Well, it may be cold in the Northeast, but that's exactly where the housing market is
heating up, according to Zillow's predictions for the top five hottest markets in 2025.
Zillow puts Buffalo, New York at the top of the list for the second year in a row,
followed by Indianapolis, Indiana, Providence, Rhode Island, Hartford, Connecticut, and
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Zillow's outlook takes into consideration several factors such as
home value growth, the speed homes are selling, and job growth per new home permitted and expected
growth in owner-occupied households. Now, there was some potentially good news for buyers.
Home value appreciation is set to slow down in 2025 compared to 2021 and 2022. But according
to a new survey from Redfin, a third of current homeowners say they have no plans to ever sell
their home, and over a quarter say they won't consider selling for at least 10 years. That,
paired with high mortgage rates, mean potential buyers will still be facing a challenging market in 2025.
