trace Minerals
Zinc, selenium and iodine strengthen your cells to help resist viral infections,
with zinc being the most important for blocking viral replication.
A great way to get a good balance of these trace minerals
is by using a natural multivitamin like NutriGenesis by Performance Lab.
I take these every day to give my body a boost all year round,
and I'll put a link down below the video for your convenience.
Next we have Vitamin C
Most Vitamin C supplements contain only ascorbic acid,
which is around 5% of the true Vitamin C complex.
Acerola cherry powder however provides the full Vitamin C complex,
including flavonoids and cofactors for better absorption.
Take 1 teaspoon of acerola cherry powder daily, blended into smoothies or mixed with water
to boost your Vitamin C levels and strengthen your immune system.
Another excellent way to protect your body against viruses
is by taking 1 teaspoon of virgin cod liver oil daily.
This is rich in retinol and Vitamin D, both of which are essential for immune health.
You should really look for a high quality oil that doesn't contain
synthetic Vitamin A, called retinol palmitate as it's quite toxic.
I find that the Icelandic and Norwegian sources of this are the best quality.
And for stubborn infections, you may want to take 1000mg of quercetin per day.
As I mentioned before, quercetin helps zinc enter your cells,
directly blocking viruses from replicating and spreading.
Quercetin is also good for reducing histamines for those with allergies,
and it's good for your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Daily Drink Recipe
Some viruses cause a build-up of mucus, which makes it hard for you to sleep or breathe normally.
To help clear mucus and phlegm from your throat,
lungs and airways, I created a powerful natural 1 cup recipe.
If you'd like the recipe, watch the video that I've put on the screen now for more information.
